No offense, but this place was a joke for the price. My teenager has Celiac's. Pizza wasn't that great and for $22+ it wasn't worth the rest of our meals to sit through. She said it compared to Udi's frozen. Our bill for a family of 4 was right around $120+ with appetizers and drinks, not including tip. None of us finished our food due to taste. My 7 year old wanted just cheese pizza and it came on garlic bread, which she hates and was not advertised as that on children's menu. Our service was the other issue. It took TWO HOURS and most of the time we were flagging our waitress asking her for things versus her anticipating need: drinks, plates picked up, orders placed and not yet received. We all got our meals at different times. We were on patio, therefore out of mind out of sight, I guess. This place is not worth the $$$.
WATCH OUT I was served a beer that was not gluten free. The waitress said that she was told that it was gluten free. Had I not known about this particular beer, I would have become very ill. They have Estrella Damm which is a spanish beer that does have a gluten free version called Daura, but you have to be very careful because the non gluten free bottles look very similar to the gluten free bottles. The Daura bottle does have Gluten Free on it. WATCH OUT!!!!
The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about what needed to be done for my son who has Celiac. The kitchen staff did an excellent job preparing for limited cross contamination and the 12" pepperoni pizza was $12.99 which seems very reasonable compared to other GF items we purchase.
Excellent gluten and dairy free pizza! The staff was all very knowledgeable and the menu even describes how they bake the crust in a separate area of the kitchen! I am very sensitive and had absolutely now problems here. Very impressed and will be sure to stop by another one whenever I get the chance!
the gluten free pizza crust is very thin, so mine was soggy. could just be the vegetarian pizza though. it tasted decently but it was SO pricey! 22 dollars for a 12" pizza. until I discovered my gluten allergy, I ate there a bunch and loved it. I will not be getting gluten free pizza here again! everything else was great.
They have a separate gluten free pizza section of the menu with about 6 different pizza options, or create your own from a list. The staff was nice but we waited a long time to be served though it wasn't crowded. They gave us a discount when we mentioned waiting 45 plus minutes after ordering to get our food. My daughter with a wheat allergy enjoyed being able to have pizza. The menu says the gluten free pizza is all cooked separately.
I had a delicious dairy free and gluten free pizza and did not get sick. Also had New planet Gluten Free beer. Not gluten removed. Brewed gluten free. I was impressed. Edit to add: they had excellent allergy protocols listed on the back of their menu. Only certain toppings are handled under allergy protocols so read the menu carefully.
I’ve had the gf pizza twice, once in the restaurant everything was great and then once delivered, within 30 minutes of eating it I was terribly ill. Not sure what happened it...was the same pizza with same toppings as last time. Thinking there was some cross contamination this time. Super disappointed.
Good tasty pizza. Hard to find a good pizza place with a separate cooking process for GF. They do charge extra for GF crust and my toppings were a bit sparce for the price I paid. But overall good, and was safe!
We didn't plan on eating here, but the day got rearranged so we decided to get pizza knowing it was a safe option and there are very little on the parkway. Wish I would have read the reviews. It's me and my kids and they seat us in the bar. There are tons of seats open everywhere else in the restaurant and the bar is empty. Kinda odd. First thing we notice is that every item (reg.pizza, GF pizza and salads) are all $5 more than where we live in Knoxville. But we're there and we're hungry. My daughter and I split a Greek salad and a GF pizza. Salad was good but dressing is very thick. GF crust was undercooked and didn't hold toppings on. Toppings were tasty and better quality than crust. My son ate a traditional crust and said the same, that toppings were good but crust not very flavorful. Interesting since it's not GF but same issue. All in all, it was a decent lunch but awfully expensive.
This was a great experience. We ordered the GF pizza for my 6yo twins with Celiac and they liked it. They have a separate prep area and oven for GF. We watched the cook switch aprons and gloves before fixing their pizza.
They have a separate station for preparing GF pizzas. Pizzas are tasty!
(Review from a local) Best celiac experience we’ve had at a restaurant ever! They are as good as some Disney restaurants when it comes to allergies!! They have a separate prep space and allergy oven. They use corn masa to roll their regular pizzas instead of flour so airborne gluten isnt too much of an issue. We were able to speak directly with the manager and he made the pizzas himself to ensure no cross contamination and myself and my celiac son felt great after. Also, they carry glutenberg beers for those that like to enjoy a certified gluten free beer with their pizza.
Waiter was very good about letting us know which food was "no gluten ingredients" and which were properly gluten free. Annoyingly GF on menu is not the marking for "free of any gluten". GF pizza was very good and would happily go back.
The pizza was sooo good and the staff was extremely knowledgeable on allergens. I ordered the gluten free pizza with pesto and follow your heart vegan cheese since I have a milk allergy as well. The waitress came out a few minutes later and told me that the pesto had cheese in it so I was able to order something else. I had a great experience plus they have a Rubik’s cube sign on the wall so that is definitely worth checking out!
They clearly take gluten allergies very seriously because they shut down the line and clean it to cook the pizzas separately. They even keep certain ingredients in a separate fridge which is why certain GF ingredients are not labeled as such - because they’re in a fridge with non GF items. I thought that was pretty cool. The one drawback is the time you have to wait for your order, but not getting sick is worth it. Just be prepared to wait and if you’re eating with non GF people just go ahead and let them eat first.
menu is confusing, no GF appetizers, first thing they try to do is give you booze, been there twice with no GF dough available. Could not get order right, after waitress explained menu and we made choices we still got wrong pizzas.
Its expensive for a gluten free pizza...I have Celiac and react strongly when glutened. I never get a reaction, but be careful cause they use paper straws in their drinks and I don't know if they have gluten in them or not as the paste or body of the straw. They are kinda rude whenever asked questions. I just don't use the straws.
We ordered for pick up. They did gluten free really well, and the pizza was pretty good. We had the mighty meat - toppings were delicious. The crust was a little soft, but that is unfortunately common with gluten free. Regardless, it was good and safe, and we'd eat there again.
We had the mighty meat and enjoyed it! Staff were quick to answer all of our questions about gf safety and we felt very comfortable eating here. Our only complaint was the middle of the pizza had crust that was a bit soft but otherwise, for us, the taste was great. Would recommend to others for sure!
Not only do they have gluten-free pizza, their toppings are listed as gluten-free or not in the normal menu. Also, they gave me the best pizza ever!
Sensitive Celiac here and I eat at this Mellow Mushroom probably once a month. I’ve not had issues here. I find that they take their procedures seriously and have had good luck here! We usually get the Cosmic Karma or Veggie Lovers GF pizzas 👍
The GF pizza used to be a decent size but, unfortunately, they changed it so now the only option is a very small kid-sized pizza. Not at all worth the price, considering it would take two to actually fill me up and I’m a small person!
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS LOCATION!!! Ordered a plain gluten free cheese pizza through doordash and it looked very much like a regular gluten full pizza but I double and triple checked my receipt and it said the order was gluten free. After eating a piece and having another person taste a regular pizza and mine from this place I called the restaurant and checked to see. They said it was supposed to be a thin crust typical of other restaurants (which it was definitely not). After five minutes on hold to speak with the manager the same lady came back on the phone saying that he was “too busy” and that they could remake it but I would have to go to the store to pick it up and that they couldn’t give me a refund and would have to call doordash to be refunded for their mistake. Definitely will not be ordering again! How can you mess up a clearly labeled gluten free order!!!
Celiac friendly! Pizza prepared and made in a separate location. Servers very knowledgeable and helpful. Gluten pizza tastes great too. Such a relief to eat at a restaurant and not be worried about cross contamination.
Mellow mushroom is always a good, safe chain to go to because they prepare their gluten free pizzas in a separate area (away from all the horrible gluten). The staff always brings the gluten free pizza out separate from the gluten ones to insure no contamination, which I appreciate. Never gotten sick!
The back of their menu has about 2 paragraphs on how the staff is trained in cross contamination and how they prevent that in the cooking process. They were so awesome and great to talk with. They even mark each pizza topping on whether it’s GF or not! They also if your lactose intolerant has AMAZING vegan cheese. It was awesome. Idk if some of the reviews here are older calling it not celiac friendly but I can tell you right now it is.
Got glutened. Yes, pizza places are always risky for celiacs, but given how many other Mellow Mushrooms we’ve eaten at, with no problem, the chain clearly has a system to keep GF pizzas as segregated as possible, and this location is not following it.
Had great service from our server Wed afternoon and he was diligent in explaining the process for the GF pizza. My daughter has Celiac and we explained that she’s extremely sensitive. My daughter asked for bacon on her pizza and our server went back to verify it was separate and gluten free. She enjoyed the pizza and had zero reactions!
