I was excited as they have updated their online allergen menu to be very clear and easy to read. Everything we ordered was listed as not containing gluten. Immediately after eating, I felt nauseated, and since (2 days later now) have been experiencing symptoms I only get with gluten, and have avoided for over a year until now. We will not be able to go back here, sadly, since the online allergen info is clearly not correct.
They have an allergen menu that tells what contains wheat/ gluten. They changed their utensils and when we asked about gloves, since they don't use any, put some on for ours. Lots of meat selection... the pulled pork isn't but all the other pork and beef is and honestly, those are the better meats anyways! They took their time with us and our questions despite how busy they were.
We eat here all the time. Most of their stuff is safe and they have an allergy list at the counter. Oddly, the pulled pork isn’t gluten free, which surprised us. Anything that touches their meat cutting area is gluten free so no cross contamination there. Half their sides come pre packed in a cooler, and the other half are scooped from large kettles. I could see opportunity for cross contamination there, as there are often multiple servers scooping out of multiple kettles at once, and I could see how some of the creamed corn (not gf) could fall into the potatoes or beans (both gf), so if you are super sensitive maybe skip those? Also make sure to tell the person helping you “no bread” right off the bat as they grab a big handful with paper and pile it on top of the rest of your food.
Claim to have gluten free options however staff does not use gloves and is not educated on gluten - they thought it was butter. I contacted the manager the next day as I was violently ill afterwards and all he did was defend their procedures - that no one has ever asked them to wear gloves after handling bread when serving a celiac. Why do they have an allergen menu if they aren't going to have the simplest of procedures in place to ensure that cross contamination doesn't occur?
Love eating here. Meat is never handled with anything but utensils only used on the meat, so low chance of CC. Should be aware that the pulled pork is not GF...
Amazing! A lot of the meat and sides are all GF. I ask them to cut the meat on a clean cutting board to avoid any CC. I always get the regular sausage and lean brisket with beans and potato salad. All BBQ sauce is GF but I get the tiny sealed ones instead of using the community bottles at the table. Great food and fun atmosphere.
Every time I come here, the staff is great. The chef will change his cutting boards and get a new knife. EI’ve used my Nima sensor on the smoked turkey on multiple occasions and gluten is never detected. Bbq sauce is also GF! We love this place !
UPDATE 2017 - It seems the management may have changed - the knowledge was no longer there and I felt unsafe. I dined there anyway (to appease my significant other - stupid me) and I got REALLY SICK. ******************************************************************* They don't have a separate menu but are familiar with people who must be GF and need to avoid cross contamination. I have eaten here MANY times - I've ordered salads and a few different entrees and no problem. My favorite is the applewood smoked chicken - I get it with string beans and cinnamon apples - delicious! If they're unsure of something they will come ask you - not guess. Love this place!
Awesome customer service. They changed out the cutting board, cutting utensils, and even the meat for a fresh piece to slice from. No issues whatsover for anyone in the family. and their menu is labeled really well online with all the main allergies. Very grateful
Most of the meats and sauces do not contain gluten! (The pulled pork does contains gluten, so steer clear of that one!) There are also a few sides to choose from that do not contain gluten such as some of the chips, potatoes, and beans. No gluten free bread, so you can’t have the sandwiches. They do have big potatoes you can top with the meat of your choice though! They don’t have a gluten free menu, this info is from the allergen list on their website.
Great BQ Brisket! I had no issues eating there, and the sauces are gluten free too.
Ordered turkey and individual order of potato salad to go. I have fairly new celiac diagnosis so asked them to clean knife before cutting turkey. They gladly took cutting board in back and cleaned it and knife and other utensils before carving mine. Turkey and rub is GF but I am being extra careful. I didn’t try Rudy’s sauce this time but will on later visit (they warn some are sensitive to vinegar in it). Thanks Rudy’s for offering GF items and your great staff training. Didn’t have any problems and added GF bread and Sweet Baby Rays GF honey BBQ sauce at home. Nice to have another safe option!
I think I got glutened here. I ate ribs and the sauce taking the lid off and pouring it to avoid cc- around 7, then I woke up at 1am puking. Not sure if the meat was undercooked or what, but my stomach definitely was queasy pretty bad the next morning.
I absolutely LOVE eating at every Rudy’s location we’ve been to. They know what is in their foods, understand allergen cross-contamination issues and just care in general. Ask to see their allergen listing & to use a clean prep/cutting board. They are always happy to be sure you are safe eating there.
BBQ sauce is gluten free, meat is gluten free and they will change gloves and use a clean cutting board and knife. Corn on the cob and baked potatoes are gluten free as well as the blue bell ice cream for dessert. One of our favorites!
Extremely accommodating. Handed us an allergy card with all allergens listed. Great service
This location has always been great with my gluten restrictions. I'm celiac and haven't gotten sick once, and I visit frequently. They are knowledgeable about gf items and have a gf list/menu for review. They will even get a new cutting board if asked.
My daughter had the turkey, corn on the cob ( which was over cooked for our taste ), and beans! No issues and the turkey was very good! The gave us a list of things that were ok, and things to avoid! Managers were very helpful with questions. Brisket, Turkey was very good and sauces all GF!!!
Do Not eat here!!! I became severely ill within 10 minutes of swallowing my first bite. This is Not a gluten free friendly restaurant. Other locations have decent reviews but I would warn to not eat at any of them.
Great food. Never had a reaction.
I've eaten here several times with no issues. I've stuck to the meats and been just fine. Delicious BBQ and friendly service. Their sauces are GF as well.
