Taco Mama is my wife's favorite comfort food place in Birmingham. As for me, I'm glad they have gluten free options. Gluten containing items are on a list at the register where you order, and the staff is well aware of that. I've been in there several times, and each time the staff and manager were helpful in making sure I ordered a safe option. I have suffered no ill effects eating there.
I went here over the weekend and was so impressed. I made my order with what I thought was gluten free and informed the girl taking orders i had an allergy. Minutes later a manager arrived at my table to ensure everything was safe for me and had some concerns about cross contamination with what I had ordered. She recommended other tacos that would be safe for me and changed the order. She returned when my ordered came out to ensure me everything had been cleaned and should be safe for me to eat. It was also extremely busy at the time so I’m very grateful for the time taken to make sure I was safe.
Staff is well informed on what is safe and what isn’t, and have a list of items taped to the register. Very accommodating and have many options that are GF. Highly recommend
The shredded chicken isn’t GF but the grilled chicken is along with all the other meats!
The staff is always helpful and friendly! Their chips and chicken are not GF, but they have GF corn tortillas that are good for the tacos! Also the bowls are always great.
I ordered the shredded chicken corn tacos and was talking to the employees and I said I wish I could have a Corona but can’t because of the gluten. A free moments later they said the shredded chicken is marinated in bud light. Thankfully they told me and suggested the grilled chicken taco. Now I know why the last time I ate it I did not feel well. I thought it was just the hot salsa. I would suggest ordering at the restaurant and ask instead of placing order on line. Very helpful and friendly people.
I love taco mama I eat it all the time in Birmingham and I don’t get sick from it. The chips in Birmingham are fried and a separate fryer and they are corn but the chips here in Tuscaloosa are fried with gluten so do not eat the chips if you are sensitive to cross-contamination
