Server was very put out when my wife who is celiac ordered gluten free. The chain is gluten friendly in concept, but the local execution leaves something to be desired.

My daughter who has Celiac absolutely loves tom + Chee. However this location was not as good as the previous ones we have been at. The staff was alright, but initially told us that it was too late to make a GF grilled cheese, even though they were not closing for another 35 min. We must have looked upset and annoyed because they then told us they would actually be able to make a GF grilled cheese. GF grilled cheese is amazing though- best ever!

I love their gluten free grilled cheeses, I haven't gone when it has been super busy so I haven't experienced them telling me that they couldn't make it gluten free. Every experience I have had has been good, I go there about every two weeks.

I have gone it to receive conflicting information on what is safe. On my last two visits when I tried to order a GF sandwich I was told it's too busy to make GF!! So no sandwich and no longer interested in their lack of care for the GF community.

Same experience as others reviewing. Went at 3pm and they were doing a large catering order and had to ask a manger if they could do gluten free or not. So I wouldn't make a special trip when you can't be guaranteed of getting something you can eat.

The last two times I was here I was made to feel uncomfortable with my gluten free request. The first time I was told they were probably to busy to pull someone off the line to make my sandwich. The cashier had to go 'ask' if they could accommodate me. I felt singled-out and embarrassed that now everyone in line knew my allergy and my order. Plus, I was now holding-up the line which also made me uncomfortable. The second time, I was also told by the cashier that they stopped the gluten free offering for the time-being because they were to busy. There was no one else in line this time, but had two people waiting for food. They later told me they would make my sandwich but I had to wait an additional 20 minutes. Both times I wasn't sure if I had to leave with no meal. I am grateful to have a restaurant accommodate my allergy (I have celiac), BUT, if you are advertising that you serve gluten free, please do not make us feel like #^+% when we drive 40 minutes just to have a sandwich like a 'regular' person. It's hard enough....

Used to love going here for lunch they had a lot of options. Last time I went I was informed that they could do gluten free bread but they could not prepare and cook it separately anymore during the lunch rush. They said that they couldn't pull someone off the line to cook my food so I left hungry and very disappointed.

CHANGED REVIEW **UPDATE**on 3/18/16 I ate here and ordered as I usually do and my food came with crackers on the tray. Told them I could no longer eat anything due to possible CC the cashier seemed confused and asked if this was an allergy. I said I have celiac so yes I can NOT eat gluten hence gluten free bread. The owner the proceeded to dump the soup back into the communal soup bin on the line. I then watched them make me a new sandwich which they made from communal ingredients as well as cooked my gluten free sandwich on the gluten grill. When she brought me the sandwich I asked if that was actually what I was seeing instead of them using fresh toppings from the fridge and dedicated ingredients, and she said yes. I then told her I couldn't eat that and that now I wanted a refund as I was sure I wasn't safe eating here. I then spoke to the OWNER Seth and asked why if an order is ordered with gluten free bread that it isn't prepared as corporate told me it should...in a dedicated area with dedicated equipment and topping from the fridge. He explained that they ask if it is allergy or preference now because people who order it by preference were complaining it was taking too long to cook. I explained that isn't the process corporate said should be followed and secondly I was NOT asked allergy or preference. He didn't seem to care, he seemed to care more about catering to the FAD dieters. I was then offered a DONUT gift card for my inconvenience. I was appalled and ended up leaving with my refund. CAUTION TO ANY WITH CELIAC EATING HERE! I have a call into corporate. TO NOTE...if they follow protocol then why when I sent it back and informed her this was "an allergy" did they still make it with NO precautions.

Great comfort food is difficult to find in GF. Eating their chunky tomato basil soup and toasted cheese was a heavenly experience. Delicious and truly full of flavor. My husband ate the gluten bread and loved having four choices of bread from which to choose. A great experience for both of us!

I have celiac and ate here twice without issues but the third time I got sick from the American cheese. I was under the impression all cheeses were gf, that was not the case and I was not informed otherwise. So be sure to check Tom + Chee’s allergy menu online first!!! But great food the mozzarella and creamy tomato basil is my favorite :)

Excellent lunch, dedicated gf griddle, and staff is knowledgeable about what cheeses and other items are certified gluten free. I come here every time I’m in the area. My only complaint is they used to make their own gluten free bread but now they use a commercial bread, but I understand that it’s much easier to use a prepackaged product. I recommend the pesto turkey grilled cheese and creamy tomato basil soup

I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because we have eaten at other Tom + Chee and were very impressed. Today, however, not only did all 3 celiacs in my house get very sick but I was very upset at how I was treated. The general staff seemed confused and uninformed. Not what I am used to here. Also the manager gave me a ton of attitude when I asked him to change his gloves. Kept glaring at me. So, I started watching the kitchen. It was then I noticed most of them aren't even wearing gloves. So...I would not eat at this particular location if cross contamination is an issue.

Kitchen manager explained to me how they mark the order as “allergy,” which cues one person to handle your order. They have a dedicated grill for GF sandwiches marked “allergy.” She even advised me the American cheese has gluten, and steered me to the Wisconsin Cheddar. I haven’t had grilled cheese since diagnosed 9 months ago. It was SO good!!! And no cross-contamination. I left great the rest of the day.

This place was surprisingly amazing! I recently moved back to this area and wanted to try something new and chose to go here on a whim. I ordered a pepper jack and pepperoni grilled cheese on their gluten free bread. The staff made sure I wanted the sandwich made on a separate grill, which was amazing. The food was also fantastic, a little greasy, but still delicious and did not make me sick. Would definitely recommend this place! Haven’t been able to eat a sandwich out in a long time. I wish I had the same experience so many others had. I have celiac and was so excited to try this place. My husband and I walked in and an employee was on her cell phone talking wiping down tables and nodded at us. We stood at the front for awhile until another employee from the kitchen yelled to her that we were there. She came up and asked what we were ordering. I asked what the gluten free options were and she said “um soup and bread”. I said I’m sorry it’s my first time here I have celiac I meant what sandwiches can I have or do I need to do a build your own?” And she rolled her eyes and said I don’t know. The same person in the kitchen then directed her to give me a printout of ingredients that were ok. She again rolled her eyes and said “here” handing me the paper and then greeted another customer that walked in. I was so uncomfortable not just by the rudeness but if the staff wasn’t aware of gfree options or how to handle questions like that I didn’t want to risk getting sick. I thanked her and handed the paper back and we left.

Update: I previously gave this place 5 stars. I went in today and they recently changed the menu. The two teenagers at the counter said there was no longer a gluten free menu. They said that I could just order anything with GF bread. There is clearly lots of menu items not gluten free. I asked about the soups and they said... all soup is gluten free... isn't it? I said I would go somewhere with a gluten free menu. They laughed and said it was fine with them ☹️. First Review: Wow, Wow, and Wow. I have celiac and they made me an amazing Grilled Cheese and soup!! The rest of my family loved their meals also... The grilled cheese on a donut was a big hit with the non-celiac folks!
