Review

The presence of Jake’s in Nantasket Beach influenced our decision to vacation at the Nantasket Beach Resort because the reviews were so good, especially regarding the obvious sensitivity of Jake’s to providing gluten-free options (including its fried seafood). And Jake’s did not disappoint. We ordered take out the first night in town there to dine in three additional times during our week stay. It was that good. The location on the bay was picturesque, the staff was exceptionally friendly, and the food was expertly prepared. Jake’s batter for fried seafood is delicious in itself, but the kitchen staff clearly don’t take for granted that they could just bread seafood and throw it in the fryer. They clearly attend to the fried dishes while they’re cooking, serving them at the peak of preparedness. The fried shrimp, for example, were crunchy on the outside, thoroughly cooked but still crisply fresh on the inside. The fried clams, likewise, were excellent. But I was even more impressed with the kitchen’s ability to prepare non-fried fish, including a broiled local bluefish special with a delightfully tart house Dijon sauce and a grilled striped bass special with house bourbon sauce—both cooked absolutely perfectly. We are sure to make a point of coming back to Jake’s whenever we’re in the area again.
