first place in Austin that was worth the money! loved or
So happy to find this eatery for lunchtime!
This is the top tried and true gluten-free friendly restaurant in Austin, where it's easy to enjoy both great food and leisurely conversation. The Cashew Caesar Salad with chicken added is particularly good as a GF option, as are the GF scones and pignoli cookies. An extensive tea list offers many possibilities for matching your preference with your mood. I've been coming here since the first location opened in The Domain and happily return to The Steeping Room as often as possible.
Very good- &40 for brunch very good quality
This place is always really busy and hectic, so be prepared to wait a long time to get a table. Also not kid friendly at all. The gf pastries and sandwiches are good, but really not worth it considering the prices and the stressful atmosphere.
This is my FAVORITE spot for delectable desserts, and sandwiches! Their menu is clearly labeled and the wait staff is trained to ask if you're ordering GF as a preference or due to an allergy so that they won't cross contaminate! If you're GF or not, you MUST try their carrot cake cupcake and apricot scones!!! MMMMMMmmmmmm!!!
I moved away from Austin and miss visiting the steeping room. such a great selection of fresh, healthy food.
Great tea and GF scones plus sandwiches with GF rice bread option, salads, soups and Buddha Bowl
Fantastic place to grab sone gluten free food! Wide selection of fresh and healthy entrees. They even have desserts and cookies G Free. Looking forward to my next visit!
Excellent food. Plenty of GF, vegan options. Some wheat-free desserts. A few dairy-free desserts. Most of the entrees and sandwiches available GF or vegan. The lopsang smoked chicken is fabulous. Service is attentive. Busy, reservations recommended for lunch, at least.
Service is always great. Very Austin feel, you see a good mix of all types here, very laid back atmosphere. The food is amazing and the tea is even better. Can have a bit of a wait time, but I like them for their desserts and read more so it's not an end of the world sort of thing.
Visited during a business trip to Austin at the request of family who used to live in the area and was comforted by outstanding reviews. Unfortunately, I wasn't super impressed with service although they were busy but it seemed almost inconvenient asking what was recommended from the menu. No matter, I ordered one of their "service" options that samples a little bit of everything. GF scones were out and it sounded like management was hesitant to fill in a substitute that normally came with an upcharge but I was already forfeiting scone, spread and tea cake... Server appeared to work it out and a plate was served with my sandwiches, tort and cookies. I eyeballed the cookies as I definitely enjoyed the sandwiches and tort. When asked, my suspicions were confirmed: not one of those cookies were gf and now I began to worry about the berries I ate off them and the bread that was supposedly rice bread but was a bit too light and fluffy to be true. The server kindly brought me gf cookies to go and it looks like I was comped a bit on my check. I'm fortunate in that I merely feel ill when "gluten poisoned" versus more serious reactions I've heard tales of but it still prevents me from enjoying the cookies I took and the rest of my stay in Austin. I should note that the tea was indeed amazing.
They are very careful and ask each time if you have a gluten allergy when you order GF items so that they are sure not to cross contaminate. Their GF DESSERTS are AMAZING, and my husband didn't even know he was eating a GF cupcake. Their sandwiches are top notch! This is my FAVE GF spot.
Nestled inside a lovely shopping center sits the Steeping Room. it is a small shop with a sit down dining room adjacent. I got lost trying to find the room (first time in Austin) so I arrived 10 mins before closing. All they had left of the GF goodies were scones and carrot cupcakes. Which was cool cause I love carrot cake. got the GF cupcake and loved every crumb. It was moist, dense and ultimately satisfying. The coffees and teas were awesome too. I got spiced chi latte and hubby got a light Bolivian roast both brews were beyond expectations. Planning on going back tomorrow to have thre full spectrum of their GF options. Love love love the Steeping Room!
Lots and lots of GF options both on regular menu and dessert menu. Staff was very knowledgable and accommodating to check items for other intolerances I had as well. Sandwich bread was great, held together well (I would guess its Rudi's sandwich bread). Oh, tea selection is great too :)
