Almost every item is gluten free. I got the cheeseburger with a gluten free bun and fries. We also got fish and onion rings. Absolutely delicious and very safe! Didn’t get even the slightest upset stomach even eating all the fried food. Staff was super nice and overall a great place to go!
Portion sizes here are huge. If you don’t feel like eating a lot and don’t have a way to take home leftovers, maybe split a dish with someone else. 😀
May 2019: This place is my favorite stop every time I’m in Cannon Beach. Dedicated fryer. I always get the GF fish & chips plus a side of GF onion rings. Such a treat! Don’t pass this one up. August 2016: This place rocks! I had the GF fish & chips of my celiac dreams here. Dedicated fryer. Crispy, battered fish and tasty chips. It was so delicious! It made an awesome beach day even better. My husband got the GF onion rings so I could try some and they were also great. Never thought I'd get to eat those again. It was so good we went back & got takeout for dinner (fish and chips again for me!) and I got the BBQ chicken salad to save for lunch the next day.
Manager has family with celiac - most of the menu is safe or can be made safe, and it’s also really delicious! They usually carry 2-3 ciders on tap and are super understanding about the questions I asked before ordering. Dedicated fryer and I had some amazing battered fresh fish and really amazing onion rings and not even a whiff of a reaction. The local seafood is such a star. I’ve come back several times now when I’m in town and it’s always excellent. Also the burger is very good too.
So amazing! Almost everything was gluten free that comes out of the kitchen. Everything fried uses a GF batter so I could have so many items it was hard to pick. The onion rings were to die for, and their house made root beer was the best we’ve ever had. Will make another trip even if just for the food!
My husband and I visited last night after reading the great ratings here and we were NOT disappointed. Almost the entire menu can be GF, although it isn’t marked or advertised anywhere. The woman behind the counter was very knowledgeable and told us we just needed to avoid the chowder and the rolls that come with the salads. We ordered chicken wings and dirty fries (minus the blue cheese) with a couple of marionberry ciders and everything was delicious. Most importantly, I didn’t have any reaction. We will definitely be back!
Super gluten free! It was fun to be able to order almost anything I wanted. The chicken strips, fish and chips, and burgers are all good, and be sure to get the onion rings! The food was amazing. The restaurant had a cool atmosphere too. Be sure to check out this place!
I am highly sensitive to Gluten. I asked about the fryers and cross contamination. I was told most of the menu is GF and the fryers are GF. I ordered fish and chips. Then I questioned the onion rings. I was told everything breaded and fried is made with Bobs Red Mill GF flour. So I added Onion rings to my order. Then I questioned the kids chicken fingers thinking they may have overlooked the kids menu. They are also GF. I ordered and ate some of everything fried on the menu. (I shared with the family!) I had no reactions other then being over stuffed. It was delicious and a treat. It is rare that I trust a restaurant fryer.
Unfortunately, despite all of the good historical reviews, our experience was mixed for our 3 Celiacs. Things we learned: 1) menu has zero info about GF or any other food allergies. 2) clam chowder is not GF. 3) the gentleman taking our order had no knowledge about celiac/GF, but did appear to ask the kitchen every question we asked. 4) they claim to only cook fries in the fry frier, and to never have bread on the grill. 5) fish and chips were delicious, and our two Celiacs who ate that seemed fine. 6) my wife had a grilled chicken breast with cheese on a lettuce wrap with the house sauce, fries, and a salad with ranch. She felt significantly ill 30 minuets later, with her classic symptoms of having been glutenized. 7) when our tray of food was brought out, a non-Celiac’s order of salad with bread came out on the same tray (not visibly touching any Celiacs’ food at that moment, but a potential source of cross contamination). Not sure what the ultimate culprit was (house sauce? Ranch? — we did ask about both — cross cont?), but for 1/3, it hasn’t been pretty...
In the past I would have given them five stars. However they changed their menu and reduced what they had drastically. This was the place i came to foe deep fried shrimp. We came today and it is no longer on the menu. I was so disappointed as this is one of my fave foods that i dont get because i have celiac. There menu does need to make a better notation abput gluten free. We will still come here i am just seriously disappointed that the changed the great menu that they had to this new menu
Food was very good, but the menu is totally lacking in clarity in regards to food allergies. There are no gf notations next to any menu items, so you are left asking a lot of questions of the person staffing the register (there are no formal waitstaff- you order at the counter and your order is brought out to you) who may or may not know the answers to your questions.
This place is amazing, especially for a celiac. From out of town and looked this place up and they did not disappoint. Got burger and fries. They have a dedicated fryer. Almost everything on menu is GF. Zed was the guy who checked us out(you walk up to order), and he was so helpful and friendly. Let us know they have someone in family with celiac so they totally understand it’s not just some fad diet, it’s a disease. Can’t recommend enough
This place is a brew pub that offers gluten free fish and chips. The friers are dedicated and they are very knowledgeable about cross contamination. The menu includes gluten free buns for burgers, salads, onion rings and they recently have added gf beer. They offer really good brewed root beer and cider. I have never felt sick after eating at this establishment.
Excellent pulled pork sandwich on gf bun (special of the day). Told pretty much everything is GF except bread that comes with salad. Dedicated fryer for fish & chips, fries, onion rings, etc. was told staff member has celiac so they re-did everything on their menu to accommodate. Fairly pricey but you are on the gorgeous OR coast.
We got glutened! We had a very bad gf experience at the Public Coast Brewing Co at Cannon Beach. The menu states that they can make almost anything gf, so my husband made our order saying that we wanted it ALL gf (since that just makes life easier.) Well, my salad came with a roll on the side. Then I took a bite of chowder, and I tasted something I had not had in years.... a dumpling! I was like, ummmmmmm, this can't be gf. We asked the waiter if it was gf, and he said, "Oh, we don't have any gluten free chowder." So, who knows what else got messed up in the order. I just know my belly is hurting. Booooo! Never going there again.
I was thrilled to go to a place where the fryer is gluten free and I could have fish and chips for the first time in many years. However, the fish and chips was tasteless and I paid $22 for a tiny basket of food. the only part that saved it was the tartar sauce. I was very disappointed. I gave it 3 stars for being celiac friendly, but the food was blah.
Everything they put in the fryer is gluten free. They have told me that they use a gluten free batter from bobs red mill for their fish and chips. And they have Atlas Cider on tap. Update: That was the best gluten free fish and chips I've ever tasted. The fried shrimp was amazing.
Amazing. If you are gf or celiac, come here. They are super knowledgeable, all fried food is gf, gf burger buns on request, all sauces gf, and the best were the onion rings. I've had a fair share of gf fried food and this is without a doubt the best fried fish and onion rings I've had. Only desserts and clam chowder could not be made gluten free (and their beer). On the spendy side, but huge portions.
