I was getting 3 meals for a sit down lunch, only one with allergies. I ordered mine last, told them I have allergies to wheat, egg, and dairy, then ordered my double protein style with nothing but meat and lettuce (can't stand onions), and fries. The allergies were listed on the receipt, and the cashier yelled out, "Allergy order, coming back!" The other two, with their wheat buns, were on a tray. Mine was on a separate tray, fries included. I wasn't watching closely to see what all safety measures they took, but gloves were changed before they handled my food. I had no issues with bringing in my vegan cheese and my own ketchup (I don't trust people to not put it directly on a bun), and had absolutely NO allergic reaction. I go into anaphylaxis within 10 minutes of cross contamination, so it would be VERY obvious. Overall, very happy that I have a restaurant I can go to when out and about in Mesa.
They went above and beyond to ensure my celiac baby had his food prepared with caution. protein style got his burger wrapped in lettuce. They even bagged all of his food including his fries separately. Most places make me feel like a crazy parent when I ask questions and remind them of how important it is that his food has no contact with the rest.... they didnt at all. The cashier was very friendly and reassured me that they were taking great caution with his food... she even walked back to ensure they were doing his away from the rest as he is also dairy allergic.
Everything is gluten free except the bread. Even the shakes are gluten free. And since nothing but fries are cooked in the fryer, the fries are totally gluten free! this is the case at all locations
I got a double- double and fries. I told them I had an allergy and to change their gloves. They made a note. I also asked for no grilled onions and sauce packets on the side to avoid CC. It was delicious, and I did not get sick. It was my first time trying, I think like any fast food joint it’s all dependent on the staff at the location.
As all In N Out locations I have been to, I have never gotten sick at this one in Escondido and the people working there are always very careful and considerate. I feel as safe as anyone can in a non-dedicated dacility. We often even go here over our local dedicated GF location because the burgers and fries are better and cheaper (and we don't eat burgers and fries for health..). Just make sure to order each item with "allergy to gluten". For the burger, the only GF alternative is "protein style" which means lettuce instead of a bun. If you specify gluten allergy they prepare it in a separate area with clean gloves etc.
