I’ve eaten at this particular Mellow Mushroom twice and gave not gotten sick. Their gf crust is good and the pizzas were delicious. The waitstaff who I have encountered know the gf options and explained that the gf pizza prep is separate from regular pizza prep. I would eat here again.
They prep the gluten free pizza in a separate area
They are now using the corporate pizza dough and it is DISGUSTING ! The local vender they use to have is no longer in business to offer them their gluten free pizza dough which was awesome!!!!!! Corporate needs to go back in the kitchen lab and work on a better gluten free dough.
I am very sad to report that this restaurant is unsafe. For almost a year now, this location has been my go to for gluten-free pizza. However, I am sad to report that last night I was made very sick by this restaurant. I called in a takeout order for a gluten-free Kosmic Karma pizza with extra cheese and bacon, just as I usually do. I also stressed and repeated in my call that this was a gluten allergy and not a preference and to make the kitchen aware of this fact. However, here I am woefully sick after eating this pizza. Not only that when I called to make the restaurant aware of what happened I didn’t even get an apology. I saw no signs that they even cared in the slightest that they had made me sick.
Unfortunately, as a Celiac, I cannot recommend this specific Mellow. First time I ate here, I was sick before leaving the restaurant. Second time around, sick halfway home.
Both times, I specified that I had Celiac, and asked if it would be prepped and cooked safely. I was assured it would be. My digestive tract says otherwise.
The Raleigh MM, however, I've had zero issue with (to date).
Best gf pizza you can get, but I agree with Katie that it is quite expensive for the size. I'm the only one of the family who can eat gluten so I get pretzels to help keep the total bill down.
i've always been a fan of their pizza and the GF one is good. i think they also have GF beer. however, be warned- the 12" GF pizza is $18, at least in Durham. i don't think it used to be that pricey and the GF pizza at other places like Brixx and Lilly's is cheaper, i think. mellow mushroom is safe and good quality but be prepared to spend a lot.
If you let the greeter and/or server know you have celiac, your table should be wiped down and your food will come on distinct plates. They're done a good job training their folks, it seems.
The pizza crust is really good, though it's a shame it doesn't come in more than one size.
Great pizza. Great service. The host even wiped down our table and brought out special gf safe plates. I've never gotten sick here, and I am super sensitive.
This was a perfect quick stop for me during my trip to Nashville!! When everyone wanted a “quick bite” this is where I would go! Service was super quick and my bartender had celiac disease and she explained their whole process and how I’d be safe! I Really appreciated this! I actually ate here twice in my short trip because it really was perfect!
