The menu had gluten-free items marked, including the option for rice noodles for ramen. The server pointed out three of the ramens that were gluten-free, but when I asked if the rice noodles were cooked in the same water as the wheat ones, he said yes. So I was a bit bummed, because I really was craving ramen. I opted for the tuna capriccio, which was marked gluten-free and it was delicious.

It used to be that half the ramen options could be made gluten free, but I was told that as of a few weeks ago only the Veggiemen could be made gluten free. Loved this place as a gluten free ramen spot, but very disappointed to see only one option here now!

They initially told me half the ramen options could be GF, as long as I subbed out the pork belly for another meat. Then, after I put in my order, they came back to tell me actually all the meats were marinated in soy sauce and all I could have is the veggie ramen. More conversation about the cross continuation ultimately made me reluctant to dine here.
Great ramen with large portions! I went here with my boyfriend who has celiac disease and he had multiple ramen options to choose from. Our server understood his situtaion with cross contact and his ramen came out with a GF marker! He was a happy camper and didn't have any reaction.

I am updating my review. They have taken many things that were previously gluten free and made them with gluten now. They have eliminated the fried chicken for the ramen (there is already a very limited selection of meats). And they cannot guarantee some broths to be gluten free anymore. LIKE WHY?!! Ramen options are stupid limited now :(

I had the veggie ramen bowl - it was delicious. Unfortunately, I ended up with food poisoning. It was not my standard gluten symptoms and I was violently ill - and had not consumed anything else that evening
This place got such good reviews too :(

Knowledgeable staff, gluten friendly options including broth, noodles and rice dish (must ask which broths are gf as it is not marked, staff knew though). VERY large portions and excellent food!

Staff was very knowledgeable and asked if was a true allergy. Greatly appreciated that he asked and was aware of changes that needed to be made to a dish that we ordered. Will definitely come back

I have celiac (though have gotten slightly less symptomatic over the years). I’ve been here twice, and I felt confident that my food was gluten free and enjoyed it both times. I have never gotten sick from here. They can make 3 different dishes gluten free as far as I remember (Oiiman with substituted meat, Chicmen, and the vegetarian one). Haven’t tried vegetarian but the other two are good. The second time I went, the waiter originally said only one type was gluten free, but when I asked and mentioned that the last time I was there I had gotten something else gluten free, he confirmed it was and he had forgotten, that is why I only put 4 stars for safety.

This place went above and beyond my expectations. So delicious and very knowledgeable about celiac. Got the vegan and gf ramen—soooo good! Huge portions though! Did not get sick.

Stopped here for lunch. Was told that only the veggie broth was gluten free so I ordered the veggimen ramen with gluten free rice noodles and beef brisket added to it. I was really happy that there was a GF marker in my bowl when it came to the table. I was shocked at how big the bowl the was. For me, it was enough for 2 full meals. The leftovers heated up on the stove were just as good as the day of. Did not get sick - would definitely come back

I ate here twice and am very pleased! I have celiac and DH (BLISTERY RASH) and haven't had a reaction from either time. #6 with beef brisket and then #6 with fried chicken (gf with separate fryer). Personally I enjoyed the beef brisket better. Highly recommend.

Waiter was extremely helpful in letting me know what I could and could not have in my ramen with my gluten intolerance. They even have gluten free beer on the menu!

Chadolmen Ranen with gf noodles is AMAZING. I get this regularly and it’s the best bowl of soup ever, never gotten sick

I felt confident going here because of reviews that I had read and the waiter answered my questions about what was gf. Ordered the #7 with gf noodles, but I did get sick.

I’m vegetarian and celiac and this place had a dish. Seemed fine. Everyone was knowledgeable. Even told me a specific hot sauce I shouldn’t have.

Best ramen in Chicago! The chadolmen modern ramen only needs rice noodles substituted and is delicious. The other ramen dishes can be modified to be gf too but they might need to switch out meats - the pork belly is not gf. They also add a little wooden marker w. a gf stamp so you can be assured you’re getting the correct ramen! Highly recommend.

Every time I go here they tell me different ingredients have gluten. It’s real concerning...
I get the GF Veggiemon - the gf subs they make are: no tree ear mushrooms; gf noodles; veggie broth. I never get sick with this order (I’m pretty sensitive) and it’s sooo freaking good. They once accidentally gave me regular noodles instead of GF (luckily I suspected before eating - the noodles looked curlier and darker than I remembered), so now I always open my carry out to check that the noodles are the pale, sad-looking gf noodles. Only bummer is that they’re closed on Mondays and I often want it on Mondays.

Good food, but got cross-contaminated.

Staff was knowledgeable about the gluten free options on the menu and didn’t need to go and ask. Didn’t feel like I was sacrificing anything even despite needing to get the rice noodle ramen.
Yes
Staff was knowledgeable of Celiac needs. I’ve eaten here prior to diagnosis and loved it. Pork belly, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms were off limits. Sake was OK though. Specify which one prior to ordering though. I had the unfiltered nigori. Plenty of food and delicious. Can’t wait to return.

Oiistar was great! They have GF ramen dishes (rice noodles) as well as appetizers, beer and dessert. They were careful and very helpful. Best of all the food was great. Japanese food is my favorite so I was so excited to find some I can actually eat!
Yes
GF noodle option, GF beer, and plenty of other options!
Wonderful options for gluten free!!
Great food and huge ramen portions! The server was really friendly and knowledgeable. Some of the ramen ingredients are not gf because they are marinated in soy sauce (like the pork belly, mushrooms, bamboo shoots), but they are able to make substitutions or point out the ramen options that are naturally gf. They can make the buns gf by putting the contents on rice instead of on a bun. I loved the duck breast bun served on rice. So good! Will definitely return!
Wahoo gluten free ramen!! This place is a godsend, as we thought ramen would be off the table for us forever. And it's great ramen too-- more "fusion" than authentic I'd say, but we're totally down with that.
Yes
The best place in Chicago for gf ramen. Staff is very knowledgeable in all ingredients.
Yummy ramen. Knowledgeable staff.
