no GF buns, but they confirmed the fries and shakes were gluten-free and bent over backwards trying to find something I could eat with corn allergies (and beef and onion allergies too... I'm real fun at parties). My GF / likely some celiac kids were able to eat a full meal (lettuce wraps burgers, fries, shakes) and I got fries with no salt with a side of lettuce and a side of tomato. That may not sound impressive to you, but it's such a relief to eat safe fast food at all and share a "traditional" American meal with my family in any form. They flagged the food as needing gluten care, verified ingredients, and were incredibly patient with celiac plus.
Order "protein style" to get it wrapped in lettuce
This place is celiac friendly is because Long as you tell them you have an allergy it safe to eat :)
This is one of the better in and outs in town. They’re really good about cross contamination and make sure they keep everything separated.
You can get the burger on lettuce. This was the most depressing thing I’ve eaten in years. No flavor, slimy, made me feel like my intolerance leaves me a shell of a woman. Go to Culver’s if you want a gf burger on a gf bun. At least it has substance there.
Never been sick here. I order a burger protein style and cheese fries (I stopped ordering animal fries because I heard their sautéd onions and spread that isn’t is packets could be contaminated with gluten). All you need to do is tell the staff you have celiac or a gluten allergy and they will change their gloves and let the staff know.
This is a busy location but they take allergy concerns seriously. Let the cashier know you an allergy order and they prepare your order separately and change gloves and mark it clearly on the receipt. I've eaten here twice since my celiac diagnosis and have not had a reaction. Everything on the menu except the buns are GF, so order your burger protein-style (lettuce-wrapped), but I would recommend ordering without onions and with sauce on the side (they'll give you packets of the special sauce) just to avoid cross-contamination because onions are flipped with buns and sauce could come from a shared container). I love ordering cheesy fries via the secret menu! Fries are from a dedicated fryer.
My celiac daughter and I have been safe eating here BUT we learned that the sauce (even on allergy burgers) can be used from the same container. Now we order ours protein style allergy to gluten NO sauce and ask for sauce packets at pick up. We have not been sick from cross contamination since.
Recently celiac diagnosed this is my go to when I need to go out to eat! Protein style burger be sure to tell them you have a gluten allergy and they change gloves and clean surfaces. And fries are safe because they are the only thing they cook in there.
I eat here often and I have never had an issue. I always tell them gluten allergy. That's all I have to say and they will take care of it. They even bag mine separate from the rest of my family's without me requesting it.
Service here was terrible. I have never seen an in n out so crazy slow with a line, even on a weekend. There were only 15 cars, which isnt that much for night time at in n outside. However, it took over 30 min to get to the window to get our food. Worse, when we get there they ask us to pull forward and wait for our order. I refused. Told them i had been waiting in line over 30 min since I ordered and it should be ready when all they have to do is wrap it in lettuce. Manager came and confessed they had messed up the order somehow. Very frustrating. It's not that hard to do, and it wasnt that busy (empty inside). Food tasted meh too once it finally came. This manager definitely needs help with her cooks.
Went for a late night snack, after seeing the good reviews. Was a little nervous as I saw the burgers and regular buns on the same flat top. I was assured that they take 'allergies' seriously and clean the grill, use new utensils, and change gloves. Sad there was no gf bun but the fries are also gf so thats a bonus.
Have eaten here several times over past year. Order “protein style” which is without bun. I use ketchup packets to avoid common dispenser. I take my own gf udi bun. Fries are cut fresh on premises and fried in dedicated fryer (no breaded items fried in them). Have had no issues. Staff friendly, well trained and hard working.
stopped here on a xmas road trip - asked for burger and asked them to mark it for “allergy” - the cashier yelled it back to the crew and one of the crew looked back and rolled her eyes and the cashier laughed. I didn’t feel safe and felt sick for the rest of my trip - could’ve been other places though.
They are amazing about CC; haven’t gotten sick here before!! Thank goodness. Order the burger “protein style” and the animal fries with OUT grilled onions as they could CC you.
I have celiac and eat at In N Out all the time! I’ve eaten at many different locations, including this one a few times. It doesn’t ever make me sick. I make sure and say i have a gluten allergy, order protein style hamburger with sauce separate and my fries come on my tray away from other burgers with buns. Love the simple yummy food and atmosphere!
I asked if the person handling fries only did that versus handling bread, etc. The cashier immediately asked if it was for a gluten allergy and noted that in the order. My daughter didn't do a burger but did enjoy the fries and milkshake. I would think they'd handle the burger served protein style. I didn't note celiac friendly only because we didn't test the burgers.
We have eaten there many times. Never got sick. Always ordered: protein style and asked them to “flag” the order gluten allergy. I did have to remind them to make sure to bag separate from anything else. However, they always have shown an effort to make sure it is right.
I have had nothing short of excellent service and food at In-N-Out. They have always asked the severity of my gluten issues upon ordering and every time assured me they used fresh gloves and a GF fryer. Protein style hamburger, no sauce, GF fries. Never had an issue.
Staff is knowledgeable about gluten allergies, and will bag food separately if allergy is noted at ordering. We orders burgers “protein style” (lettuce wrapped). All sides are gluten free. In-N-Out is always fresh, always clean. The location on Foothill has gotten our orders wrong several times, but to be fair, it’s all complicated ordering.
I never have a problem they always put a gluten allergy on the ticket wrap the burgers protein style. If you order animal style fries you have to ask for no grilled onions one of the staff members told me they use the same spatula for the hamburger buns to grab the onions.
I have eaten here several times and I have never had a gluten exposure. As far as I know and what has been explained to me is allergy burgers are made on a separate grill, usually not in use and clean. I watch them like a hawk when I order food because I’m usually ordering with non-allergy burgers and this has always been my experience. I am really sensitive and this is one of the few places I feel safe dining at. Dedicated fryer for gluten free fries is a nice added bonus.
I’m a sensitive celiac and have eaten at this location over a dozen times. I ask them to mark gluten allergy on both the burger and fries so that they know to be extra careful. The manager has also offered to always ask for her and she’ll make it specifically for you. I feel safe having any staff member here make it though, based on my experience.
2/17/19: Found out today by the assistant manager that there is no separate pan/tray that they cook the meat inside on top of the grill - they have a separate/clean prep area to assemble the lettuce wrapped burger. So the information that somebody gave us 4 months ago was not accurate. They try to use the second grill which isn’t used very often and clean it off extra for allergy burgers (and I believe there is a side of the grill that doesn’t have any buns on it). That being said, we’ve never gotten sick eating here and we’re super sensitive. October ‘18 - they actually now have a special pan/tray to cook the burgers in on top of the grill to avoid cross contamination. They have it at the Topsy location and in Sparks. Haven’t been to the s. Virginia location in a while so don’t know. Super happy about this! Fast and delicious! Dedicated fryer for fries! We always ask for the manager and explain our allergies so they follow their allergen protocol and get it right. Make sure your allergies appear on the receipt too. They do not have gluten free buns but they do protein style (lettuce wrap). We've never gotten sick and we're super-sensitive. We've been eating here gf for about 8 years.
The staff was so conscientious and helpful, and I felt really reassured and confident about their allergy practices. I Nima tested the fries, spread and protein cheese burger, and all came back gluten free. I’m so happy I don’t have to give up yummy In-N-Out for celiac!
