This place was cute and everything was gluten free! I didn’t particularly like the ginger cookie or the brownie. They were both a 6/10. I also got the patty melt, which was good but could have been seasoned more. The gluten-free bread was good when toasted. The special sauce they used was yummy but the beef could’ve been more seasoned. I would give it a 7/10.
Delicious food. I love the fried chicken sandwich the most. Definitely worth a visit
Came to Houston for a wedding weekend and ate here 3 time. Everything was GF!! The bread was my favorite and all made from scratch. Would recommend the French toast or rotisserie chicken sandwich. Was disappointed in the cinnamon roll, but my husband got the carrot tea cake and that was good.
Fantastic little place that is not only dedicated gluten-free, but absolutely delicious. One of the best GF chocolate chip cookies I've had in quite a while, and a breakfast burrito that absolutely nailed the texture & flavor departments. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff to boot. It is worth going out of the way for, and I will certainly go here again whenever I am back in town.
Just one note: As of the time of this writing (8/25), the hours listed on the FMGF app are incorrect; the café is open until 9 PM every day.
Great experience! Cute cafe with some nice menu options and a peaceful environment. I ordered the avocado toast and it was delish! The bread tasted hearty and wonderful, and the taste and texture were far superior to what can be purchased from a grocery store. I’m already craving my next visit to try other menu items, and this time I plan to buy a loaf of bread to take home!
Got the Cowboy cookie and to be completely honest it was really disappointing. Tastes exactly like a store bought cookie. Nothing special at all costs as much as an entire box of store boxed cookies as well. Would not suggest the cookies, but will probably try again in the future but not the baked items.
This place is AmAzInG!!! 100% gluten free! The fried chicken sandwich was incredible! (next time I will ask for the coleslaw on the side, rather than on the sandwich…). I will definitely be making another trip here this week (in Houston for a conference) to try some other item (including the cowboy cookie, that looks yummy!). Clean and a cute setup for dining in.
What I like about this bakery and coffee shop: 1. It is CERTIFIED gluten-free. This is so important to me because it gives me peace of mind when eating out. It means their staff has been trained on how to avoid cross-contact with gluten and deliver safe food for celiacs and people with nonceliac sensitivity to gluten. 2. The food tastes amazing! I had the fried chicken sandwich (Oh, my!) and my husband ate a patty melt. We bought some chocolate cookies, a blueberry brownie, and a slice of cheesecake to go. All these pastries were delicious. 2. Customer service: the staff was very nice and welcoming. You can tell they care about you feeling well served. 3. Ambiance: a good place to have a chat with friends, read, relax, or take your laptop and do some work. The music is not too loud, which makes the experience more enjoyable. The tables were clean and tidy. 4. Natural juices! The lemonade I had was out of this world. Yes, that is possible! 5. Prices: compared to other dedicated GF restaurants I have been to, Leven’s prices are fair and very down to earth, which I appreciate. And again, quality and taste are there, so you won't regret what you paid for. This dedicated and certified gluten-free place in Houston is a must when you're craving desserts, good coffee, sandwiches, a chill place to spend your afternoon, brunch, and more. Suggestion: Add some fries to the sandwiches, please!
Dedicated GF bakery and cafe. This place is amazing: everything you see is GLUTEN-FREE! Their bread is the best GF bread we’ve ever had - can’t really tell it’s GF. We always go there to buy bread and buns to stock up the house. My daughter loves the French toast and my favorite is the breakfast egg sandwich. Their coffee is great too with professional barista. Ditch Starbucks and get your coffee here!
I had the patty melt and a piece of streusel coffee cake. Delicious and dedicated gluten free. On subsequent visits I’ve had the chicken sandwich and have ordered bread and cookies to go on several occasions. Very good sourdough and pan de mie, but they also carry burger buns, even pumpernickel. Great service and so good!
Sourdough bread is good. Nice to have an all gf bakery/ cafe in the area. Cookies are good and there is a lot of variety in foods
LOVE this place! Everything is very tasty and totally safe. No wheat flour in the facility, so no potential for cross contamination.
The only thing I wish is that they would have even more desserts without oat flour. I react to oats and I know a lot of people do, so that would be an added bonus to be able to eat things like the cinnamon rolls too.
Wow. This place is unmatched in food, drinks, service, and ambiance. We just kept ordering more and more. So refreshing finding a place that offers gluten free nourishing ingredients. We will absolutely be back. The chef came and spoke with us and was so knowledgeable and kind. THANK YOU LEVEN!
I saw great reviews for this bakery but sadly was disappointed. I tried three different desserts. The cowboy cookie was decent. The chocolate espresso cake was insanely dry. It tasted a couple of days old. The cinnamon roll as well was off. It was far more dense than a cinnamon roll should be and the taste, especially the icing, was pretty bland. I threw the cake and cinnamon roll out as they certainly weren't worth the calories. $15 for three desserts where only one was eatable left a bad taste in my mouth. Pun intended.
Amazing food. Everything we had was super tasty. We sat down for brunch and bought carry out dinner !
I had a rotisserie chicken sandwich and a piece of coffee streusel.
The sandwich came on grilled bread. It had a layer each of chicken salad, caramelized onions, and slaw. No sides. With a little salt it was very tasty.
The streusel was warmed slightly at my server's suggestion. It was good, but not something I would want to get again. A dry cake, open crumb, and slightly odd mouth feel. A bit greasy is the only way to describe it.
The place is open and clean and encourages sitting over a mug of coffee with a book
Best gluten free bakery in Texas. Maybe the US. Please do yourself the favor and try it out.
Pros: ambiance, local, taste of food items, their delivery options on their website, their fresh juice assortment from their partnership business Sustain down the street, and they are extremely friendly.
Cons: missed real cow milk and sugar in my coffee, but that's on my end something I want to change- .
I've been on a gluten free diet since 2013. I initially did it as an elimination diet and realized I felt great without gluten. I've lived and traveled to different countries and states in the US. I've gone to A LOT of gluten free bakeries in every location I've visited. At the store I buy Udi's gluten free bread which is good for everyday sandwiches, but nothing beats fresh bread. I've been dreaming of a Houston gluten free bakery like this one for years. I eat organically and cook a lot at home, but my bread selections are limited to supermarket buys. My daughter is a celiac so I was so excited when Leven opened.
Their pumpernickel and pain de mie loaves are extremely tasty. I love their oatmeal raisin cookies and cowboy cookies.
I tried their coffee and they had milk alternatives that five years ago I would have been into but these days I enjoy the real thing. It's a great shop and I'll continue to occasionally drink their coffee but I did miss my milk.
Great new dedicated gluten free cafe with Wi-Fi. Worth the drive if coming from outside the inner loop. This place has baked goods to take home and a nice sit down cafe/coffee shop ambiance to have a casual meet up with friends. Highly recommend this place.
Cappuccino and rotisserie sandwich ordered…
