In both my recent visits, it was wonderful to have a supervisor come by to review my GF order, to assure me of their kitchen’s careful GF cooking preps, and to answer any questions I might have. This kind of serious attention to dietary restrictions has been astounding and wonderful! (Plus, delicious GF bread available - served separately and with own knife and butter.) It’s why we returned for another visit within a week!
The service and atmosphere were fantastic. Miles our server was knowledgeable and guided us through which modifications would need to be made for items ordered. This is a steak house so most items were either naturally gf or could be by omission of some items.
I ordered the salmon Cesar salad from the gluten free menu. The server caught that the kitchen did not make it gluten free by adding croutons. They didn't just pull the croutons off, the manager came and apologized and they remade the whole meal. Great staff that made for an enjoyable meal.
3-4 stars for the food itself (heavily salted), but 5 stars due to the impressive gf options. Plus, some staff members really take it seriously. The waitress heard me say I’d like a bite of my husband’s soup. She asked the chef and told me it was gf when she brought it out. I never asked her to do so - she was looking out for me when I wasn’t. Very impressed.
The wait staff was super friendly regarding a gluten-free diet. The steak, salad, and gluten-free bread were delicious!
They have added a gluten free menu and there were a lot of options. They had everything from appetizers, soups and salads and entrees. The only negative is that they don't have any desserts. The waitress was very attentive and the food was fantastic. This is always one of our go to restaurants.
Manager was very helpful in choosing menu items. Although they did not have an official menu, the manager went out of his way to make us feel comfortable in our selections. He was attentive to our needs for gluten free menu items and went over the items that we could choose from. He was very knowledgeable.
Went to Saltgrass tonight for a special occasion. It was very disappointing. The GF bread is microwaved, so it was rubbery. We were left sitting for over half an hour and then they tried to deliver our meals even though we hadn't received our salads. Their answer? To bring our salads and leave our meals under the warmer. We refused this, as our medium rare steaks would have been ruined.
When our meals came, my ribeye was MAYBE 1/2" thick and literally had zero seasoning on it. It looked like a Denny's steak. Our server apologized and said they would re-make it. The manager brought my steak out....and it was the SAME STEAK I had sent back! I could tell because I had cut into it in a few spots before. She asked what was wrong and I had to inform her that it was now well-done and still not seasoned. It was only at this point that I was told that their 7 steak seasoning (which we use at home) isn't safe because the kitchen "adds to it".
I couldn't eat more than a few bites because it was so bad. It was a terrible meal and was certainly not worth $30-35 a plate! I cannot recommend this restaurant, unless you want a thin, tasteless steak and rubbery bread. It has really gone downhill.
They had a dedicated gluten free menu with plenty of options. I have a sensitivity, I do not have celiacs.
The newly built Saltgrass restaurant is now open. It has a separate gluten free menu available, and has seafood and salad options for us pescatarians. We already checked it out and had dinner at the bar because it was so busy. The service was great, she knew what celiac was and made sure my food was safe. I didn’t get sick either. I’m glad there’s another option for GF foods in New Braunfels now.
