great place to avoid cross contamination. workers were knowledgeable and all changed their gloves and used separate utensils.
Great Gluten Free crust! Staff takes great precautions to avoid cross contamination. I'm just Gluten Intolerant but they treat everyone like they have celiac, which is wonderful. Definitely celiac friendly place!
exceptional service! !! the took all ingredients from fresh bins and we're extremely careful about cross-contamination
Hi! Gogo here! I am a severe celiac and have never gotten sick here. Separate utensils and no cross contamination has happened while I have been here. Smart staff! Cool atmosphere. Do not eat the magic dust as it has gluten as a staff member told me and my party. Awesome place to grab some food in the area! Hope this was an informative review!
We used this app to find Pie Five Pizza. I ate gluten free, hubby ate regular. I really liked the option to add toppings that you wanted for one flat price. When I ordered GF the pizza maker took off his gloves and out on new ones. The GF thin crust was individually wrapped and put on a mesh pan. The regular crusts were in traditional pizza pans. Both of us likes our pizzas. Husband thought his could be hotter.
I walked into this location to scope it out before making a decision to eat there. While they switch out utensils, change their gloves Etc. They prepare the pizza on the same line. They may be gluten-free friendly, it does not appear to be Celiac friendly.
The best GF pizza in town! They know what they're doing as far as cross contamination. Separate utensils, washed hands, changed gloves...full confidence all staff was properly trained.
They wash hands, change gloves, and do great with avoiding cross contamination when transitioning to making a gluten free pizza. I have never had a negative reaction. Join the circle of crust club and earn points from each purchase. These points accumulate and result in you earning a free pizza. The prices are very reasonable! you can watch them make your pizza. It is set up like a subway for pizza. They prepare it in a line before your eyes. super fast and super affordable.
Gluten free crust! And every person who had anything to do with my pizza washed their hands, changed gloves, and used a new work space! They have gourmet pizza toppings too!!!
The staff is knowledgeable and takes care to avoid cross contamination. During my first visit we sat down to wait for our pizzas and when they brought my daughter’s they apologized and said they had to remake mine. They had accidentally cut it with the regular pizza cutter so they were making me a new one. It’s nice when a place doesn’t have to be told you need it remade. They just did it and apologized profusely. I’ve been back a few times since and it’s been awesome each time!
I have Celiac and my two boys have a gluten sensitivity. We all got the tummy grumbles and bathroom troubles after our visit here despite me asking for fresh sauce and new utensils. Perhaps the cheese or pepperoni was already contaminated by contact? The GF cauliflower crust tastes great! And it’s probably great for folks who don’t have an autoimmune reaction to gluten, but our family can’t risk going here anymore.
Salads are celiac safe, but even the gluten free pizza is not. They use the same sauce and toppings from the line which it’s a great risk for cross contamination. But if you are thy sensitive it’s great. They cook gf pizza alone in the oven and alert all staff that it’s gf
If you ASK they will change gloves, get the sand which fixings from a new container and use a different slicing machine that is away from all bread crumbs etc. I also go during off times bc I know it would be pretty hard during lunch or dinner rush. I didn’t get sick but I had to do a lot of asking this the 4 stars instead of 5
I have Non-celiac gluten sensitivity. I can eat here without issue. They do wipe down the counter and change gloves BUT cheeses, toppings and sauces are all shared/cc. I will not feed it to my celiac child. Their food is good and the manager/staff is very nice. Recommend if avoiding gluten but 100% not celiac friendly.
I LOVE this place. Their pizza is amazing. The gluten free crust is one of the best I’ve ever had because it actually has flavor to it. They have so many different toppings to choose from, including vegan cheese, and if you tell them you’re Celiac they will use gloves to avoid cross-contamination when preparing your pizza. Gluten free crust is cooked and given to you on a foil pan and then put into a pizza box to avoid cross contamination that way as well.
Gluten free handling practices are great! The moment I said gluten free, the employee changed his gloves and got out a different tray for the crust. The crust is prepackaged. They used a squirt bottle full of pizza sauce instead of using the bowl of sauce used on regular pizzas. Used separate tools to spread the sauce. The pizza is boxed in a separate area from the other pizzas. The pizza was good, but not great. The toppings are excellent, but the crust was a little limp.
Terrible customer service for ordering takeout. Didn't give a price, had to repeat myself multiple times, didn't tell me when it would be ready, didn't ask for a name, and didn't hang up the phone so we heard disgusting language/fighting. Then tried to call back to cancel twice and phone was still not hung up.
all staff take great care not to cross contaminate.
Even though the staff is very knowledgeable about cross contamination, there are a few issues with their system. For example, they change the spoon for a new and sanitized one, but they use the same sauce that they put the contaminated ones in. Other than that, they are perfectly fine.
NOT Celiac's friendly with the pizza making process. They use the same ladles to dip and spread the sauce for their GF as they do with their regular pizzas. There is also chance for contamination with putting on the toppings and the baking of the pizza. I ended up eating a salad instead of the pizza.
They have a gluten free crust and change gloves but they use the same sauce, ladel, and toppings and they don't make it separately so cc is HIGH here even with changing gloves. It's pointless. I got here with friends and then couldn't eat safely.
We are new to CLT and wanted to find pizza that I can eat. The staff here was very knowledgeable and helpful. Pizza was good.
Offer a GF crust, use seperate utensils and separate container of marinara. Baked it on a tray and cut it on a dedicated GF cutting board. Staff was friendly and accommodating despite my many questions. Pizza crust was ok... a bit like cardboard, but was grateful for their accommodations.
The staff is so friendly and courteous. They always change gloves and wash hands without hesitation. I've pretty sensitive and have never gotten sick. I eat here often. I think their crust is the best I've tried. And it doesn't contain soy which is another one of my triggers.
Only reason I'm willing to give 1 star is I think I have to, haha, and because they do offer GF crust. They attempted to be safe with our food but they were not at all. I watched in disbelief as they used the same utensils as the lady in front of us used on the regular crust. We aren't celiac so I didn't make a big deal about it but would have walked out if I was. The lady brought over to fix our order was completely annoyed by us. We felt an inch tall by the time we were finished.
Although they have GF crust and it's cooked on its own pan LOTS of cross contamination. First unlike Pieology (they use a squirt bottle of sauce not contaminated ) pie five pizza used a ladle (that was sitting in sauce ) to get sauce onto pie that I saw them use to spread sauce on dough of the customer before me. The girl was good about changing gloves but reached into the same toppings they all used with their gloves that had touched other dough. If you are super sensitive do not go here. We are not super sensitive but my sister would've gotten violently ill with their process. Pizza tasted great otherwise that is why I gave it two stars.
The gluten free pizza tastes good. I got the olive oil and garlic base and was told it is probably the safest for people are very sensitive to gluten. I did not get sick. The price is high for the size. Cost was the only downside; however, I will likely go again sometime.
This establishment doesn't understand gluten allergy. They use the same brush to oil gf and non-gf pizza, have and couldn't give us any gf toppings because they said everything had been contaminated. Having a gluten free crust doesn't do any good if it's not handled properly and no toppings are safe.
All Pie Fives I have visited use the same products that have been used on regular pizzas, cross contaminating any GF pizza. They do not have sepetate non-contaminated choices for Celiacs. They use regular utnsils that have touched gluten producs on the products to add to the pizza contaminating the products. Then they claim to be GF by using a new utensil and gf crust but the items, like the sauce, are already contaminated. My daughter and I kept getting sick from these restaurants until we figured out where the cross contamination occured.
Delicious gluten free pizza! The crust is nice and crispy. I have eaten at Pie Five several times and I have never gotten sick. Staff members have been trained in gf preparation. Be sure to remind them to get your sauce from a new pan in the back since the ladle touches the other pizza crusts. You might want to sign up for their rewards program, because you'll definitely keep going back for more!
I took a chance on this place considering I have Celiac and there's the risk of contamination but the employee changed gloves and utensils the moment I asked for gluten free, and called out that there was an allergen free request on the line. the crust was the best out there too!
