So happy to have a safe cheesesteak place to eat at while in fishtown! Went there after reading reviews on FMGF, and I was not disappointed at all. Make sure you tell them you are having a GF roll due to an allergy, and the staff will clean the prep area and change gloves. My cheesesteak was amazing! Fries are fried in a separate fryer and the old bay fries were incredible! Unsure if the cheese wiz is GF since I wasn’t interested in having any. They also have a pickle bar and I had no issues eating any of the food. I 100% recommend and I hope to be back!
The best GF sandwich I have had to date! So delicious. Bread did not fall apart and was soooo goood. I hate that I live so far away, but it’s probably a good thing because I’d probably be here every day! I highly recommend. I got a buff chicken cheeese steak on a gf large roll and crab fries. 10/10. Scarfed it down so quickly. It was so good I questioned if it was gf but my mom got the non-gf bread and you could tell the difference. Go get yours!!!
As a follow up to the comment below Joe’s did source another gluten free roll and it was very good. Joe's has the BEST gluten free cheesesteaks. I get Joe's all the time and they are delicious! I have Celiac and there is always a risk of cross contamination where we assume that risk but I have not gotten sick after many visits. I do believe they take the prep seriously. DoorDash is pretty quick if you don’t want to go to the shop. You can also order gluten free french fries. Big thanks to Joe's for having these delicious Gluten Free Cheesesteaks!!
Unfortunately on asking after their gluten free buns the server told me that their supplier shut down without warning. So had my cheesesteak on a bed of lettuce and tomato, not awful but not what I came for. Didn’t ask about separate frier but there was an option for cheesesteak topped fries.
GF rolls were the best I’ve ever had. They take precautions against cross-contamination and even have a dedicated fryer. I never thought I’d be able to have cheesesteaks again so I was thrilled! Definitely stop in if you’re in Philly or driving through. I’m super sensitive celiac and had zero issues and staff was very knowledgeable!
I never thought I’d have a Philly cheesesteak after being diagnosed with Celiac but this place was incredible!! I got the chicken cheesesteak and fries and my server asked me all the right questions to make sure my meal was safe. I felt very comfortable eating here and will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town
Ate here and had the gf cheesesteak and fries. The meat and cheese were sort of bland and the bun was just ok. The staff and service was great though. Also, didn’t get sick from it with but the sandwich was just ok, the fries were really good. There are better in Philly.
We went after seeing good reviews on this app. We got Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, pizza fries, and a mint chocolate chip shake. They even have a dedicated frier. Everything was delicious and safe for me, a very sensitive celiac. That being said, there is some risk for cross contamination because it is a smaller kitchen serving mostly sandwiches. We would go back!
Dedicated fryer. They ran out of the gluten-free bun by the time I came, but they confirmed they do keep it separate and don’t toast it with gluten etc. Offered me fries from the dedicated fryer instead. Bonus is they have vegan cheese bc I also have a dairy allergy :/
VERY FRIENDLY when I went in! No eye rolling kind of attitude but rather the sever went out of her way to make sure I felt comfortable with the food.
So good! I definitely recommend this place especially if you’re going with friends or friends with allergies. The cheesesteak is amazing and the menu has all the classic Philly food on it. They have vegan/vegetarian cheesesteak too. The gf bread could be better.. that’s my only quarry.
I finally found an awesome gluten-free cheesesteak. Thank you Joe's Steaks
I was visiting Philly and first came here with friends around dinner time. It was crazy busy and there’s only one cooking area, so I didn’t get anything. Instead I showed up right before they opened the next day so I could get the first cheesesteak they made. The staff member who brought out my GF bread was careful and placed it high in the cooking area so nothing would fall on it. However, even though I specified I had an allergy, there was another staff member flipping bread on a grill top with his hands, and he went to package my sandwich without changing gloves. I stopped him and clarified it was because I didn’t want to get sick. The staff wasn’t super responsive, but since I was watching them (they cook right in front of you) I was able to make sure I was safe. They made my friend’s (non GF) cheesesteak right after mine, and the cook sent breadcrumbs all over the pile of steak cooking. Definitely not cross-contamination safe for celiacs, unless you’re willing to go first thing.
Staff was amazing; super nice and friendly. GF bun was dense and tasteless but you take what you can get with celiac you know? Non-gf rolls were too soft and soaked up whatever was on the roll and became mushy and the meat was okay at best. Soda was amazing, old bay fries were amazing. Didn’t try the shakes but they look amazing. Sadly the Only reason I’d go back would be for everything BUT the sandwiches.
Do not go here if you have Celiacs. I went there and they assured me they would take precautions. I could see into the kitchen and the guy handling the bread also touched the cheese that was going on my cheesesteak. He then touched a regular sandwich and then picked up mine with the same gloves. I was fortunate and saw this happen so didn’t eat it. They took off $4 (did not refund us), but since the gf sandwich was up charged $2 it was only like we got $2 off for something I couldn’t even eat.
All the staff were very knowledgeable and accommodating to me. I have never tried a cheese steak in my life, so it was a very exciting moment for me, and it did not disappoint!
My boyfriend is a celiac and we go here often! Their chicken cheesesteak with american cheese is amazing. The bread is homemade(or it tastes so at least!!). They have a small and a large size roll option. Their fries are gluten free too!!!! YUM
Not celiac friendly. They can't say they never fry chicken tenders in the same fryer as the fries. I specifically asked for them to change gloves and the cook did- after he put new meat on the grill with the same gloves he handled regular rolls. The regular rolls are grilled on the same cooktop and then placed where the meat and onions are to get the meat and onions on the roll. My very sensitive celiac daughter did NOT even eat her cheese steak. $12.69 later and I'm eating a mediocre cheesesteak. I'm partial to Jim's on South street. Joe's cheesesteak had less flavor - not counting the GF roll, which isn't that good either.
They made our fries in a separate fryer. Made sure to be aware of the gluten free bun. Very friendly and great service. GF Bun was tasty!
Amazing authentic Philly Cheesesteak on a delicious gluten free roll! 😋
Got carry-out for a birthday gathering. Three people in group had celiac. Everyone enjoyed their cheese steaks and fries. The people with celiac really enjoyed the roll. Staff member on the phone was helpful; took time to get our questions answered. Loved the pizza fries and the Old Bay fires. The (plain) fries need ketchup or some seasoning. The "Small" sandwich was pretty big and had a lot of meat (I recommend this size)
They have really good food for a good price. fries are gf. I was quite disappointed with the person from the waitstaff who was quite snappy with us when we asked about gluten free (since it's on the menu), saying that they just had a gf roll, and then just said curtly that they couldn't tell us if any of the meat had gluten in it. Made zero effort to answer those questions and seemed put off that we were asking. I try to do good research before going to a new place--from what I had read i was not expecting that. :/ Maybe they were having a bad day, but that was our experience. Anyways, I could see the cook change her gloves, and there was no issue with the food at all, which, as I said, was quite good.
