Gluten free menu with many options. Waitress Paula had no time to deal with our questions and concerns. I asked about the different Margaritas and she thought we were ridiculous. Manager made up for this careless waitress. Food good and safe. Atmosphere very crowded and overly loud. Experience was way below expectations. Traverse City much more worth the drive.
Had the fajitas, and they were awesome. Staff is very knowledgeable with celiac. Highly recommend.
Great place for celiacs. Not just a GF menu, but a "Celiac Safe" menu! Staff very knowledgeable and able to accommodate other allergies at our table too by consulting chef. Excellent service.
awsome food, great margaritas!
Fantastic!!!! Has GF menu and knowledgeable staff
Food was awesome. Josh our waiter was very good. They brought bags of gluten free chips, and extra bowls of salsa.
They bring gf chips for salsa or you can bring your own in. The chicken and chorizo stuffed poblano was awesome. The enchilada platter was good.
We've had a good experience here. The wait person, Becky, was knowledgable and very sweet and accommodating. My daughter is very hard to feed (no meat, spice, lettuce, dairy) but she had rice, beans, avocado and corn tortillas. The corn tortillas fell apart and the rice is cooked in butter which is why I didn't give them five stars. A lot of celiacs have issues with dairy, too. They did well with my son's nut allergy as well.
Celiac friendly, yes. Gluten free menu and separate corn chips for the salsa, but no mention of separate salsa for the GF chips, hence cross contamination. Also, when our meals finally came the food was luke warm at best and not very tasty. I ordered the "soft corn" taco and it was dry and fell apart instantly. The best part of the entire meal was the margarita, and the fact that our kids did not have to wait for their meals to cool down. We come to this part of town often, but will not return to this restaurant!
The reviews are true. Very nice amount of GF menu items and staff are very helpful and knowledgeable of their items and gluten options. I didn't feel like I was missing out.
Oh. My. Gosh. They had an amazing menu full of choices, instead of the normal two or three gluten free choices. They even had separate tortilla chips, as they could not promise that their regular chips were completely safe. Very tasty, and the staff was very knowledgable and super friendly. One of my favorite GF friendly restaurants so far!
This restaurant is absolutely amazing! A "Celiac Safe" menu, staff is knowledgable and AMAZING food! The celiac menu has a variety of appetizers, special meals, enchiladas, tacos, desserts, mixed drinks, and beer!
has A CELIAC menu! Great food and margaritas!
Best gluten free Mexican food I ever had. They have lots if options unlike other Mexican restaurants. Big portions and very filling a great place for dinner.
Delicious food, and they are confident enough to call their GF menu celiac safe. Chips are made in a shared fryer. They also have an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu, but only one dish crosses over between it and the GF menu - wild mushroom fajitas. They were great though. Would go back again if ever back in town!
I live Red Mesa! They have a gf menu, n I've never had a problem with their stuff. Their chips in TC are gf, so I guess I'll hafta check about that at the boyne location
Gluten free menu, need to watch prep especially on take out, chips not GF
This place is awesome! They have their menu labeled with what is safe for celiac. The staff is very knowledgeable. They have corn tortillas but they have a dedicated fryer for other corn tortillas that are celiac safe. I had the chicken/steak fajitas and they were so good! So was the chips and salsa. I am very sensitive and did not have a reaction.
Aug, 2018, Traverse City, MI. Menu clearly marked what is safe for celiac, knowledgable staff. They have corn tortillas, but have special gluten free corn tortillas so they are aware of the need to be vigilant with "gluten free". Food was very, very good.
I’m a very sensitive celiac and ate here without so much as a tummy rumble! The menu doesn’t list things as gluten free but with a c as celiac safe! There is even a sign at the hostess station letting patrons know they have celiac-safe options. I highly recommend eating here.
The staff here is wonderful! The chips and corn tortillas are GF and they have a full menu of all the GF options. Even have a chocolate GF cake. They really make you feel welcome with a sign saying they welcome everyone — GF, DF, or any other allergen.
I am Celiac and I am always skeptical about going to restaurants, especially any of witch don't understand the concept of what GF is. Red Mesa Grill in TC, Absolutely Nailed It!! I was Ecstatic to see that I got a separate menu titled 'Celiac Friendly'. I ate their chips, salsa, guacamole, and the three sample enchilada platter. Our waitress was Absolutely Amazing!! I wasn't sure about the chips, due to the menu stating 'We can not guarantee our chips are GF, but you're more then welcome to bring your own chips in and we will gladly hand over our salsa for dipping.' (Along them lines) I asked the waitress about the chips and she was pretty sure they were GF. She even offered to go double check and of course I asked her to. When she came back she said 'Our chips are GF and they are fried in a separate fryer.' I enjoyed my meal, as did my family. We will be back, for sure!! Thanks Red Mesa Grill!!❤
I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and now I am going to have to drive over at least once a week to eat here. They have a separate "celiac-safe menu" and it's priceless! I tried the Jack Stuffed shrimp and substituted the beans and rice for veggies and garlic green chili mashed potatoes. It was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! The chips are fried in a separate dedicated fryer and the salsa is very unique & delicious - unlike any I've ever had, and I've lived in the southwest for the past 12 years! The bartender Matt was very knowledgeable about celiac & all of the staff is very conscientious of a celiac's needs. I give this place 10 stars out of 5! A northern Michigan MUST for celiacs and GLUTEN allergy sufferers. Im celiac with GLUTEN allergy that's off the charts.
Red Mesa offers a specific menu dictated to celiac disease. There were many different options. I had to clarify with the wait staff due to a disclosure they had written on their Menu but the waitress ensured communication to the cook and line staff regarding my meal.
I had a small scare at the beginning when, after our waiter told me the chips were corn and I could eat them (so I did), I read on the menu that the chips were not gluten free. I asked the waiter again and he confirmed with management that at the traverse city location the corn chips have a dedicated fryer and are safe to eat. I ordered the taco combination with hard corn tortilla shells which are also fried in the dedicated fryer! The steak was a little under seasoned in my opinion, the pork was my favorite. The food was good and I didn't have any problems! I would definitely eat here again!
If I could give a negative I would. They brought a flour tortilla to my daughter after she ordered off the gluten free menu, and we trusted them that it was corn. As soon as she eat a bite she said "oh no - that is flour!!" I got the waitress and she came and say yep that is flour let me fix it. What??? Too late. Do not eat here! The food is not even good. We left almost everything on our plates after that, we can not trust this place. I don't care if the owner is serious about celiac, your staff is not!
Celiac Friendly! A GF, Celiac, Vegan menu is available. Many options and, according to our waitress, chips are now celiac approved. Ate there 24 hours ago and have had no issues. Salsa is AMAZING! Roasted tomato flavor with just the right amount of heat. Hubby and I shared the combo faitas that were plenty big for two. Plenty of toppings to make about 5-6 good sized tacos. Margaritas are delicious as well. Overall a GREAT place!
This restaurant has a lot of GF options but they need to be more clear what is GF and not GF. We were told the chips on the table are GF - but it would be nice to see that listed on the menu. Our waitress told us that fries were GF but then later came back to tell us she was mistaken. If they have a dedicated fryer - I don't understand why they could make fries in that GF fryer. Some food was tasty. Anyone who got steak in their tacos/enchiladas didn't like the steak because it was lumpy and chewy. For dessert, they offered 2 GF options. We ordered one of them but then noticed that this option was not on the GF menu (like the fries weren't). The waitress insisted that the dessert was GF - she said she has worked there for 4 years and should know (but she didn't know the fries weren't). We were nice about it and chose to have the person with Celiac to just eat the ice cream (which came in a separate dish) but had the non celiac person eat the rest. We didn't complain. We have just been burnt by unknowledgable servers in the past at various restaurants and the consequences are too great. What I didn't like is that the waitress kept coming over to try and convince us that she was right - to the point of embarrassment in front of our friends. She even showed us that it listed as GF on the bill.
I was recently in Traverse City and was very excited to learn a place I had eaten at prior to GF was very GF friendly. I have to say I was disappointed. The menu stated the chips served table side were not guaranteed to be GF. That was severely disappointing. I was not helped at navigating the menu at all. They had great priced happy hour eats but the server did not offer any help on anything even though I was holding a Celiac menu. I got the chicken and it was just ok. Tasted like it had been previously frozen or something. It was just ok. We spent almost $70 with tip and left pretty disappointed.
