We stayed at the Fairmont at Lake Louise and ate the Fairview our first night. I wanted to give the Lake View Lounge a shot as it had outside seating. When making reservations, or seating, the host does ask if anyone in the party has allergies. I told them that I have Celiac disease and am very sensitive to cross contamination. The server was aware and made gluten free recommendations, though not all of them are marked on the menu and they do not have a dedicated fryer. I ordered the tomato soup as or was completely gluten free, and it came out with a gluten cracker. I informed the server that brought it, and they took it back to the kitchen and brought me the same bowl and plate of soup, but without the cracker. I pointed out the cracker crumbs to the server who took our order and they took it back and brought me a completely new bowl, plate, spoon and napkin.

I have mixed feelings about Lakeview Lounge. I was initially impressed: the host asks for allergies before seating you, and flags them in the computer for the rest of the staff. My server was also knowledgeable, and explained the protocols they take with the kitchen for celiac orders. But they do NOT have a dedicated GF fryer, so things like fries and chips are not safe. They do have a GF bun option for their burger, though the menu doesn't mention it. As a result, GF options were very limited, at least at lunch: olives, a couple salads, and a burger. Strangely, only the olives are marked with a "GF" on the menu, even though some of the salads are GF as well. Also when the olives came out--despite an extensive conversation with my server about celiac--there was a gluten cracker stuck in them. When I brought it to my server's attention by asking if it was GF, he apologized that it was not and offered to bring out another bowl of olives.

The Lakeview Lounge restaurant has a dedicated GF deep fryer! My daughter ordered a GF Chicken and Cheese Sandwich off the kids menu and it came with in-house made deep fried potato chips (!! - that’s when I asked about the deep fryer) and it was huge for a kids sandwich.

We had dinner here while at the Fairmont, and it was amazing! The salmon I had was cooked perfectly and the server was very thorough in determining what was and was not GF, and any substitutions that could be made.

The menu doesn't list gluten-free items yet but the waiter will let you know what is gluten-free and what can be made gluten-free. All their sandwiches and burgers can be made gluten-free with their gluten-free buns and bread. They also have gluten-free crackers. We ordered the Dal Makhani which is a traditional Indian family recipe made of spiced been in lentil stew coriander leaves with gluten free bread instead of the naan. It was very good!We also ordered the Canadian Cheese Slate which has three cheeses, fig spread, house made jam, pickles, nuts and instead of a baguette they gave us gluten free crackers. Perfect for sharing.
