The person who took my phone order for a pizza was extremely knowledgeable about celiac disease and told me that they take extra precautions to prevent cross-contamination. The pizza arrived and the receipt had computer typing on it in big letters written in red that said, celiac disease, celiac disease, celiac disease, so they definitely go out of their way to alert their kitchen staff. The pizza was good. I just had it tonight so cannot comment on any cross-contamination, but I’m hopeful that it will all be fine.
The pizza was made from wheat flour with the gluten removed. It sounded interesting, so I had one. It was good. Better than most GF pizzas I’ve had since diagnosis. You can tell that it was made with care and consideration. The toppings were exceptionally good. The server cared and was friendly throughout. After having had the sausage crust at the Lou Malnati’s nearby, regular GF crust will never work on me again. It is by its nature too crunchy and flavorless. It’s not this restaurant’s fault. I’ve been spoiled by sausage crust. Anyway I feel fine today. This is a good place to go to with family and friends.
I stopped here for lunch a few days ago while visiting Chicago and it was great! I spoke with the waiter about safety measures and he was unsure if the pizza was safe for me to eat, so he called over the manager without me even needing to ask. The manager informed me that they do not have a separate oven, but they do cook the pizza with a tray and try their best to minimize cross-contamination. He said that while there is a chance of cross-contamination, to his knowledge they had never had an issue with celiacs having reactions, but he just wanted to warn me there was a risk. I was also warned that my pizza would take longer than the regular pizzas that the rest of my family ordered. I got the artichoke and chicken pizza and it was amazing! The crust was the best GF crust I’ve ever had and it was definitely worth the risk! I had no reaction and would definitely recommend!
I am so glad I walked over from my hotel to find this little gem. It was so worth the walk! The gf pizza crust has the delicious crunch you expect from good pizza, and the pepperoni and mushrooms I ordered were piled on the pizza abundantly. Delicious! I am actually looking forward to cold pizza for breakfast in the morning. Gabrielle was a great server!
Celiac. When I called I was transferred to a manager after speaking with two others who did now know if they had separate ovens. The final person was able to answer my questions—the most important being that there is NO dedicated over. However, she informed me that they clean the oven before cooking a GF crust pizzas if marked allergy. They take all separate handling precautions—new utensils, gloves, clean workspace. We had the cheese pizza and it was very tasty and has no issues. Did not see GF beer on menu. Cute riverfront location—request outdoor seating if the weather is nice!
Absolutely fantastic pizza! The inside of the resturant was loud, so if you go with more than 4 people, it might be hard for people to talk with each other. The pizza was absolutely amazing! The crust was the best I've had. Might have to stop back again before I leave town!
This place is fantastic. Delicious pizza. The crust is amazing, one of the best GF crusts I’ve ever had. Robert himself came over to talk to our table and talked about how they used Caputo flour and how it took a long time to perfect the gf crust recipe! Pretty cool getting to meet the owner and talk to him a little bit (btw: he said his favorite pizza is the Rita!) Also got the beet & kale salad and affogato for dessert. Everything was delicious. Will be back!
The best GF pizza ever! I’m always ever so slightly concerned that I’m subjecting myself to gluten because it is a shared oven. However, they clean the oven and seem to employ an allergy protocol when making the GF pizzas. I have never been glutened here and I’m quite sensitive.
I was terrified as a celiac I’d get sick from the wheat starch in the pizza crust but I told them I was celiac and the pizza didn’t make me sick and was maybe the best pizza I’ve had in Chicago so far. Also they made a note to let the kitchen know it was being made for a celiac. Highly recommend!
Great pizza! After telling the wait staff that I have Celiac, the owner came out and said he would personally oversee the order. The pizza is cooked in the same oven as regular pizza, but they used a separate stone to cook the pizza on. I haven’t gotten sick yet, so fingers crossed. 🍀
Second time coming back. I changed the safety rating to a five star. I didn’t get sick. Here’s a tip from one of the managers: order the Cali Italia or the Prosciutto Arugula pizza as they have less of a chance of cross contamination.
Enjoy!
Enjoyed the pizza. 1st one I’ve had in a year. Good variety beyond the normal cheese or pepperoni pizza. The menu did mention the GF crust contained wheat starch. That made me really nervous. I have a colitis condition (not celiac) and am sensitive right now and, now writing this 1 day later, I did not have a reaction. From what I know, it’s wheat proteins, gluten being one of them, that is the issue so if the it’s purely starch with no protein then would not cause issue.
The BEST GF pizza you will find. They’re also full size so you can split with another person if you’d like. Servers are always knowledgeable. Best pizza in town if you ask me.
My husband is very sensitive to cross contamination. Our waitress informed us there may be a little cross contamination when it comes to the pizza, was not guaranteed GF completely. She recommended 1 soup to be the only option fully GF. Husband chose not to order food, didn’t want to take the chance!
We were in town for two nights and heard we had to eat here for gf pizza. Luckily we had a reservation because it was busy!! It was only about 20 min wait after we arrived. Our server was great- she has a trainee. Pizza came out in about 30 min. I ordered the Brussel sprout bacon pizza and my daughter ordered the The Lia. The crust was the best GF crust we have ever had in America. It was crispy outside and chewy inside. It tasted unreal for gf. Amazing crust. That being said- my Brussel sprout bacon pizza was inedible. The Brussel sprouts tasted liked they had been microwaved 5 days before and then burned to the top of the pizza. And every inch was covered with them. I scraped off the toppings and ate the crust of one piece but the bitter flavor lingered. My daughter had the classic cheese pizza. It was way better topping wise. But the crust was much darker and almost burnt- not as thick or chewy as mine. We ended up compromising. We ate the triangle inside of her cheese pizza and not the outer crust and then tore off and ate the outer crust of mine but not the triangle part with toppings. The waitress asked if we wanted ranch dipping sauce and we said yes- luckily! It was homemade and amazing. It made my daughter’s overdone crust palatable. It made my perfect crust divine. I would definitely come back. But I would have reservations about the done- ness of the crust.
The gluten free pizza crust is the best one I've had! The owner came to our table and told us how he makes it. Great experience overall!
Buzzing restaurant beside a little strip of water, with outside seating as well as being big inside. All pizzas a can be ordered with a gf base for a $3 supplement. We shared a prosciutto and arugula pizza and it was quite delicious. When it was brought to the table, the waiter announced it as gf, which instill confidence. Some of the gelatos are gf, and several salad and other options. Would definitely return, this is a gem of a place for coeliacs.
Delicious pizza, albeit expensive, but I had enough for leftovers and it was still very good. Two people could share one though, even the 10” GF one, it’s hearty. Allergy was noted and the cleaning protocols were explained—oven would be cleaned, fresh tools, gloves, etc, but they can’t guarantee kitchen air is free from contamination. I was satisfied with the cleaning measures though and I did not get sick. Robert himself even went around the restaurant to chat with tables and enjoying telling me about his GF flour from Italy and how to work with GF flours when baking. I name-dropped this app as the reason I came in, and we should always make restaurants aware of it when we can because there’s power in numbers!
Some of the best GF pizza I have had. They make their own GF crust in house.
I was very excited to go here after seeing and hearing great things about their gluten free options and precautions for celiac and cross contamination. However, the evening ended up disappointing at dessert. I will say we had no issues with the pizza being safe.
The incident I was extremely disappointed with was not only did they gluten one of our 2 diners with celiac, after we emphasized multiple times the severity of it, but that they did not apologize when it occurred.
We decided to order gelato and they confirmed twice ALL gelatos were gluten free and safe. My friend ordered the hazelnut gelato, took one bite and could tell there was gluten from the texture of a crunch. Upon asking the waiter what was in it and confirming it was gluten free it was clear he did not double check and shared he was told it was gluten free. Upon checking the label he realized there was wheat flour. Rather than sincerely apologizing he shifted blame saying he was told it was gluten free.
After this, the manager came over to our group and did not address the problem directly. My friend who was glutened had to. Once again, rather than apologizing he shifted blame onto their distributor saying all their gelatos are supposed to be gluten free.
Overall, it was very unfortunate because we enjoyed the ambiance and gluten free pizza. However, after how they handled the situation I cannot in good conscious go back.
