From the outside you will think it’s an old hole in the wall, but walk upstairs and you are greeted by simple elegance, serenity and hospitality. Our waitress was most helpful and knowledgeable about gluten and also about explaining dishes. The honey glazed prawns are extraordinary and the Oriental Pearl Fried Rice is tasty and fresh. Highly recommend. In the heart of San Francisco’s historic Chinatown and authentic Chinese food that is safe for us! Almost felt too good to be true.
Staff were very knowledgeable. Waitress walked me through what I could have without any hesitation. Plenty to choose from including dumplings and noodle dishes. You just have to stay away from beef and pork dishes due to marination. But there are plenty of seafood, chicken and veggie dishes that are gluten free or can be made gluten free.
Delicious authentic Chinese in Chinatown!! The owner came over and suggested 4 dishes which we ordered. We had the chicken with mushrooms, chicken with cashews, chicken fried rice and a rice noodle dish with curry. All very very good!! I usually carry gf soy sauce packs but didn’t. Would have been nice on the fried rice but otherwise loved it all!
This is the first time that I’ve had authentic Chinese food in years! There were many gluten free choices, and the staff was very knowledgeable. My only suggestion would be that the restaurant offer gluten free soy sauce. Much of the food was tasty, but needed salt!
Many menu items can be made GF. I believe we had one of the owners taking our orders, and she seemed relatively knowledgeable about the options, or what could be adjusted. We all loved our food, the only negative was that oddly, one of our dishes came out so late, everyone else was finished eating. 3 celiacs in our party, and no one felt ill afterwards.
This was a delicious family-style dinner. There are a number of options (authentic, substantial options), and the whole staff is super knowledgeable about their dishes and ingredients. So sad I’m only here a few days or I’d be here weekly! Recommend the prawns with honey glazed walnuts and salty cod with veggies. So. Good!!
Cashew chicken and rice were very good, and my portion was big enough for two meals. The manager took our orders. When I said I had to eat GF, she asked 1) Can you eat MSG? and 2) Can you eat corn starch? Then she recommended several dishes for me to choose from. Great experience.
Thanks to this app, we just had an AMAZING meal at Oriental Pearl! I took your advice and got the veggie dumplings, Singapore noodles, veggie rice, and OMG prawn with walnuts. Best meal of the trip to SF. Thank you FMGF!!! (Note: I was advised that the black bean sauce was not GF so be careful.)
No separate GF menu but server walked through the menu. Inside much nicer than outside would lead you to believe. Only gave 3 stars because food was safe to eat but not that flavorful. Chicken and noodle dish was GF because it was made without the sauce. Would be nice if they had GF soy sauce.
They were extremely helpful and offered many suggestions.. the dishes were flavorful and the service was wonderful.. The atmosphere was relaxing with modern clean lines and subtle colors..I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.. excellent choice..
What a pleasant surprise to find this place in Chinatown! While they did not have a gluten-free menu the staff was extremely knowledgeable and went over everything on the menu that was naturally gluten-free. I was very happy with the number of choices while the staff also said they could accommodate me on some of the other items as well. The food was excellent and I will definitely be coming back!
BEST GF option in Chinatown!! Amazing wait staff who is very accommodating and knowledgeable. The menu is not labeled but many dishes are already gluten free and if not can be altered. We were told to stay away from the beef and pork for they are pre-marinated in soy sauce. I was able to have amazing vegetable dumplings (they also have shrimp) wrapped in rice paper, prawns in a honey walnut glaze (10/10...taste just like Mr. Chow) and Chicken Chow Fun with a black bean sauce (rice noodles of course) which was out of this world. I cannot rave about this enough. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurants for anyone with Celiac disease and ask for Rebecca she's amazing and incredibly helpful.
