Sick as a dog-not worth it!!

4 days later I am finally back on my feet. I went to eat here because of the raving reviews on FindMeGlutenFree and the comments that stated the manager and the chef’s wife both had celiac disease. First warning sign were bread crumbs on the table right underneath my fork. Second warning sign was the manager assuring me they knew all there was to know about celiac disease and that they couldn’t control bread crumbs on the table and I shouldn’t worry because they weren’t on my plate. Shortly after eating the risotto cakes I started going down. I react within 15 minutes.

I think the saddest part of all was the complete lack of sympathy and arrogance on the staff’s part-especially the one who “supposedly” also has celiac. Had they of sat on the board of directors of the CSA and met as many celiac patients as I have they would understand that all individuals react completely differently as it is an auto immune disease. Once the poisonous lectin gets inside a person’s body, each person’s immune system attacks their own body quite differently. The chef was simply convinced that because his wife takes 4 hours for her immune system to start attacking itself, that surely mine could not start reacting within 15 Minutes. I have met patients that react almost immediately!

I left before the main course was served- in excruciating pain, completely embarrassed, and in literal tears on the drive home. My biggest take away was the terrible service. Thank God it was Friday so I didn’t miss two more sick days at work.

I have never been so humiliated or treated so poorly in all my life. The manager was just plain rude to me and literally angry that I got sick. I have never in all my life had a restaurant staff act or treat me in the manner that they did after becoming ill. It was heartbreaking.

Final takeaways- had I not of gotten sick, the food was just “ok”. Most certainly not like my 100% Italian Granny would of made it... it just wasn’t worth the risk. Every dish was bland, unbalanced in acidity and lacked overall flavor. Even the pasta was undercooked- not aldente. Eat at your own risk folks. And if you do get sick, prepare to be treated like a complete dog. Never in my life...Shame on them!
