I unfortunately got glutened here. I think there is just too many spots for cross-contact because they work with their hands and shared surfaces. The nigiri tasted great but the rolls were just okay.
The waiter was very impatient with us and cut us off mid sentence while explaining our gluten allergy and needs. He’s probably tired of hearing it 😅. He put his hands on my partner to stop him and just said we know gluten free it will be gluten free. I then felt uncomfortable to say anything else. It seems like other people had better and safer experience though!
Had an ok experience here. They have a gf menu and gave me gf soy sauce. I asked them to clean the kitchen before making my order, and they did. But it was the kind of kitchen where a lot of cross contact could easily happen since they use their hands for much of the ingredients. That being said my sushi was prepared on a different station to where the tempura was being prepped. I don’t think I got glutened but I’m not fully comfortable with this place. Overall the taste was ok, it was cool having real crab in the sushi but the rolls were kind of messily made.
Outstanding food but less than 100% celiac safety. Specifically they make all the rolls on the same cutting boards, including the tempura and soy sauce eel. I asked them to make my seaweed salad over since it was done on the same surface as the tempura station. I only saw this because I happened to be at the bar.
Really delicious but I won’t go back. Too bad.
So many options for gluten free! Seaweed salad and rolls are great and fresh!! Notified them about gluten free allergy and they had a separate gf menu and set out gluten free soy sauce. Very attentive to detail and service was amazing!
Ate here with a friend and got the chef's sashimi tasting and a couple rolls. Sashimi was delicous and presented in a very cool way. Everything was good. The majority of the things on their menu are gf and they use tamari instead of soy sauce.
However I don't think the rice beer is gluten free. It tastes like malt and I did some research and I am pretty sure it is not GF.
Extremely disappointed. Terrible customer service at this restaurant. My family and I were excited to try this celiac friendly restaurant. We called ahead for a rough estimate on the wait time and were told 20 to 30 min for a party of 4. The problem was they only have a couple of tables for 4. The rest for 2. After an hour of waiting and having 6 couples getting seated before us I asked the waiter and he was completely rude and unhelpful. We ended up leaving the restaurant! Will never go back.
Amazing sushi! Great atmosphere, newly renovated. We ate at the bar (recommend), and had a server take our order. They have a rice beer that tastes like a pilsner (gluten free), and a huge sake solution. They use very fresh ingredients, so there are very few "filler" ingredients. (Ex: real crab instead of imitation crab, fresh sticky rice made from high quality grain rice, etc). They even offer GF soy sauce upon request. There is no separate GF menu. Most of the rolls are GF, BUT you should directly ask the cooks behind the counter who are most knowledgeable - one cook told me that the majority of their food is GF, but the server didn't realize one specialty roll that we ordered included gluten and gave it to me by accident! So just be sure to ask the cooks directly. They know exactly what's what. I would absolutely return here (best sushi I've had) and would just talk directly with the cooks before ordering.
Kuma is a gluten free paradise! The chef prefers the taste of tamari over soy sauce, so the vast majority of the sauces are gluten free. They are very knowledgeable about the ingredients and I felt quite safe to eat here (unfortunately, this is a rare feeling in sushi joints). I was able to do the 8 piece chefs choice and they seasoned each piece uniquely and GF. The waiter marked up a menu for me with all the gluten free offerings as well. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're a fan of sushi because the sushi was on par with Saru and some of my other favorites.
