Absolutely amazing fried chicken. The owner had celiac disease. I got the Bellini, Fried chicken, and fries. The staff is also super nice.

The entire waitstaff was very friendly and our waitress made sure my meal was gluten free in all aspects. Their menu is over half marked (GF) “gluten friendly” and a couple items are (AGF) “ask for gluten friendly.” The thought to have great tasting fried chicken that is gluten friendly was an amazing treat as well. Even the fried deviled eggs were made with potato flour, so an extra added treat to have an appetizer as well. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone.

I have ordered here many times and they’re usually pretty good when you go in the restaurant but do not order for delivery. They do no listen when you say gluten friendly. I have ordered the chicken Caesar salad gluten friendly many times and this is the 3rd time it’s come with gluten containing croutons. We’ve spoken to a manager multiple times and was told that it wouldn’t happen again but it has. Not safe.

We got the gluten free fried chicken. The menu price is $24 but they charge you $38. It’s not that good. The mashed potatoes aren’t good they have garlic heavily added and a gritty texture. My chicken was raw but they did take it back and fix it. Had 2 people in our party that ordered gluten free burgers. They did come on a gluten free bun. They liked the spicy mustard on it. And liked the flavor of the burger. And it’s very loud with music wears on the nerves quickly. They do have a large selection of wine. So if you drink you will like that portion of it. Did not have a gluten free menu but staff was knowledgeable and able to tell you what they had available

Fired chicken, French fries, AND (deep fried) deviled eggs, amazing. Everyone was super knowledgeable! Fantastic food, and stop. I'm celiac and sensitive. Great experience.

Owner has Celiac. The manager told me that they have been working on perfecting the recipe and I have to say that it was absolutely fantastic. Separate fryer and they have gf bread for the cheese board as well. So good and I would recommend it to anyone in the Downtown Houston area.

I’ve been coming here for over 3 years. I always order the GF fried chicken with mash potatoes and greens. It takes longer to cook but WELL WORTH IT!!! I am highly sensitive and have never had any interactions. Very knowledgeable staff. Only downside is limited outdoor seating (Washington Ave location only— the Montrose location has great outdoor seating)

We had a lovely evening. I asked about the risk of cross-contamination and they said that they have a separate fryer that they use for the gluten-free fried chicken. It is worth calling in advance, because once in a blue moon the fryer is down, and they fry everything in one fryer. My husband and I both had the gluten-free fried chicken, and we also enjoyed the collard greens and mashed potatoes that accompany it. I can’t remember the last time that I was able to eat fried chicken on the bone.

Max's is one of my favorite brunch spots. I love their fried chicken and greens. The last time I went it was around Mardi Gras so I got the Mardi Gras French Toast and chicken wings. Their Froze' frozen mimosas are the best!

This place is ok. Nice drinks and good service but the fried chicken although a good portion doesn’t have much flavor. If you want the real deal flavor try Gus World Famous or the Breakfast Klub. A little disappointed as it’s their speciality.

We went for brunch last weekend and we liked the experience. The appetiser (deviled eggs) and mimosa was very good. We got the Spicy Chicken burger which looked pretty tasty! The restaurant is a bit small and can be crowded. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend another visit for sure but make your reservation.

What a fiasco.....we ordered their Friendsgiving "special" that would serve up to 5 people. Being from out of town and staying in a hotel, this made sense. We ended up paying $211 for fried chicken and mashed potatoes and 4 single serving desserts. When we called to let them know the order was short 3 of the other items we PAID FOR, they wanted to argue that they saw it and were certain that they bagged it. Nonetheless, they said come get what you're missing. My husband waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for mustard greens, a charcuterie boards, and gluten-free mac n' cheese. And....you guessed it, it was wrong and short again. No greens. If they are going to take orders, at least be sure you can handle the number of people you take orders from. This is our first and last $211 mistake, and definitely our only Max's Wine Dive experience. I give 2 stars because at least the chicken 🐔 was good. But to say we were disappointed in the experience is putting it lightly. How 'bout that cheese board? (See Photo)

Champagne Cobb salad was excellent! Be sure to talk to staff ... most of their fried stuff is not okay but chicken is.

Their GF chicken was amazing! It was a great experience to be able to eat fried chicken again.
Yes
Staff was very knowledgeable. We had the deviled eggs and fried chicken. My son had the meatloaf. Wonderfully seasoned and crispy. Even my local grandma loved it!
I got severely glutened from this place. I had the crab cake and gf fried chicken. They reassured me that it was a separate fryer and all celiac friendly but they mentioned they had a new chef that had started and he must not be aware of the sensitivities of celiac as I got very sick immediately after eating here. Beware.

Gluten free FRIED CHICKEN!!! first time in over 30 years!! fabulous bartender!! great selection of wine... a 10** in my book... will definitely be Back... Thank you
Yes
OMG! It took my cousin from Chicago to come down to Houston to tell me she'd found this place online. I can't remember the last time I had fried chicken and I LOVE the stuff!! I've eaten it twice since March (it's July). I also have to be low-carb/ketogenic due to other metabolic issues and even though I ate 3 pieces, it did not kick me out of ketosis the next day! The first time, the waitress said that the people who have tried both the gf and regular actually say they like the gf version better!!!! It is to die for!!!!! So the plate is about 18 bucks. You get 3 large pcs of FRIED chicken, a leg, a breast and a thigh. It's a LOT of food. You get mashed potatoes, which are ALSO wonderful (but I had to sub due to my other dietary needs), it also comes with some collard greens that are not bad. I'm not the biggest fan of collard greens but mostly because I just have not eaten them a whole lot in my lifetime. It cost me $6 to sub green beans. It was a whole lot of them but I thought it was quite a steep sub. You could sub fries and one or two other things that I couldn't eat for free. As far as I know, there's no other way to get the chicken a la carte. You can add a piece to the plate for like 6 bucks and split it with someone. It is a LOT of food, we are big eaters and we always take food home from here. Like another reviewer said, they have a dedicated fryer for their gluten free chicken. They also have some gluten friendly beer. At least they did when I was there last week. The staff has always been out of this world friendly and super helpful. Definitely on our top 2 gf meals to eat at Htown restaurants. This is for the Washington locations, have not been to others YET ;) (mouth actually watering as I type)
Fabulous fried chicken. Need to add some desserts to gluten free options.
Yes
Amazing gf fried chicken and beer, as well as a few other yummy choices! Great experience and I appreciate that they noted it was "gluten friendly," and not totally gluten free due to the non gf kitchen. But no tummy issues and that's what's important.
