The Red Lion

Visiting a friend in Shelbyville, we were both shocked to see The Red Lion come up on Find Me GF. Most of the menu is marked GF or GF Optional. I also asked about the fryer and was told they are separate and therefore fries are safe. I ordered the salmon and asked for a side of fries. Unfortunately my dish came out as a piece of cooked salmon on top of a bed of fries. It was quite the sight and made for a good laugh. But no photos of the meal exist because of my “kid friendly” order. The waiter made an honest mistake and I didn’t have the heat to correct him. Next time I look forward to the salmon on a bed of vegetables with my side dish of fries!

So, so good! So many gluten free options. It looks like their menu rotates. We got two appetizers, a salad, and an entree. The appetizers were my favorite- buttermilk jalapeño ribs were 🔥🔥

Soo good! Food was very filling. Drinks were okay. I had the watermelon salad and the taco trio GF and loved the different flavors. They also have gf fried chicken and fish! Relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Make sure to set a reservation.

This place is so so lovely and the food is absolutely amazing. They are very knowledgeable about gluten free/celiac needs and I’m never afraid to order anything here. I will return to this place over and over again! A celiacs dream. I just wish they had a cider 😀

This place is truly a hidden gem for the GF people of this area! I drive 45 minutes out of the way just to dine at the Red Lion. Turns out one of the owners and the chef’s wife are both celiac, so this establishment is extremely cognizant of GF dishes/cross contamination/etc! They even have a designated GF fryer!

The first time I came here was for a family dinner, and I honestly didn’t expect to be able to eat anything.. was I ever wrong! They had so many options: appetizers, main dishes, and even a delicious flourless chocolate cake for dessert!

My favorite dish is the pork belly and brussel sprouts, it melts in your mouth. They also do a GF bang bang shrimp that is very good (but must be requested GF, otherwise they will bread the shrimp). They have plenty of other options too, I just love these two dishes so much I haven’t explored the others yet.

I honestly can’t give this place enough praise for creating a welcoming environment for GF people to celebrate special events (hosted a birthday here) or just to enjoy a nice dinner with family. They make me feel normal, and I love that!

I almost sent my food back because I just could not believe the Fried Chicken Sandwich was Gluten Free. Best breaded chicken I've had since my Celiac diagnosis.

Restaurant is hidden, a true gem. I cant wait to visit my in laws in Shelbyville again and eat there!!
