Outstanding ribs & beans. Didn’t have BBQ sauce. Forgot to ask if GF. Otherwise I was safe & had no issues. They changed gloves when handling my food.

Menu not labeled for GF but cashier was very knowledgeable and cross-referenced the allergen chart to confirm. Kitchen ticket was also marked for allergy. NOTE: I didn’t order ribs but my group did. They are served over bread so if you get the ribs make sure to be aware of that and discuss cross contact when ordering.

If I could eat Pappy’s baked beans every day of my life for every meal, I would. I don’t usually like baked beans, but these changed my mind. Of course, the meat is amazing as well, especially the turkey and brisket. Almost everything is GF, except sides that are fried and the sauce on the burnt ends. When I called to order, the person who answered was extremely knowledgable and walked me through all of the Celiac-safe options.

Delicious food! Staff was very knowledgeable about celiac disease and diligent about safety. Our hostess even immediately switched out all the BBQ bottles on our table for new ones without us even asking—just in case they had been contaminated. We were informed of each safe item on the menu. Service was quick and friendly. It was a great experience!

Staff was knowledgeable about what was gluten free on the menu. Got pulled pork with applesauce and potato salad and everything was so delicious. Remember to ask for no bread on your plate. I also asked for a bottle of the sweet sauce from the back to avoid bottles that have touched buns and they didn't mind doing that for me. Just plan ahead because there's often a line and they do run out of food towards the end of the day. Thankfully, even when they're busy, they make me feel confident that they can keep me safe.

The food was amazing. Definitely make it super clear you cant have gluten. Entrees come w bread so say you dont want it. We had ribs and brisket. The sweet sauce is gluten free - original is not. For sides we had slaw, baked beans, green beans and apple sauce. Did not get sick! Loved it so much we bought a shirt

Called ahead to ask how they handle allergies. Was told what I can and what to stay away from. I am celiac with a dairy allergy as well. Told the ladies placing the order. Ordered the brisket, no bread, naked potato, brought my own margarine, and baked beans. Every thing was delicious. I did not get sick.

Their gluten free is good. Note - NOT ALL SIDES ARE GLUTEN FREE. The fryer is neither gluten free nor dedicated, so anything fried is not safe. I got brisket. I didn't get sick. So that's good. I have no doubts they can handle gluten free. However, their food was not that amazing. For the other reviews both in here an other places, I expected some really great BBQ, not to be honest, we were impressed. The brisket was bland and the ribs were ok. The pulled pork was her favorite of the three, but none of them were anything we'd rave about. We go back for variety, but that'd be about it. My 5 stars is for safety, not for my review of their food.

Pappy’s was some of the best BBQ we’ve ever had. I asked about it being safe for our daughter who has celiac and they reassured me that they would take extra precautions in making sure it was handled safely. The food was phenomenal. We got the ribs, pulled pork, turkey, potato salad, and baked beans. The sweet BBQ sauce is GF, but the original is not. Our daughter (celiac) ate without setting sick and I did as well (I am just gluten sensitive). We will most definitely visit again when we are in the St. Louis area.

Their website now says this:
Gluten:
We are very gluten friendly and can accommodate most allergen issues. All of our meats are gluten free except our Burnt Ends. All of our sides are gluten free. Our Sweet Baby Jane Sauce and Carolina Vinegar are gluten free.

Staff was amazing!! She was very knowledgeable about celiac disease. The sweet potato fries and corn are not gluten free. If you get the platter, they serve the meat on top of bread. Very good!!
Hands down the best ribs I have ever had. I came late enough in the afternoon that they were not busy. They changed their gloves and were careful with cross-contamination. Everyone I talked to seemed knowledgeable about gluten. The cashier told me that the sweet barbecue sauce is gluten free. I hope she was right. But the ribs were good enough without the sauce.
I ordered the ribs with coleslaw and beans for dinner last night. It was delicious. I think I ate too much because I’m still full this morning. I’m not confident how they did on the cross-contamination front only because they were SO busy. If you’re not sure, I’d go off peak hours so they’re not as rushed and can take the time to accommodate special requests. Yep. I got sick. Guess that wasn’t me eating too much.
No
It was great. Basically everything is GF except burnt ends and anything fried. They use some sort of oil blend that contains gluten. I would highly recommend their fried items for your non-GF friends. I had them before I found out I was sensitive and they're great!
Yes
I told them I had a gluten allergy at the counter. My tray came out with bread crumbs in the basket where they clearly had placed the bread that goes under the meat but then removed it. So while there was no bread served to me, my meat had been placed on an obvious pile of white bread crumbs. They were nice and replaced my meal but I can not give them a good rating if they are going to think that was acceptable when someone says they have a food allergy.
The food is good and it might be alright if you aren't celiac or super sensitive. We ordered carry out for a birthday party, followed their instruction on what to order, and had to instruct them to be sure to change gloves during preparation. The food was delicious but my son and I both got sick. I was sad to have to toss the leftovers!

Make sure to ask for no bread. Talked to the girl about gf options for a minute but I'm not sure she knew to take off the bread. Food was great though:

Awesome place and very helpful! will definitely return!!
This place was delicious and the staff was knowledgeable about which food was gluten free and how to avoid cross contamination. The food was running out when we were there at 5:30 p.m. with a very long line. So much to eat - most of the sides (anything not in the fryer) and the meat (except the burnt ends) are all gluten free. Will definitely return if in the area.
Yes
Fantastic food! The staff is very knowledgable and helpful! All meat except burnt ends is GF. Most sides are GF too. The original sauce is not GF but they have two options that are! Great place!! Go early the line forms before they open and they often sell out!
Very helpful staff. Delicious GF options and sauce!!
The staff was very knowledgeable about Gluten. All their meats are Gluten Free except Burnt Ends. Also the only two sauces that are Gluten Free are Spicy and Sweet. Also I was told that the Roasted Corn was the only Gluten side. I would double check with them on that. Overall it's an excellent place!
1st things 1st... The food here is incredible!
The staff at pappys was incredibly responsive to me when I let them know I have a serious allergy and needed their help ordering.
The staff immediately changed their gloves and set up a safer area to prep my food. They also steered me away from things I couldn't have (burnt bits, fries, and fried corn) as well as let me know that their sweet sauce and spicy sauces are the only two that are gluten free. (Original is NOT gluten free!!!!)
They were super careful, and didn't for one second make me feel like a pain for asking.
I did however, have a small reaction. :-(
So if you have celiacs, this is probably not the place for you.
No
The dry rub on all the meats are gluten free. The original bbq sauce is gluten free. All sides, except for fried corn, is gluten free.. Sauces are on the table and self-applied.Just request they don't put bread on your plate. Staff is aware of allergies and very friendly. Great BBQ and no reactions!!
