Not impressed. The gf menu states one thing, the person taking our orders stated another. I avoided anything that both didn’t explicitly say was gluten free, and yet in the middle of the night sh*t hit the fan 🥺 My tummy is still a mess almost 24 hours later, I would NOT trust this place!
AMAZING! Must add this to your list! Went here two days in a row. They have a separate allergen menu. The staff a knowledgeable about celiac. It’s reasonably priced, has huge portions, and the food is absolutely delicious. A good portion of the menu is celiac-safe. Highly recommend the upstairs seating! I ordered the nachos both times I went (chips are celiac-safe and made in separate fryer)
I ate the brisket, ribs, and baked beans. The meat was a bit dry but the flavor was good. Beans were really tasty. They had a great variety of GF items and were knowledgeable when I asked. The had a separate menu that showed all the GF and dairy free options. I had no reaction.
Incredible for a GF individual. I had the beef brisket with Jacks sauce, slaw and fries and had zero reaction and I’m celiac and incredibly sensitive. And,it was the best barbecue I’d ever had. The individual I was dining with was from Memphis and he even agreed that it is THE BEST.
My favorite meal while in Nashville!! We elected to order food and sit down at a table vs sitting at the bar for a server. I cringed (almost didn’t go because of another review) when I asked if they had gluten free options? The girl at the counter whipped out the allergen menu that was right by the register and said this is what you want to look at! Super impressed, super fast, friendly, and really good!
Great experience. Order at the counter. First person didn’t know much about GF but instantly put me with someone that did. Second person was very knowledgeable about the GF options. Even said unprompted that the fries were fried separately which shows knowledge of the hazards. After the food was delivered to the table, the runner didn’t know which sauces were safe but immediately went and asked. The runner came back, told me which BBQ sauce was GF, and all was good. Very fun evening overall with friends. I definitely recommend this place. No reactions at all. Just make sure to get someone that knows about GF. Not all staff are aware and the options aren’t clearly marked, but some key staff are definitely very knowledgeable.
Food was good. My chicken was a little dry and my husband was disappointed on the amount of brisket on his brisket brisket burger but it still tasted good and was a good meal. I will say to use caution if you have allergies or celiac. I have celiac and did not get sick, thankfully but my son has allergies to cheese and his burger came out with cheese on it (we told them no cheese) and despite asking for no bread my Mom's meal came out with bread under her meat.
I am really surprised by all the 5 star reviews here. I loved the atmosphere, but I found the food to be mediocre and the BBQ sauce to be extremely watery (even for a vinegar-based sauce). It was so watery that it saturated the paper on the tray my food was served on, to the point that I probably had bits of wet paper mixed in with the pulled pork I was eating. My husband had the brisket chili, which he said was cold. Additionally, the water had a strong chemical taste, the prices were high, and there was confusion among the staff regarding which items on the menu are gluten free and which are not. I’d go to Mission BBQ over this place any day.
The smoked meats are GF but be careful, some sauces have gluten so make sure to ask not to include the sauce. The ribs were flavorful but very dry but they do have a dedicated fryer, so GF fries yay!
Saw the good reviews and figured it would be a good place to eat. Go to the front to order, I said " I heard you have quite a few gluten free options" and asked for a gluten free menu, he said they do not have many options. Then he couldn't find a gluten free menu, he said usually have one but it wasn't at the front. He said the ribs are only gluten free if I get plain, no seasonings or sauce on them. I asked if the nachos were fried seperately, and he said yes. I was skeptical because he didn't seem to know very much about gluten, but he wrote severe allergy on my order, and the nachos arrived with no bbq sauce or colesaw (which had gluten in them). I never got sick and am always super symptomatic. I wouldn't recommend for celiacs for the lack of options/safety.
Food confirmed to be gluten free on my NIMA and loved being able to enjoy BBQ in Nashville but everyone in my group was extremely disappointed with the food. Maybe it was a one off thing but our meat was very soggy and bland. The sauce was also very runny (tasted like straight water and vinegar). You can’t see the gluten free menu until you get to the register and there is a huge line behind you. The guy taking my order seemed annoyed I even asked for it. Basically, you have to make a very rushed decision what to order. Overall, probably my least fave restaurant in Nashville but I am so grateful that they have gluten free options and take safety protocols.
I took my boy (celiac) to Martin’s with low expectations because he’s typically a chicken nuggets/pizza kind of kid- wasn’t sure how bbq would go. BUT he told me several times, this was his favorite meal ever!
The young lady at the front counter was very helpful and presented me with an allergen menu. She said all of their meat is gluten free, but that the chicken tenders were not. So we got the quarter chicken with green beans and fries. I asked about the designated fryer, and she said it was and that the fries would be safe for him.
They brought our food, and before I let my son eat, I asked for a second time if the fries were made in a gf fryer, and the young man went to check with someone in the kitchen. Came back and said yes, it was designated gf.
My son loved it - not only did he love the chicken and fries, he loved the green beans! He ate every last one of them. I was so very pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be back next time we’re in town.
Ate here as part of a business event and was pleasantly surprised. Their website, with some digging) lists all allergy information, and the servers were on top of everything.
I loved the brisket so much. Everyone else loved the pulled pork but I wasn’t a huge fan. ALl of the smokers are gluten free. Everyone loved the chicken, but I didn’t try it. It looked great. I saved all the room for the brisket!
Only one of the sauces was gluten free. The only side I had was the cole slaw but everyone raved about the other sides.
Super good. Highly recommend the brisket and potato salad. The other meats are made in a factory that have gluten so I was advised to avoid them for a severe allergery. I was not a potato salad fan until I tried it but it was so good and the staff was super knowledgeable! I went upstairs to the bar and they had a GF hard cider and the waiter showed me the alleged menu so I could make my decision. And I felt great after!
Staff possessed knowledge about Celiac & were very helpful with me making smart choices. I had the ribs, using the table sauce along with potato salad & green beans. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend this place as long as you have any concerns about cross contamination answered.
I stopped here on a Friday evening at 5:30pm didn’t have to wait long to order and sit. I heard it usually gets packed after 5pm. The lady did tell me that the fryer wasn’t separate for the fries, so I was confused because the reviews said they did. But she was really confident they mix with the other batters. I had the brisket, broccoli salad, and potato salad to be safe. And it was delicious. I had no issues.
The food here is amazing! The cashier was very knowledgeable about gf options. I had the pulled pork, the brisket (AMAZING), broccoli salad and french fries (there is a dedicated fryer). Everything comes with no sauce, but the sauce in the table is gluten free. I am celiac, very sensitive and did jot get sick.
Cashier was incredibly helpful when I approached and mentioned I had a gluten allergy. I had the sliced beef brisket tray with the broccoli salad and green beans. She mentioned the fries were an option if I was okay with a 10% chance of cross contamination and I opted not to. She took the sauce off the brisket and pointed me to use the sauce on the table (it’s the only flavor on the tables) as it was their GF option. Great experience and didn’t get sick!
We had gone to a restaurant in the Omni, and were told they were closing soon. A server told us that we should check out Martin’s since there was no line. He said that most of the time the line is out the door and the food is amazing. We decided to check it out after reading the reviews here. I am so glad we took the chance! The cashier had an allergen list available that showed everything I could and could not eat. I had a salad with smoked turkey, and instead of dressing, I ate the bbq sauce that was on the table (the only one that is gf). They have a dedicated fryer for the fries, so I shared the fries with my friend. The broccoli salad was amazing! The coleslaw was bland, and I wouldn’t get it again. I was worried about cross contamination in a place like that, but I did not get sick from my meal and enjoyed it very much!
If I had the paid version I would rate this place as not celiac safe. When ordering the 2 waitresses were debating what was gluten free. When my first order was delivered it had dry rub on the ribs. I had asked for no rib because they were unsure if it was gluten free. The website says it it but I always like to check because things change. Order #2 the ribs were placed on bread. Order #3 had bbq that contained gluten on the side which I didn’t realized until I compared to the sauce on the table (which I was told was the only GF sauce). The ribs were very salty almost to the point of not being able to eat them. My husband who is not GF said his food lack flavor. My waitress did not understand what GF was. She seemed very annoyed with me that I kept sending it back. I truly hope I don’t get sick!
This Celiac loves, loves, loves Martin’s! I have eaten there often - both indoors before Covid & takeout since. Never, ever been glutened! I do heavily specify GF, and I always check order before I leave with my order, as a few times kitchen goofed & put my ribs on bread! But … management has always been awesome about it, and you can’t beat the taste if you grew up on TN BBQ! The ribs, I always order “naked.” Their pulled pork is delicious, as is their potato salad. Yummm! Think I’ll order some right now😊
Love Jack’s, but apparently there is a debate Jack’s vs Martin’s in Nashville. We tried Martin’s for the first time. There was a LONG line, and they just opened, so we sat at the bar rather than waiting since we were flying back home that afternoon. The bartender was able to point out everything that was GF on the menu. He even let me know what sauces I could have (not many as compared with Jack’s). Overall, awesome place.
Ordered a smoked turkey sandwich, no bun, with potato chips. Separate fryer so chips and fries are safe. Chips were really good! Meat portion did see .somewhat small.
Before ordering, I used the link to Picnik on their website to check allergen info. Told them gluten allergy when ordering and I felt confident with their response. I only used the BBQ sauce that was on the table but wish I would've asked for a different one just to try. Would go back for sure
Delicious burgers (no bun) & turkey. Was told they have a dedicated frier. Love their fries & slaw. Gentleman at the drive thru was very kind and helpful
There is no gf menu but all the meat is gf. The manager, Troy, was a god send. He also has celiac and helped my daughter and I know what was safe and what wasn’t. It was such a great experience and the food was amazing. I had the pulled pork tray with baked potato and green beans and my daughter had the smoked turkey and baked potato and green beans. It’s so wonderful when you find somewhere to eat and feel safe enjoying so much. Troy was so helpful it made our day.
** FRIES AND CHIPS ARE NOT SAFE** Speaking to the manager, after numerous experiences of being told they had a dedicated fryer, I was informed that they often do catering orders and just throw the entire order in all the fryers. Therefore, it’s not dedicated. Additionally the dry rub put on the chips is glutenous. As is the Sweet Dixie sauce.
