We chose this restaurant based on the reviews I found on here. I would say this is a so-so place for Gluten free. They do have a very limited menu for gluten free. I was bummed to see that they listed French fries as gluten-free but they’re in the same fryer as all the rest of the stuff. So definitely not safe for Celiacs. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp for an appetizer and you make your own sauce at the table. At the table they have horseradish, Worcestershire sauce (French’s which I had to google and it is gluten free) and ketchup. For the main entree I ordered the blackened shrimp with cheese grits and coleslaw for the side. It was all delicious. Our waitress lacked any knowledge on gluten free. I did not have any reactions to any of it.
I was very surprised to find that this establishment of so many fried things had a gluten free menu! This is an old family favorite of ours when on vacation, so I was happy to return.
I got grilled fish (Mahi mahi), a baked potato, and the salad bar. I would rate the food as average to above average. I would have liked some more topings on the potato to give it more flavor.
Overall, the service was great, everyone at the table had a good meal, and I got to return to a family favorite place. Good option for the whole family to be happy if you are traveling through!
If during busy Summer months, always factor in at least an hour and a half wait, if not longer.
Ordered takeout and they answered all of my questions for gf. Menu says to order fries without seasoning but they do not have a dedicated fryer so ended up getting grilled tuna and shrimp, loaded potato and slaw. Also got the Rockefeller oysters, it was all delicious! Will definitely be back!
My friend and I ordered side salads without croutons. The waitress stated the salads were pre-made so they already had croutons on them, but said the kitchen could make us fresh salads without croutons to avoid cross contamination. That didn’t happen. We found crumbs from the croutons on our salad (after it was too late). We both got sick. They clearly had just taken the croutons off of the pre-made salads.
There was a decent selection of gluten free food.
Waitress was quite rude and did not seem to care about us having celiac.
I have loved The Oyster House for the many years that my family has come here on vacation. Now having Celiac disease, it was refreshing to find that they have a pre-made gluten free menu with lots of great choices. I would avoid fried food, due to the risk of cross contamination in the fryer, but everything else here is simply wonderful!
This establishment was great! 👍🏻 The staff was somewhat familiar with gluten free options. They had a dedicated gf menu. Some of the things to offer was the following: Catch of the day, Regular Shrimp, Shrimp and Grits, Butter Pecan Mahi, Coleslaw, Salad Bar, Baked Potato, Turnip Greens. There were other items on the list, but they slip my mind. I had blackened shrimp and grits with a side of extra grits and the salad bar. Amazing! I did not get a reaction and the food tasted great! Very friendly staff! DOES NOT HAVE A DEDICATED FRYER FOR THE FRIES, even though they say they are gluten free😔
