Review of Jewel's Bakery & Cafe

Taken my celiac son here 3 times in the past 6 months. Two out of three times he was glutened. Staff has been rude and service slow every time we eat here. Food was bland unless you want it spicy. Personally, I like good, tasty food that doesn’t require five-alarm chili peppers. Lots of great options in the neighborhood that have better service, better food, and reliably gluten-free. Won’t be back to Jewels, ever.

Edited to add: Talked to a friend who is celiac that has also been glutened there. Very disappointing.

Edited to add: reading other reviews, I think the abundant use of oat flour is the source of the gluten exposure. Studies are showing there really is no such thing as truly GF oats due to cc in processing. Certified GF only means there’s less than 20 ppm, not zero. So even if they are using certified GF oat flour, that does not mean there’s zero gluten. Celiacs beware!
