I had one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever eaten at this lovely restaurant overlooking the harbor. The waitress was familiar enough with food allergens that when I informed her that I’m a celiac, she was able to clearly communicate my needs to the kitchen. Had I only mentioned gluten-sensitivity, though, as opposed to celiac disease, they would have toasted my GF bun in a non-dedicated toaster and served me fries from a non-dedicated fryer. But after I alerted the waitress to issues of cross-contamination, the chef toasted the GF bun on foil in the oven, and he replaced all the oil in the fryer. (Side note: Had I known in advance that he was going to replace the oil, I’d have saved him the trouble by substituting a side salad for the fries. But they were delicious.) Bottom line: The staff at Stars will go out of their way to prepare your meals however you request them. I consider it a safe place for celiacs as long as you remember to press for details when ordering.
