OMG! It took my cousin from Chicago to come down to Houston to tell me she'd found this place online. I can't remember the last time I had fried chicken and I LOVE the stuff!! I've eaten it twice since March (it's July). I also have to be low-carb/ketogenic due to other metabolic issues and even though I ate 3 pieces, it did not kick me out of ketosis the next day! The first time, the waitress said that the people who have tried both the gf and regular actually say they like the gf version better!!!! It is to die for!!!!! So the plate is about 18 bucks. You get 3 large pcs of FRIED chicken, a leg, a breast and a thigh. It's a LOT of food. You get mashed potatoes, which are ALSO wonderful (but I had to sub due to my other dietary needs), it also comes with some collard greens that are not bad. I'm not the biggest fan of collard greens but mostly because I just have not eaten them a whole lot in my lifetime. It cost me $6 to sub green beans. It was a whole lot of them but I thought it was quite a steep sub. You could sub fries and one or two other things that I couldn't eat for free. As far as I know, there's no other way to get the chicken a la carte. You can add a piece to the plate for like 6 bucks and split it with someone. It is a LOT of food, we are big eaters and we always take food home from here. Like another reviewer said, they have a dedicated fryer for their gluten free chicken. They also have some gluten friendly beer. At least they did when I was there last week. The staff has always been out of this world friendly and super helpful. Definitely on our top 2 gf meals to eat at Htown restaurants. This is for the Washington locations, have not been to others YET ;) (mouth actually watering as I type)

Amazing gf fried chicken and beer, as well as a few other yummy choices! Great experience and I appreciate that they noted it was "gluten friendly," and not totally gluten free due to the non gf kitchen. But no tummy issues and that's what's important.
We haven't had any problems and the food is delicious (entrees in particular; some of the sides are kind of bland). The fried chicken is a specialty and is certainly among the best I've ever had, gluten-free or not. Be sure to specify gluten-free fried chicken, since they prepare it both ways.
We were so excited to try the fried chicken after reading the reviews. When ordering I informed the waitress that my kids had celiac disease. The sous chef then came out to talk to us and told us he did not feel it was safe for us to eat at the restaurant. He said he can't confirm that the dedicated fryers were actually being used correctly. I appreciated the honesty but do not recommend for celiacs.
Fried chicken and greens! OMG the best chicken, even counting before I found out I had celiacs! Staff was kind and low key about my request for extra caution without drawing undue attention to me like some restaurants have to act like it's a big production to bring out gluten free food to a customer and I just want a dining experience like every other customer!
First time we ate here it was GREAT. Chicken was juicy and tasty and best of all gluten free. But these last two times I have gotten sick. I'm celiac and I did tell the waiter. I do not get sick right away and when I do I'm just trying to get home rather than call them back. Not sure if the chef is the same? I was so happy to finally find fried chicken but now I don't think we are going back. Not worth the consequences.
Love love love this place. The owner of the company is actually Celiac so it's a big deal for them. The gluten free fried chicken is fried in a dedicated fryer (although it takes about 25 minutes to cook, more if it's busy) and is one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. The staff there is also super friendly, and I will definitely be going back there.
I've only found gf fried chicken one other time in 4 years and this was far superior! Crispy, crunchy, tender inside and not greasy. Also had bone marrow popcorn. Very good! Lots of choices. It is a seasonal menu. Came with a large group, many who ordered regular fried chicken. Mine was on a black plate. Everyone raved.
Quite a few things: 1) Website does not accurately reflect the amount of options. You will have stuff to eat here! 2) Unless you're a vegetarian. I recently started eating meat and thank goodness. Would only have 1 option, you guessed it, a salad. 3) The service I had was TERRIBLE! Our waiter basically ignored my mother and I. Took forever to order, constantly sipping empty water glasses, he wasn't friendly. Very off out from that. 4) I was excited for the GF chicken and GF zucchini bread, but the chicken was SPICY. It's not talked about on this app. Also zucchini bread wasn't on menu- maybe it's seasonal? This app greatly talked up Max's. Service brought my ranking down. It seems overrated from previous reviews. That said, it is a safe place to eat.
Terrific experience. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about celiac disease and took great care of me. The plate my boyfriend ordered was not originally gluten free but they happily modified it so I could share with him. The GF fried chicken was to die for! As were the pb&j wings! I highly recommend it!
This restaurant has plenty of gf food options. My daughter and I both thought the food was delicious. The fried chicken had a wonderful crunch and it had juicy delicious meat. I am extremely sensitive and I am not reacting to the food. There are large portions for the price of the food. This restaurant is definitely worth going out of your way to get here.
food was great but I got glutened. I'm sure it was either the appetizer or the ketchup, which was unmarked, so I don't know the brand. I know the chicken is fried separately. I was really excited since the owner has Celiac, but slip ups in the kitchen happen. I won't be back though. Can't risk the intestinal damage and horrible symptoms.
Owner has Celiacs. FOH and BOH staff are well trained on allergy issues. Gluten free dishes are served on black plates, those containing gluten on white. I had the fried chicken plate. Devoured it completely. It was surprisingly clean and lean. There is thought behind the preparation. The food isn't polluted with butter, fat, sugar, cream or salt. Zucchini bread dessert was fantastic as well.
I've only been there once so maybe it was an off night. Fried chicken was just OK. The mashed potatoes that came with it seemed waterlogged. I like mashed potatoes with a lot more butter and cream. These tasted like they were made with a thinner milk - just not enough fat. The chipotle honey that came with was a great addition. I love honey on fried chicken. I would come back if other folks in a party wanted to go here. There are lots of options for me to eat. But I probably won't come back on my own.
It was Restaurant Week so they had a limites menu, but still plenty of options including gluten-free fries chicken. I haven't had fried chicken since being diagnosed celiac and this didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere and staff. I would definitely visit again! Probably a good idea to make reservations - we got lucky without them.
On line menu is not updated. Was looking forward to gf shrimp/grits because it was on the web menu, then after arriving found out it was not gf. Chef was knowledgable and I ate there w/o getting sick, but they need to keep up w their menu on line. Had the tasting menu w the wine pairings, it was just ok. Wine portions very small.
The chicken was as good as other reviewers said t would be. The curried okra was also a excellent and the fries as well. They do have a separate dedicated fryer so no issues at all. The chef even came by to tell us all the items that could be modified to fit our needs.
