The kitchen is open so you can see them making your order. They use the same panini press for gluten and gluten free and do not clean it between. I also watched them put the gluten sandwich on the press, then sweep the crumbs onto the panini press, then with the same gloves grab the gluten free sandwich and sweep the gf crumbs over the sandwich. Totally not safe for celiac. Also found 2 hairs in the sandwich….
The best place ever and my go to often! Lots of gluten-free options with their soups and sandwiches and quiches! Bob and Kate are the best!
Loved it! Cutest little place and the nicest staff. They take Celiac prep seriously if you just ask. I got a breakfast sandwich and it was SO BOMB. They like toast the bread with parmesan and herbs - genius. My BF who’s not Celiac also enjoyed his food! Homemade lemonade was also a hit!
I always have a good experience here! When I’ve ordered inside they’ve listed all the steps they take to prevent cc including using different utensils, cutting boards, condiments etc and toasting paninis in a bag. When I’ve ordered online for pickup, they actually have a “celiac” box you can check! I always feel safe here and their paninis are out-of-this world! One of my favorite mom-and-pop shops.
I took my celiac daughter here because of all of the great reviews. I read it was Celiac safe in several reviews. I was helped by Bob who was mentioned in other reviews. I told him my daughter has celiac and read wonderful reviews mentioning it is celiac safe. He told me that it really isn’t and there is flour and other non gluten free goods everywhere. He said he could make my daughter a GF sandwich but couldn’t guarantee that they could would try to avoid cross contamination. Another woman came to help and explained the process they use much better than Bob. By that time, my daughter felt very uncomfortable because and did not want to eat there. We ended up at Swami’s Cafe. She got the best GF waffles she ever had there and felt safe and comfortable.
The quiche here is truly unbelievable. No crust, just cheesy eggy deliciousness. Many flavors but the green chili is to die for. The works breakfast sandwich is the best gf breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. They’re a bit pricey, but everyone has an up charge for gf bread and they’re very generous with the avocado, so I don’t mind dropping the $ for one. They also have gf muffins daily which are quite tasty. Well worth the visit, definitely my fav breakfast joint in Escondido.
I had told Bob I had a gluten allergy, which he then asked me if I had Celiacs, I said yes. He told me all the steps the kitchen takes to prevent any cross contamination and I felt assured. A day later I’m writing this review and am feeling fine! The food was also great. Fresh food with fresh ingredients. Love it
We purchased salads and told them about celiac (well, we say gluten allergy because restaurants seem to grasp that better). They changed gloves and used clean surfaces for us. Their gf muffins were in a case very close to gluten brownies so I wouldn’t trust those. Not sure how safe they are with baking. Small, homey, friendly place.
They are knowledgeable about cross contamination and want to keep guests healthy and happy.
Quality is delicious and fresh. Gluten free options taste amazing.
The owners are so sweet and really engaging. It really feels like you are sitting in your aunts kitchen and she is making you lunch.
They understand how to avoid cross contamination.
Canyon Bakehouse bread for any Panini Sandwich. Gluten Free crustless quiche.
Delivery through Hungr.com.
They take precautions to avoid cross contamination for gluten and all allergies.
Great GF muffins, always worth grabbing one for after lunch
They started out selling at the Farmers market and now have their own shop! They make Gluten-free cookies and muffins very yummy!
