There’s a good reason that there are THIS many reviews (269 at the time of my review) on this website, when generally, even on the mainland, I tend to see maybe 20 or 30 for a given restaurant. It’s because Maui Brick Oven is THAT good. It’s my wife who has the gluten allergy, not me, but if I had walked into this place not knowing a thing about gluten-free dining, I’d have never known it’s completely gf. The food quality stands on its own, and it is wonderful! Also, and I’m sure some of the reviews mention this, but not a lot of them, Maui Brick Oven excels in a lot more than just pizza. They do fried foods perfectly! We had the coconut shrimp as one of our appetizers, and it was terrific! The batter was not too sweet at all (and it is too sweet in many other establishments), and not only that, it was really light and tasty. Add to that the plump, delicious shrimp you can taste (not just the batter), and the great dipping sauce, and that is one heck of an appetizer. In fact, we ordered a second one. That tells you something. We also had the fish and chips for the main dish, equally outstanding! It was blue marlin, firm, tasty, fried perfectly with another great batter. Almost tempura-like. It is just so great to have a gluten-free fried food dish in the first place, but for it to not be too heavy and make you feel terrible afterwards is a significant accomplishment, and Maui Brick Oven pulls it off. And consistently, based on the many glowing reviews. While we didn’t have the pizza (shame, I know), we did have the cheesy flatbread as another appetizer, suggested by our fabulous server, Katrina (more on that later), and a great suggestion indeed, because as she said, it does give you a taste for what the pizza would be like if you’re not going to order the pizza as your main dish. Really good crust, both in texture and flavor, and delicious cheese in the right proportion of cheese to crust. The cheesecake was also excellent. Every single item we had, we loved. We even ordered the penne Alfredo with shrimp to go, to take back to our condo. Yet another winner! Service was memorably excellent. We were greeted immediately by the hostess, who was very personable, and our server, Katrina was just wonderful. I mean, not just excellent service in the mechanical aspects, but WARM and friendly service. She really did a great job guiding us through the menu, we loved talking to her about everything food related, island related, and other topics. She obviously enjoys her job, and it shows. She showed us a great time. We had a great experience here and would consider returning to Maui SOLELY to eat here. And it’s not like we don’t eat out a lot - we do. It’s just THAT good. We wish them well as they continue to grow.
Wonderful experience, delicious food, the owner said her family is celiac and she understands the need for safe places to eat with yummy food. I got a pizza and cheese sticks and both were really great. I highly recommend this restaurant, ITS ENTIRELY GLUTEN FREE!!!!
This restaurant is 100% gluten free, and I didn’t get sick. But man, the food was awful! It felt like I was back in 2008, eating pizza that was soggy and chewy and breadsticks that were rock hard and tasted like a giant, stale saltine cracker. The only saving grace were the mozzarella sticks, but c’mon guys — gluten free food should taste just like normal food!
I may move to Maui just so I can eat here on a regular basis. The entire restaurant is gluten free. Living my best life with Parmesan bread sticks, mozzarella sticks, pizza, fantastic fish and chips, onion rings, cheesecake, and amazing molten lava chocolate cake. One of the best restaurants we have ever been to, including the gluten filled ones. Things to know: it’s casual, in a strip mall, and only open for dinner 4:00 to 9:00 Mon to Sat. And the family that owns it is adorable and sweet.
The best gf good I have ever had. Everything here is gf so no worries about cross contamination. I cannot wait to go back in December. The owner and his wife are so sweet and made sure I had a delicious meal. Must eat here if you are on Maui and gf.
We saw this on TV and it did not disappoint. Wonderful service and amazing food. We had a pizza and my son had fish n chips. All tasted fantastic! They make cinnamon rolls in Monday’s only and sell out early evening. Gonna try for some and will update review. I am guessing they will be great.
According to the staff, it’s the only 100% gluten free restaurant in the state. I LOVED being able to order anything without alterations, questions, or worry. For being GF, the pizza was pretty good. Another night I had the teriyaki chicken, which, for me, was just okay because I don’t care for dark meat (I should’ve asked first). Great sauce though. Wished they had been open for lunch and really wish there was one near me.
Absolutely delicious! Maui Brick Oven is a treasure for anyone looking for gluten free, delicious food. The pizza is cooked perfectly! The crust is light and crispy and does not fall apart! The Fish and Chips were crispy and flaky as were the onion rings. I wish we had one in Sonoma County!
The onion rings were fantastic, made with naturally GF beer (not gluten removed). Sadly, non-dairy cheese options aren't available for their pizza. I opted to build a cheese-less pizza (at my own risk), and do not recommend it. The crust was great, but the overall dish was not good. The server said that guests can bring their own DF cheese if in a sealed bag to have baked on their pizzas.
This place is absolutely amazing. It is family owned, a celiac family where the entire restaurant is gluten free. We have children with extreme celiac gluten sensitivity and we have twice come specifically to Maui for vacations just because of this wonderful family. The food is fantastic. There are lots of things you just cannot get elsewhere that is guaranteed gluten free. Fish and chips or breaded mushrooms or onion rings for just a few examples. My twelve year old son got glutened at the one meal we had at the foo foo pricy Grand Wailei, but about twleve dinners here over two trips and he never once had an issue. We have eaten everything on the menu. If you don't understand what a blessing it is to know you can go out every night and be guaranteed no contamination in a 100 percent gluten free restaurant, you don't understand celiac disease. Another nice thing is the menu is large enough that we ate there all week (two different vacations) and never got tired of it. The daughter Katrina is a superb waitress as well. This family is amazing. I hope they know every day what a difference they make!! We have had zillions of gluten free pizzas everywhere, and theirs is really good too! The kulua pig is also super. If you are a celiac family, stay in Kihea just because of this place and eat there every night. Outside of Italy (where they get gluten free) this place is the best.
The whole menu was gluten free. We had onion rings and bread sticks for appetizers. For dinner my husband and kids had pizza, my daughter had chicken fingers and I had the Thai peanut chicken. The pizza wasn't our favorite. The onion rings were delicious. We got the apple dessert and it was delicious but wish it had more ice cream on top. Service was very slowly. We didn't get checked on after our food arrived and I even had to go to he front to request refills for our table.
If you’re celiac, This is the place to eat! You can’t go wrong eating at a dedicated gluten-free environment when you’re eating things like mozzarella sticks, onion rings and pizza! Food is amazing! It’s so nice to be able to order anything off the menu and know it’s safe.
I’m so excited I found this gluten free restaurant on MAUI. I’m glad I found a place that knows the struggle of having to eat GF. It’s a great family environment. The food was AMAZING & the staff are all family & were so pleasant & welcoming. We found out our daughters allergic to wheat & to find this restaurant was like a blessing to us. Seeing our daughters eyes light up & enjoy the food, made our hearts so happy. We highly recommend this place & were definitely going back!
The entire extensive menu is gluten free! First time I’ve had fish and chips in years, delicious! My family, who are not GF, loved the Mac and Cheese, spaghetti and pizza. As I was eating, I actually wondered if everything was really GF, that’s how good it is. Highly recommend!!
The owner is pure joy to talk to and get excellent service from! I’m only visiting Maui and because it had sooooo many excellent reviews - I paid to get a Lyft ride so that I could eat here - totally worth it!!!! The mozzarella cheese sticks!!! The fish & chips!!! The bread bites!!!! I swapped out onion rings for French fries - and they were so fluffy and crunchy and delicious!!!
Where to even begin?! We were welcomed with some of the most friendly service we’ve encountered on this island. (People were less friendly here than anticipated). We then delved into our delicious, beer battered appetizers, followed by a delicious meal that we ate family style. Yum! Then our delicious gluten free desserts! A little pricey, but worth it in the end! Thanks for the stress free gluten free food!
Entire restaurant was gluten free. Felt very safe here. Both owners have Celiac disease. The pizza was awesome. I'd recommend skipping the pork and rice bowls. Not very good. We had those the first night. They also do fish and chips and have lots of other fried options like onion rings and chicken tenders. All gluten free. Definitely worth a stop.
We went for pizza but there were so many other options, we never had pizza! Delicious fish and chips, calamari, onion rings, good salad selection, and we even came home with fresh cinnamon rolls! Very friendly, casual atmosphere-wish we had one of these back home!
This restaurant was the most awesome totally gluten-free restaurant I have been too. The staff was so friendly and so gracious. The onion rings are to die for right along with the mozzarella sticks. I could’ve eaten my whole meal with just appetizers. We ordered the Thai pizza totally awesome. Don’t miss this opportunity for a totally Worry free meal
This place deserves the 5 star rating. The food was so good. I went with a gf friend and we split orders of onion rings, mozzarella sicks, mac and cheese and coconut shrimp. It was so worth it. The fish and chips was made with fresh caught striped marlin. It is a bit on the spendy side, but everywhere in Maui is. It was nice to find a dedicated place with indulgences you don't normally see.
Just ate at Maui Brick Oven and couldn’t be more pleased. Eating at a dedicated GF facility made my dining experience worry free which I haven’t had in a very long time unless I cook it myself. The fish and chips were outstanding and voted best fish and chips on the island. The chocolate lava cake was the perfect dessert to finish the meal. Highly recommend going here. Just wish I could take them to my home town with me!
