I do not recommend this restaurant for those with celiac disease. I ordered brunch at this restaurant (midtown location) last weekend on a date. I asked about gluten free options and mentioned having celiac disease. The waiter told me the Rancheros breakfast with the corn waffle and egg were gluten free, *as long as the waffle was baked. When the food came out, it was someone from the kitchen staff who handed me my plate of food, along with my date's food. We had both ordered the same thing, but mine had been marked with a flag. I got about half way through the waffle when the waiter came out and said, "wait! Hold up, your plate doesn't have the sauce on the side. The gluten free order usually has the sauce on the side." At that point he told me to stop eating and he checked with the kitchen. A few minutes later the manager came out and was very nice and apologized, but said they had made a mistake with my order. They had given me the wrong waffle. Now, perhaps this is my fault for taking the risk of ordering a corn waffle at this restaurant, but if I were a GF customer looking at reviews, I would want to know that this happened. This week I have a full on celiac rash, I am bloated, lethargic, sniffly, and just feel lousy. So moral of the story: if you are Celiac and do not want to risk a mistake, do not order from The Smith.
