Big Miss for Mai restaurant … the first 2 times I thought it was a fluke and tried to figure out what else did I eat but giving them a third chance just recently and getting sick again is a big disappointment. I know there is a problem somewhere as I have not eaten anything else these last few days that could trigger me .

To give you a bit of a context; Mai presents certain meals on their menu as gluten-free and when you go in the restaurant and question it they tell us that they are really good at stopping any cross-contamination from happening, especially in items like their pho soup for example, which have rice noodle chicken broth, chicken and vegetables therefore very simple. They even have on their online menu the notion of “do you need it to be gluten free “ so in my case I checked off yes , I even put in the notes like I do every time “please be extremely careful I am celiac”.

I’ve been going there for years with zero issues up until this year. I’ve gone three times and all three times I have had extreme gluten attacks and another one again in the past 48 hrs. I’m talking nausea crazy stomach pain rolled in a ball, women, it’s worse than getting your periods and the heat pad or pain killers does not help . It can take 3 to 4 days and sometimes a week for the Gluten to get out of your body and the attacks to subside and be manageable.

So with that being said, I feel like either they’ve had a change of staff, and the new staff does not care about the cross contamination therefore they are not as careful as they were before or they are slacking and do not care if there is cross-contamination or not . If you are going to present your menu as Gluten free please make sure that it is as such otherwise you’re just lying to us and we will get sick.

I am extremely disappointed because I was really happy to have a place that I can go that provided a good pho soup option when I was feeling sick and that I could eat safely but now I cannot trust this restaurant to be safe for me or fellow celiac’s.
