Went here on a Saturday for lunch. The place wasn't busy maybe less than a quarter full. Was seated at an improperly cleaned table on padded seats that I initially thought were also dirty but actually just had holes in them. Waited for 10 minutes with no water or waiter/waitress in sight while watching two hostesses stand around doing nothing. Left unnoticed.
Tons of options in the GF menu - miso soup, plenty of maki, rolls and the like along with poke , bowls and even entrees like chicken or salmon teriyaki. Bottles of Tamari available upon request. The server checked to make sure the sushi rice didn’t use malted vinegar in rice for us and said they don’t, so good to go. LA’s high end sushi scene is too close to give a chain 5 stars but for being welcoming and safe this place hits the spot.
I highly recommend this RA location for someone with celiac disease or food sensitivities. The restaurant is extremely knowledgeable and cautious about allergies both in ordering and in the kitchen. Lindsay and Drea are very careful in the ordering and preparing the meals themselves and to mention fine quality sushi!
Thank you for your review- can't wait to see you and your family again! -Andrea
Though they use "gluten sensitive" on their menu, the server asked my level of sensitivity (in fact, she asked if it was Celiac). When I said "yes", she informed me that they would clean the work station before my order and sanitize everything, so my food might take a little longer. THAT I have no problem waiting for! So glad to have a server that took the initiative to inform me about their kitchen practices. They even brought me my own GF dessert (creme brulee) since we had a birthday in our group and they do free desserts for birthdays. SUCH a nice gesture!!! As a note, they only use imitation crab here (gluten containing), so most of the GF sushi options are maki, hand rolls, nigiri, and sashimi (no specialty rolls). Regardless, my food was EXCELLENT. 10/10!
Hi Brie, thank you for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your food and experience! We now have snow crab on the menu- so give that a try next time. My name is Andrea, I am one of the managers and I also have celiac disease- ask for me next time you come in. There are some additional items that can safely be eaten but are not on the gluten sensitive menu, sometimes it just takes removing or changing the sauce! We hope to see you again soon:)
I've been to Ra a couple times because they have birthday and half birthday promotions that my husband is signed up for.
As someone with Celiac disease, this is one of the few places that I can eat some sushi, as sushi rice generally contains gluten.
You must ask for a separate gluten-free menu. It is an allergen menu, so you must pay close attention to the allergen key to make sure that you can order it. It's a limited menu but it is something.
On my last visit a week or two ago, I ordered the yellowtail nigiri ($8.40) and the 16 oz spicy chicken fried rice, both gluten-free.
For some reason my friend rice had no vegetables in it. Just gluten-free soy sauce, rice and diced chicken. When I asked my server about it, she said there was supposed to be vegetables in it so they remade it. It came out with only shredded carrot added. I wasn't going to ask for it to be remade again, but I wouldn't pay nearly $18 for rice and diced chicken again.
The place is always empty when we visit, but it is open until midnight which might be why it's never busy when we're there.
If you need some gluten-free nigiri and you're on the Strip, this may be your only option.
