Awesome! Over half their menu is gluten free. I got the bacon deluxe cheeseburger on a gluten free bun (which was actually good, not like some gf buns lol), the Parmesan and sweet potato fries, and a hard cider to drink that was canned. I also got a flourless chocolate cake with vanilla mousse for dessert. Would definitely recommend!
They specialize in bourbon, beer and burgers. I went for the burger. I had the cheese bacon deluxe on gf bread. I was worried because the bun was toasted but there was no issue and it was a great bun. I also had the tater tots (dedicated fryer) and they were good as well.
We ate here for lunch today in DC. Based on the reviews I expected this place to be amazing. It almost lived up to my expectations. I had a Porker burger (GF) and my wife had the Tavern (not GF). I also ordered the Jalapeño Poppers, Onion Rings, and my wife got the fries. The Poppers were wonderful, fries were great, and burgers were amazing. The O-rings were just ok. My stomach usually hurts from eating beef but not from lunch today. We’ll be back and can’t wait to try some other items here. I’d recommend it to anyone who asked.
I had a great experience! I asked to speak to the manager upon arriving and she was very accomodating and answered all of my questions as I also have a peanut and treenut allergy. She even took pictures of the ingredients of the breading they use and the gf buns (Udi's)! Server was also made aware of my allergies and was very accomodating. Dedicated fryer for fries, gf onion rings, and gf chicken fingers. All delicious! Majority of menu items are gluten free. They use rice flour for all of their fried items. Burger was amazing and cooked in a separate place to ensure that cross contamination did not occur. Udi's bun was toasted in dedicated toaster and did not fall apart! I can tell they were very careful while making my appetizer of chicken fingers and my meal of a cheeseburger and fries. If you are in DC, I definitely recommend you try this place. Will be returning my next visit to DC.
Several GF options. I had jalapeño poppers appetizer which was great, very spicy!! Had cheeseburger with GF bun, bun was lovely looking and tasted fine but as with many GF buns just doesn’t hold up to lettuce, pickles etc and fell apart quickly. Next time I’ll just do lettuce wrap burger. Their fries are GF, yumm!!
Great Food! Cozy atmosphere! Staff was very knowledgable and very friendly! The food is great normal American food, not the organic health food type stuff. Great for those with celiac that want a great burger and fries, breaded chicken nuggets or fish and chips! Awesome place to eat!
It was absolutely fantabulous! The staff is super knowledgeable and they have SO MANY options! They don’t cross-contaminate and have dedicated space in the kitchen just for gf foods. Their portions are large and filling (even there kids meals that I had was a lot). HIGHLY recommend to all celiacs
Celiac safe! My daughter has celiac and I don’t but I happened to also order a gluten free meal and when I asked if my daughter could taste mine the waitress said that probably not as she hadn’t noted that mine should be celiac safe and she couldn’t guarantee that whoever prepared my meal would have changed gloves for my meal. Love it!!!! Bonus-the food was delicious!!!!!
Staff was knowledgeable & friendly, said they often did gluten free foods. I had a turkey club burger & sweet potato fries. I believe the burger was on an Udi’s bun. I came back & had fish & chips, fish tested safe with Nima! Amazing food & I did not get sick either time :)
DO NOT EAT HERE if you are a celiac. My wife ordered a gf salad and it came with bread on it. When we informed the waitress that bread is gluten and that my wife could not have it, the waitress offered to remove the bread. When I mention that my wife was very sensitive and had been in the hospital twice for small bowl obstructions (requiring emergency surgery) the waitress was unapologetic. They finally brought a “new” Salad and 2 hours later the symptoms began and kept my wife in pain for 5 days. Who are the people giving this place 5 stars???
Despite how busy it was, the staff was very knowledgeable and made sure I was comfortable with their food prep. Many tasty menu items were GF, including appetizers and their wings. The food itself was very high quality, and I was stuffed for hours!
This place is the bomb, if you are visiting or plan to visit DC definitely check this place out. It has a relatively central location with good atmosphere and incredibly knowledgeable and friendly waiters. The food was great (and reasonably priced). Would recommend a burger for sure but there’s also tons of other gluten free stuff which is marked in the menu. Definitely a must!!!
Holy Heavens!!!! It is so good, we came here twice in two days. I had the gluten free fish and chips the first day. I kept asking if they were sure it was gluten free because it was so good. Then the next day I had the Tavern burger on the gluten free bun with onion rings. I could have cried over the onion rings. I haven’t had onion rings in soooooooo long. It tasted so good I was so nervous that it couldn’t really be that gluten free but I never got sick and I am really sensitive. Also, the first night we had the gluten free chocolate cake....it was delish 😍
All the 5 star reviews are TRUE! My family visited DC in July and ate here. My 2 kids and I (that are GF) LOVED our food. The staff was amazingly knowledgeable about item that we could have as well as accommodated our requests with ease. :)
Absolutely amazing... They gave me the options and ensured me they have separate fryer and gluten free bread, I ordered Bacon cheese burger and tested it with Nima and came without gluten... My boyfriend tried a piece of my hamburger who is not celiac and said that my burger tasted better than his... So, I was very happy eating something rather than a salad 😊
Fried food for the first time in years! Waitress assured me that all the fryers are dedicated GF because they only use rice flour as a coating. I have Celiacs and always ask a ton of questions (and even then am nervous). Servers were patient and helpful. I couldn't help myself from ordering delicious chicken tenders and onion rings
Absolutely delicious food and lots of options for Celiacs! The server ensured me that they prepare gluten free food in a safe environment. I will definitely eat here again when I visit DC. I did not get sick, awesome environment, walking distance from the mall, and so yummy!
Yummy options, including rare treats for a Celiac! I had a hamburger and fries for the first time in a very long time! They said their fryers are dedicated GF. The staff was nice. Since I ordered to go, the kitchen bill was attached to my order. In capitalized letters at the top was CELIAC, along with Gluten Allergy in red and gluten free in capital letters as part of my order. As a Celiac, I am grateful for this attention to detail and precaution. I’ll definitely be going again!
This is a great place with knowledgeable staff and excellent food. They know what they are doing. Had the blue chips for an app and the Squealer and fries for my meal. Their GF bum is pretty decent. So nice to be able to eat out somewhere and not get sick!
Tasty food and gluten free fryer. Fries, burgers, tots, fish and chips etc. nice to have many options. They know celiacs and regarded us well. Good food, not the healthiest but it is a burger bar. Fresh burgers.
Gluten free is clearly marked on the menu with lots to choose from, and server confirmed it was an allergy and that they would cook everything separately. Separate fryer too, the tots were yummy! Nice outdoor patio to sit in. Overall a great meal!
They do a great job of taking special care and they actually want to be accommodating. Only downside is my son also can’t eat dairy and they use dairy in all their breaded foods which share the same fryer for fries. So he had a burger with a side salad. That was too bad. But all in all, a lot of choices. Especially if dairy is not an issue for you.
Staff was wonderful. Brought manager over with full ingredient lists to confirm no oats also in GF food for another allergy. (Veggie burger has them, FYI — but delicious if you are not allergic!) Food was delicious. GF onion ring batter tastes like Burger King chicken nuggets (in a good way). Strongly recommend.
By far one of the best restaurants I've eaten at since being diagnosed celiac 4 years ago. They had soooo many options. They use rice flours for there breading and have separate fryers. You can have almost anything but there non gf hamburger buns....I had a ground pork burger w tots....food was amazing!!!!
Unfortunately, not all food that is labeled GF is actually GF. Beware of the wings. My sister wasn't notified until after she ate some of them that they weren't GF. Even though both the hostess and waitress were informed of three of the party having celiac. Needless to say, my sister spent the remainder of her birthday extremely uncomfortable and sick to her stomach. Beyond that, the food was good. Fried foods are made with rice flour which is why there are a lot of GF options.
All fried stuff is gf! First time I eat onion rings since my coeliac diagnosis more than 5 years ago. So happy to eat things I thought I would never be able to eat again. Good choice of burger. Also have apple cider.
Amazingly allergy friendly! We are GF and tree nut allergic- almost all of their burgers can be made GF. All of their fries were gf. They even have GF onion rings which were to die for! There are GF appetizers and a gf dessert option as well.
GF friendly, but dairy-free folks note that the onion rings are made with buttermilk. (Sigh) Noisy, so if you want to converse, sit in the section under the low roof. Also beware of the nighttime highway repair this year (2018-19) and take alternate routes after 9 p.m.
I’m celiac and have eaten here safely many times. I get a simple tavern burger (no sauce) in the grass with fries, so I can’t speak to the quality of gf buns but I am confident they are careful about cross contact. The food is heavy pub food so I have to be careful not to overdo it, but it’s very good for what it is. It’s one of the few places in the area where I feel safe eating.
So many delicious gf items. My fav is the fish and chips. Be sure to ask for any salad w/o bread. The salads are noted as gf on menu, but they ALWAYS put garlic bread on top of salad. Quick to fix any issue and I've never had a problem with the service.
Split burger and fish and chips. Both were fabulous. GF cider on tap plus good selection of GF beers and ciders. Staff very knowledgeable. Asked if allergy and clearly marked order for kitchen. Great GF dessert, which I took home and enjoyed later as it was rich. I am a celiac and will be back.
Delicious burger and sweet potato fries. I took off one star because when I asked which beer they use for the fish (fish and chips) she said omission. This got me really nervous to eat anything in the fryer. I was ok but beware.
