Shaka Food

I drove 40 minutes to experience Shaka and it is nothing short of Amazing food! 100% gluten free with some limited dairy free options. Can always sub out!

The owner is so sweet and great service all around. I got the Ceviche and Reina Pepiadas and it filled me right up! I also went back the next day for more.

I am in heaven! A lot of Costa Rican food is naturally gluten free, but there is so much peace of mind knowing that this kitchen is dedicated to the gf lifestyle. The mother/daughter team adds a special quality as well!

Lovely family owned restaurant. Lots of Aunties in the kitchen. Tasty food, friendly service, so nice to not worry when eating out. A good selection available and my non-gluten free father also loved the food.

The food was so good and the owners were so nice!! We tried two kinds of arepas which were delicious - fresh and made right there. They had arepas, lasagnas, falafel, omelettes, pizza, sweets, etc. It is a bit outside the main touristy/downtown area but so cute and definitely worth making a stop for lunch :)

Favorite place to eat in Costa Rica! I’m a celiac and the entire kitchen was gluten free. Arepas were mouth watering. Soooo so good. My husband loved it too. Vegan options and lots of high protein options . Trusted!

We were so grateful for this place in Tamarindo. We have been there multiple times across multiple years. The Arepas and eggplant lasagna were great, as were the desserts.

In 2023, Shaka is under new ownership. There is renewed energy and enthusiasm in the service.

Arriving to a new country was pretty nerve racking for me. I easily get sick even through the slightest cross contamination. As we drove into Tamardino from Liberia, Shaka caught my eye. We went there the next day and I was VERY impressed. You don’t even get this quality of GF food in the states. Very tasty, fresh like farm to table. The ladies working listened to my other allergies and made sure I was good to go. Some items are made with almond flour and some rice flour. So make sure to ask about that too if you have another allergy or sensitivity.

I got the beef lasagna. Sooooo good!

This is a tough one to write. Having a dedicated GF option is always amazing, especially when traveling and out of your element. The staff was lovely. The trouble is the food is - ok. Very much the ‘well at least it’s gluten free’ experience. I had arepas and my husband had the savory pancake. Both were edible. We actually couldn’t eat some of the baked goods- they were terrible. It’s priced ok, so there’s that bonus. It may be just our experience, but it was enough that we didn’t return during our lengthy stay.

Super nice and friendly staff. Everything is glutenfree, even the cakes. It was super delicious! I can highly recommend it.

Excellent stop after the beach. Coffee, snacks & meals. The shop is 100% gluten free. Staff was super nice. We got a quick banana bread & coffee for the drive back home after a full day surfing.
