Big Miss for Mai restaurant … the first 2 times I thought it was a fluke and tried to figure out what else did I eat but giving them a third chance just recently and getting sick again is a big disappointment. I know there is a problem somewhere as I have not eaten anything else these last few days that could trigger me .
To give you a bit of a context; Mai presents certain meals on their menu as gluten-free and when you go in the restaurant and question it they tell us that they are really good at stopping any cross-contamination from happening, especially in items like their pho soup for example, which have rice noodle chicken broth, chicken and vegetables therefore very simple. They even have on their online menu the notion of “do you need it to be gluten free “ so in my case I checked off yes , I even put in the notes like I do every time “please be extremely careful I am celiac”.
I’ve been going there for years with zero issues up until this year. I’ve gone three times and all three times I have had extreme gluten attacks and another one again in the past 48 hrs. I’m talking nausea crazy stomach pain rolled in a ball, women, it’s worse than getting your periods and the heat pad or pain killers does not help . It can take 3 to 4 days and sometimes a week for the Gluten to get out of your body and the attacks to subside and be manageable.
So with that being said, I feel like either they’ve had a change of staff, and the new staff does not care about the cross contamination therefore they are not as careful as they were before or they are slacking and do not care if there is cross-contamination or not . If you are going to present your menu as Gluten free please make sure that it is as such otherwise you’re just lying to us and we will get sick.
I am extremely disappointed because I was really happy to have a place that I can go that provided a good pho soup option when I was feeling sick and that I could eat safely but now I cannot trust this restaurant to be safe for me or fellow celiac’s.

Great atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. They were able to accommodate GF, dairy free, egg free and seafood allergy. Wait staff doubled check with the kitchen and came back with the safest option. The food was amazing. Will definitely eat here again. If you are only GF, they have a ton of options.

Ordered lunch for take out at Mai Thai as I had read good reviews about that restaurant. First of all, I was really happy to see dietary information clearly listed with icons on the menu. When I ordered over the phone, I made it clear it should be Gluten & Dairy free. They seemed knowledgeable about that. When my meal arrived with other orders, it clearly stated GF&DF on the cover so I would not mix it with someone else meal. I had the Pad Thaï Noodles with shrimps and it was delicious! 😋

I’d I don’t have time to research menus before I go out to eat, Mai will always be my go-to. They have many gluten free options that all taste delicious. My favourite by far is the pad Thai. They always ask if I have a severe allergy or if I simply prefer gluten free.

I have eaten here many times and I've never had a reaction. I tell them every time that I'm celiac. Many dishes are GF or can be slightly modified to be gluten free. Just make sure you are clear about your condition.
