Good but be careful. We let our servers know about my celiac when we ordered. The half chicken is labeled as GF on the web menu but not on the paper menu in person. They were great about answering all our questions and weren’t pushy or rude. The wedge salad was amazing! Chicken was wonderful!! Crème brûlée did come out with a cookie on top so we had to send it back (which they let us keep for someone else at the table). This is why I suggest to be careful. They had a selection of drinks that were gluten free but they aren’t labeled (and yes some alcohol contains gluten besides beer). The fleur de lis drink was very good. Food was amazing and service was wonderful! Staff was accommodating. Just wish they would have been more careful but I understand accidents happen.

We also had Kendall as our server, four years after a previous review! The staff appears knowledgeable. However, while they were attentive to the gluten issue, they were not as attentive to the dairy issue that I told them about. I did not have a gluten reaction though and the food was very good. I would go back here. But if you have sensitivities other than gluten, you will have to make sure they understand those as well. I will!

I went for brunch here and had a mimosa and the shrimp and grits. Both were delicious and I did not have a reaction. There were not many options for brunch that were gluten free, but I felt safe eating what I did eat, and the atmosphere was lovely!

John at the downstairs bar accommodated me quite well. The Pork Chops don’t have the GF in the menu like a number other items on the regular menu. However after seeing all the other reviews noting how good the pork chops were I asked.
They were very good.

I was nervous to eat here as it's so busy and in the French market. The cashier, who is more than just a cashier, mentioned that they are very careful about cross contamination. I ordered what I saw in another review, po-boy with shrimp and Cajun fries. It was a long wait but worth it! The po' boy was on a little French style baguette and had a tasty sauce a little spicy. Everything was fine. I have celiac and I react violently, but I did not have any issues here. I would eat there again in a minute

I enjoyed a wonderful meal here. I had the pork chop with sweet potatoes and greens. It has the New Orleans taste to it. I had made a reservation online and put in the comments I needed a gluten free meal for Celiac disease. When we got there I didn't even have to ask for a gluten green menu. They brought mine along with the others. The waitress was very eager to help me. And she also recommended the creme brûlée or the flourless chocolate cake. I chose the creme brûlée and it was great! We will go back the next time we go to New Orleans. I will tell you it's a little pricy but definitely worth it.

AWFUL! arrived after calling and confirming gluten free options. The supposed gluten free chicken is served on gluten containing mashed potatoes. You can easily determine this by viewing the “side of buttermilk mashed potatoes” that is not gluten free vs the chicken with buttermilk mashed potatoes listed as GF. When we made them aware of the very dangerous error on the menu, they offered to sub fries from a shared fryer. Then they said you know what - the only safe thing for you is shrimp and grits. Not what we came for. We felt very uncomfortable when the server stated when you get sick we will take responsibility (whatever that means) and ultimately left without eating.

We enjoyed a great meal at Muriel’s. There were limited gluten-free items, but there were a couple of choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts. The menu had GF items clearly labeled. Best meal in New Orleans so far.

Ate here and left a review in 2018 and was back in town yesterday. The reviews now seem hit or miss, but based on last time and how much I loved the food went back. I hade th GF pork chop and split the gf flourless cake. Both were excellent and no reacions.

The menu had GF marked. About half the food is GF. I had the shrimp and grits. It was very creamy and tasty. The creme brûlée was great too. I asked why the duck entree was not GF, as the description read like it was GF. He told me that the potatoes were cooked in a shared fryer. So. I have had no issues, and would eat here again.

Glutened. I got the shrimp & grits after reading the other reviews and seeing the chicken wasn’t safe. Server seemed knowledgeable and said they’d cook my food in separate pans and everything. I strongly advise not eating here if you’re celiac.

We called before making a reservation to confirm their gluten free options, traveling with a teen with celiac disease. Our server made a big issue of telling us how well they understood allergies. When we arrived we noticed that the roasted chicken meal was marked GF, and included mashed potatoes, but mashed potatoes on the ala Carte were NOT marked GF. We inquired and our server told us the potatoes were indeed NOT GF, and that something else like French fries could substitute, (French fries are gluten free only if fried in a dedicated fryer). She then stated it would be best if she ordered shrimp and grits (she hates grits). Then she told us the potatoes WERE GF. Which one is it???? Gluten makes someone with severe celiac disease very sick, and we felt that this server would say anything, but not knowledgeable at all. We felt very uncomfortable with her lack of knowledge, and decided that we could not trust anything that she had said, and decided to leave

Amazing! What a great dining experience- I would be back every day if the trip in Nola if possible. Friendly staff, knowledgeable about gf, and enough options to feel like you’re not limited! Didn’t have any reactions, this is a must do here. We walked in with no reservation- you won’t regret a meal here!

Had a wonderful meal here! The menu items that are gf are clearly marked, and I had no reaction to my meal, so cross contamination was definitely low to none. I'm a very sensitive celiac, and it was lovely to be able to relax and enjoy three courses in this gorgeous space. There was one appetizer that was gf, four entrees, and one dessert when I went. I had the wedge salad, roasted chicken, and flourless chocolate cake. It was all delicious. My niece accompanied me and asked if we could come back the next day. I do recommend making a reservation.

Muriels clearly marks their food which is a welcome sight for most of us. I got the steak which was delicious. There may have been some minor cross contam- got a tiny bit of bloating after but it settled. Might just be me being sensitive to red meat tho tbh. Other side note- this place is very stuffy and full of loud drunk older tourists lol

Lovely meal & fun location right across from Jackson Square. The gf items are clearly marked on the menu, and our servers (we had a drink server and a meal server) were knowledgeable about celiac safety. Started with a salad (none of the other appetizers were gf on todays menu), shrimp & grits for the main course (excellent), and finished with the flourless chocolate cake with blackberries for dessert (good). The restaurant was packed so highly recommend advance reservations.

I love that GF options are clearly marked on the menu. And that the options include more than just a salad and even include dessert! I informed my server of my gluten intolerance and he made a note of it and asked me if cross contamination would be an issue. I told him yes, so I would appreciate it if they could try to minimize that. As my food came out, I was told that they took precautions with my meal. It's so nice when a restaurant shows they actually care! I had the house salad, shrimp & grits, and then creme brule for dessert. Everything tasted incredible! And I didn't get sick. I highly recommend this place!

The turtle soup was delicious, but could have used a little spice. Our second dish was shrimp and grits. The grits are delicious, but the shrimp tasted weird... the creme brûlée and chocolate cake are the bomb! My husband said the bread pudding was so good but not GF.

Went for thanksgiving day lunch. Very accommodating for gluten intolerance. Had coffee brined roasted duck with grits with red eye gravy and broccoli. Nice experience and wonderful ambiance. There was a special holiday menu so I don’t know what normal offerings would be. Items weren’t marked GF but waitress asked chef about accommodations.
I gently mentioned to our server that I was Celiac and that my husband was not. She explained that I should in no way, shape or form dine with them. She went on to explain those with Nima sensors had a fit when attempting to dine, as just the air set the sensors off. (I have not used a Nima sensor and remain suspect of their accuracy.) She further explained that because they baked all of their bread in house, which the majority of "nice" restaurants do, gluten is most often aerosolized. (Hence the Nima sensors having a heyday.) My husband offered that we leave. I insisted he have a quick bite (he was famished). Bread (that was apparently so delicious, he had a visceral response) was placed on his side of the table and a small plate of goat cheese stuffed crepes were soon in front of him. (I don't believe he actually chewed.) Their bar did have Titos. I settled on a martini and was incredibly mad at myself for, again, not researching and vetting establishments. Any perceived vitrol was most definitely not aimed at you, but instead a warning, should anyone blindly trust without verification. Standards within establishments can change as easily as the wind. We have witnessed it within our own state. I was very appreciative our initial waitperson was honest with us. She could have just as easily served me and hoped any possible reaction would be long past our departure. I wasn't as thrilled with our other waitperson, as there was a strong vibe of "oh look at the gluten free martyr". (I despise this.)
This place was delicious! They had hreat gluten free options! Staff was very knowledgeable and they do have a gluten free menu!

GLUTEN FREE Review
Muriel’s was fantastic!
Once we arrived and got seated, I asked for the gf menu and was presented with it. (Photo attached) They have some many options and they are so good. I couldn’t decide between the pork chops
Or the shrimp and grits (both gf!)— so i got one and my husband got the other!!
With normal meals, the offer a 3 course dinner for $42 per person. They don’t have that availability listed on the gf menu, but they are happy to do it!
I started out with the Muriel’s house salad. It’s presented well and is very tasty. The fresh parmesan on top was perfect.
I moved on to the Double cut pork chops. The meat was perfect and tender— very flavorful. I wasn’t as big of a fan f the potatoes and greens that come with it, but there was nothing bad.
Next time, I will order the shrimp and grits. Phenomenal. So creamy and delectable and a great portion!
For dessert was creek brûlée 💛 my favorite dessert and their vanilla bean one did not disappoint.
(My husband had their goat cheese crepes when I had the salad. (Crepes are not gf!!) and he was very pleased and cannot wait to have them again.)
We were waited on by Derek & Tiffany. They were wonderful waiters, making conversation and fun with us!
We will definitely be back soon!

I asked the hostess about their GF menu and was given the usual warning about the possibility of cross contamination. The waitress was so knowledgeable and asked the chef about items not on the GF menu. I has shrimp creole and it was fabulous! I’ll be coming back soon!

This is our fifth trip to New Orleans and I have eaten at Muriel’s at least 15 times without a problem. They have a separate gluten free menu with several options available and their daily soup special is typically gluten free. Service is food knowledgeable and attentive regarding celiac and make you feel at ease. The roast chicken, shrimp with herbsaint cream, and the crime brûlée are favorites. Highly recommend.

Upon entering the restaurant I told the hostess I have celiacs disease. She politely informed me the kitchen staff wouldn’t be changing gloves or doing anything special. So far not looking good. I ordered the vegetable curry and a salad off the gluten free menu. They bring things out on special plates with a red ring to indicate gluten free so they do have a system in place. My salad arrived without croutons so that was a plus. However, upon returning from the bar later, my veggie curry was in a nice red ringed bowl, flanked by 3 pieces of garlic toast. WTF?? I took the curry bowl off the plate and my wife told the waitress I couldn’t have the bread so she yanked that away. I told the manager that the gf items should not come with gluten (bread) and he agreed. It’s too bad b/c I ate here last year and everyone was very cautious and seemed genuinely concerned about keeping things gf. Maybe management changed but this year was a lousy experience for me. It seems like gf is not a big concern for them anymore. I had an rsvp for the next night but I canceled that and won’t be going back.
