NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY - SAFETY ISSUES
It's 11:10 of Saturday November 23, 2019. I just finished a long conversation with the customer service representative of Rubio's and they confirmed that they don't provide any gluten free finished dishes.
Cross contamination can't be avoided caused the way they manage food and cook food. In particular: RICE is FRIED in the same FRIER of the battered fish. It is absolutely a dangerous process as it contaminate a food that is gluten free and ADD gluten to it.
Don't trust managers that will confirm you they will do the best do avoid cross contamination, it is beyond what really they can do.
NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY
No
Had the Grande Bowl w/ Steak. Tasted good, was filling and relatively inexpensive.
Yes
Those with celiac disease should beware. Note on their GF menu that their rice and chips are cooked in fryers used for other menu items that contain gluten. In 2004 their corporate office wrote that their flat grills are used to heat both flour and corn tortillas. Be sure to ask questions!
They have GF options & GF brownie

Rubies cannot be trusted! Every time I’ve eaten at any Rubios, I’ve been glutened.

According to the website they have a “gluten friendly” menu. I stopped by today and the staff said, “the only GF items we have are the pre-packaged desserts.” I’m not sure why the advertise GF…very disappointing!

Big disappointment! You know it’s bad when your non-GF spouse suggests you eat somewhere else! I asked about GF options and the guy at the register was lost. I suggested that he ask the person preparing the food who was also lost. I overheard him asking the manager in Spanish and she was also lost. None of the staff had a clue what gluten was much less how to avoid it. Glad I asked rather than ending up sick for 3 days. This is one Palm Springs restaurant I won’t be visiting again while I’m here!
