GLUTEN FREE Review Muriel’s was fantastic! Once we arrived and got seated, I asked for the gf menu and was presented with it. (Photo attached) They have some many options and they are so good. I couldn’t decide between the pork chops Or the shrimp and grits (both gf!)— so i got one and my husband got the other!! With normal meals, the offer a 3 course dinner for $42 per person. They don’t have that availability listed on the gf menu, but they are happy to do it! I started out with the Muriel’s house salad. It’s presented well and is very tasty. The fresh parmesan on top was perfect. I moved on to the Double cut pork chops. The meat was perfect and tender— very flavorful. I wasn’t as big of a fan f the potatoes and greens that come with it, but there was nothing bad. Next time, I will order the shrimp and grits. Phenomenal. So creamy and delectable and a great portion! For dessert was creek brûlée 💛 my favorite dessert and their vanilla bean one did not disappoint. (My husband had their goat cheese crepes when I had the salad. (Crepes are not gf!!) and he was very pleased and cannot wait to have them again.) We were waited on by Derek & Tiffany. They were wonderful waiters, making conversation and fun with us! We will definitely be back soon!
I asked the hostess about their GF menu and was given the usual warning about the possibility of cross contamination. The waitress was so knowledgeable and asked the chef about items not on the GF menu. I has shrimp creole and it was fabulous! I’ll be coming back soon!
This is our fifth trip to New Orleans and I have eaten at Muriel’s at least 15 times without a problem. They have a separate gluten free menu with several options available and their daily soup special is typically gluten free. Service is food knowledgeable and attentive regarding celiac and make you feel at ease. The roast chicken, shrimp with herbsaint cream, and the crime brûlée are favorites. Highly recommend.
Upon entering the restaurant I told the hostess I have celiacs disease. She politely informed me the kitchen staff wouldn’t be changing gloves or doing anything special. So far not looking good. I ordered the vegetable curry and a salad off the gluten free menu. They bring things out on special plates with a red ring to indicate gluten free so they do have a system in place. My salad arrived without croutons so that was a plus. However, upon returning from the bar later, my veggie curry was in a nice red ringed bowl, flanked by 3 pieces of garlic toast. WTF?? I took the curry bowl off the plate and my wife told the waitress I couldn’t have the bread so she yanked that away. I told the manager that the gf items should not come with gluten (bread) and he agreed. It’s too bad b/c I ate here last year and everyone was very cautious and seemed genuinely concerned about keeping things gf. Maybe management changed but this year was a lousy experience for me. It seems like gf is not a big concern for them anymore. I had an rsvp for the next night but I canceled that and won’t be going back.
Very good food! I got shrimp and grits, a favorite of mine. It was probably the best I’ve ever had. Separate menu, with about a dozen choices. Server seemed knowledgeable and reassured me that they knew how to keep a Celiac meal safe. My meal was served in a bowl with a pattern on it that indicated it was gluten free. Low anxiety about getting glutened here. Pretty pricey, though. We skipped dessert, so I can’t speak to the quality there. But, I did not get sick! Good place to sit and chat among all the craziness that surrounds the French Market!
Muriel's is fantastic! We've eaten lunch there twice, in our short time in NOLA. Headed for a third time this evening for dinner. They've accommodated my wife's (gluten, soy, dairy, yeast, sugar/added sweetner) needs with blackened fish, both were amazing! Most certainly a good spot.
I will dine here every trip, as i did six years ago, when they were one of the few who had a GF menu. Love love love it!!!!! Had manchego salad, shrimp & grits, and flourless chocolate torte. Delicious, flawless service. Always happy to support restaurants that take allergies seriously.
This restaurant is in a great location and the food is delicious. I had the pork chop with red beans and rice, which was a treat because all the other restaurants put flour in the red beans and rice. They had a gluten-free menu, which makes things easy.
I have celiac disease and, although I brought my own food during Mardi Gras, it wasn't very substantial so I wanted real food. Other reviewers recommended Muriel's so I risked it out of frustration for real food. Turns out, I did not get sick at all, and I'm super sensitive! One time I touched a friend's cell phone at my house, then ate a grape, and then had a celiac response. From her phone! So if I didn't get sick at Muriel's, they know what they are doing! And our server Heather was very nice about it, no attitude the way some do and was very conscientious of my options. Best creme brûlée ever!!! And my fish was fantastic. Wonderful restaurant. My companions all enjoyed their meals too. Pricy, but at least it was worth it!
Gluten free menu. Waiter said owner has family with Celiac and started providing GF dishes. Waiter said staff is aware of cross contamination and changes gloves, utensils, etc. GF orders on special plates. I had a prosciutto salad for lunch. Very good. Went back for dinner next day. Same great service. Ordered pork chop and flourless chocolate cake. Very tasty.
Gluten free menu and they will walk you through items on their menu which can be made gluten free. The staff was so confident in telling me what could be made gluten free, I worried at first. One of the dishes was a soup with pasta added in it. I was very skeptical and she went back to double checked. The pasta was added after the fact and could be left out. The food was delicious and no cross contamination.
I enjoyed a wonderful meal here. I had the pork chop with sweet potatoes and greens. It has the New Orleans taste to it. I had made a reservation online and put in the comments I needed a gluten free meal for Celiac disease. When we got there I didn't even have to ask for a gluten green menu. They brought mine along with the others. The waitress was very eager to help me. And she also recommended the creme brûlée or the flourless chocolate cake. I chose the creme brûlée and it was great! We will go back the next time we go to New Orleans. I will tell you it's a little pricy but definitely worth it.
I have celiac and ordered the salad, Shrimp and Grits, and the creme brûlée. The salad was delicious, S&G's was outstanding, and the creme brûlée was good. I seriously wanted to lick my shrimp and grits plate clean because the sauce was so good! Highly recommend.
Great place for GF. Separate menu, great and knowledgable staff. 4 GF entrees, appetizers, salads, and sweets! The regular menu is small too. Was here a few years back and glad I returned! The chef changes up the menu so it's not always the same thing.
Muriels is celiac friendly. They have a gluten free menu. (I am always skeptical of gluten free menus because I don't trust them). The slightest gluten will cause me problems. I ordered the gulf fish entree and creme brûlée for dessert and had no issues after eating dinner. The dinner was AMAZING and truly gluten free. Hats off to Muriels!! I will go back! CELIAC FRIENDLY and TRULY gluten free for us celiacs! Yay :)
