I visited the Crab Shacks in Folly Beach and the server laughed when I asked if anything was GF, including steamed shrimp and potatoes. The only thing I felt comfortable eating was iceberg lettuce and cheddar cheese.

I called ahead since the reviews on here weren’t so great and they assured me they could grill whatever seafood I wanted in a separate pan. I ordered a platter that had grilled fish, shrimp and scallops and it was good!

There are some obvious seafood dishes that are GF and made a good meal. A bit expensive. It seemed like there isn’t formal training on gluten know-how there among the wait staff or at least not in depth, and felt like we were bothering the wait staff and the people who seated us.

Making a review because there weren’t any already— This place was decent. I didn’t get sick which is great! But I also didn’t feel super secure about eating there. The waitress had fair knowledge of gluten free and the restaurants options. I got the grilled seafood platter with potatoes and corn on the cob. It was SO GOOD. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. Like I said: I didn’t get sick. I am celiac but I am not super super sensitive. If you are, I wouldn’t really recommend eating here.

Staff had extremely limited knowledge regarding gluten allergies, though did at least know the seasoning that’s used on everything contained gluten. I was told that they could give me anything steamed, though everything is steamed in a steamer filled with seasoning. In fact, virtually everything is seasoned. The only thing I found that wasn’t seasoned was coleslaw. I was told the fries “should be fine” for me despite them being seasoned and fried in a shared fryer. They did offer grilled scallops without seasoning, so I got that with the coleslaw and collards, which I was assured had no seasoning except pepper sauce. Everything tasted fine, but after a few bites of my collards, I saw they had seasoning on them. Not a good experience.
