I have celiac, and I work at Mamahuhu. The Mamahuhu on Clement (not the other locations) has all the necessary equipment, space, and a dedicated gluten free fryer to be safe for celiacs. We have a busy kitchen so be sure to be extremely clear about the importance of avoiding cross contact and contamination. Make sure to ask specifically to have the employees change their gloves. If you are unsure, ask for the manager because he is knowledgeable and will make sure you are safe. The sweet and sour chicken and the Lazi chicken without pickled veggies are both safe and very delicious!
I ate here about 3 weeks ago after seeing it on this app. I had the sweet and sour chicken and white rice, which tasted really good. Unfortunately, I had an awful reaction. Regardless of label and confirmation of gluten free, I don’t see myself going back after my experience.
There are only 2 options here, but they are great options!! The sweet and sour chicken was delicious. The veggies with the rice plate are gluten free too. I felt totally fine after eating.
While the gluten free options are incredibly limited, I still really like this place. I spoke with the manager and they have officially transitioned to a dedicated gluten free fryer for the gluten free items which is very exciting. The sweet and sour chicken or cauliflower for vegetarians, are really great dishes. We’ve gotten take out and eaten dine-in and it consistently hits the spot. Overall, we’ve eaten here a handful of times and neither myself nor my partner (we’re both celiac) have had reactions.
