A must try if you’re in the area! Delicious authentic Japanese food, and nearly the entire menu can be made gluten free!
Visited with my husband and friend today and was blown away by how great the food and service was. As other reviews mentioned, the restaurant is owned and operated entirely by a mother and daughter.
After mentioning I had celiac, the daughter not only assured me of their procedures for preventing cross contamination (clean cutting boards, dedicated fryer, etc), but even shared a personal notebook of restaurants safe for people with celiac disease from all over the world (lots of contributions from customers with celiac disease). They mentioned they have friends with celiac, so they totally understand it and take it seriously. So awesome!
The food takes a long while to prepare since there’s only one person cooking (~45 mins), and there isn’t any seating aside from two small tables outside of the restaurant.
Call ahead and plan to get your order to go if possible. Worth the wait though!
They take celiac very seriously! They also have a dedicated fryer for us GF folks (wow, how many restaurants have that??) if your heart desires. It’s an elderly Japanese woman and her daughter who run the place, and if you’re a regular, I promise they extra treat you like gold and very much look forward to seeing you. I usually get sushi while my brother likes the chicken teriyaki. It’s very yummy. They were located in SF for about 20 years before, so we’re pretty lucky to have them here now!
Plan on some extra time, but totally worth it! They take so much extra care (hence the extra time) when preparing food for any allergy. Super fresh and delicious!
This is the first Japanese restaurant with lots of gluten free options I have been to. Almost the whole menu can be made gluten free, they also have a dedicated fryer and only use tamari in the restaurant. The food was great, we ordered whole grilled calamari, ramen and teriyaki fried chicken dinner set. The hostess was welcoming and knowledgeable.
