This place is a whimsical and fun blend of a modern, yet total throwback, experience. The entire feel of the place, from the style of cuisine, the high-backed leather banquets, to the piano player playing standards at the mirror-backed bar, give the feel of a late 70s early 80s steakhouse that happens to serve a lot of seafood. That said, the food is GOOD. Really good. We had the fried calamari and coconut shrimp to start and I had the filet of sole. My non-celiac partner had the crab cakes. Nothing was disappointing. The menu is very clearly marked with GF options, the server was knowledgeable (even to the point of being able to explain to me how the beer-battered prawns were still GF) and there was clearly an emphasis on making as many menu options GF as possible. But the real reason to come to Moonraker is not actually in the restaurant. It’s the stunning front-row view of the Pacific Ocean afforded by the huge plate glass windows all along the west side of the restaurant. Beautiful. If you can find fun in the blatantly old-school parts of this dining experience, this is a great place to visit. It was clear that their attention to food safety was right up-to-date!
