I had cheese grits with eggs. The server was knowledgeable and my food was good. I just wish I’d been able to get something sweet since the entire place smelled like maple syrup. There is flour everywhere, so caution is recommended

While it isn’t a large GF menu they have GF items well marked. The shrimp and grits are fantastic. No GF dessserts. I have celiac

Not many gluten free options aside from salad. I decided to go with one of the salads and added shrimp so I would have some protein. Adding the shrimp cost $6.50 so I was expecting a good amount of shrimp. My salad came out with only 4 pieces of shrimp! The salad was not worth the money, and I’m hungry 2 hours later.

Looked forward to a great breakfast. Drove from Greenville to Asheville only to be turned away by a two hour wait. Nowhere on this restaurant's listing does it indicate reservations are required. Had a nice breakfast at Biscuit Head instead. Highly recommend it if you have celiac disease.
Cast Iron skillet pork entree was phenomenal! The sweet potato bisque and the heirloom tomato and goat cheese grits were also fantastic! Gluten free items marked on the menu and safe was very knowledgeable about recommendations and alterations if needed.

Menu was extremely limited— salads and one or two entrees. Staff was super helpful where they could, but all cook spaces are shared and hard to customize. Would not recommend for true celiacs.. I only ate sides because I felt they would be safest, and so far so good, but there was no good selection that I felt comfortable trying.

They have GF options on the menu. The staff is very accommodating with allergies. I had the trout and it was very good!
The trout was amazing! Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be back.
Yes
Decent selection. Knowledgeable staff. Had a GF burger and GF Trout dish. Both very good. GF bread available. No separate fryer.
The server was super nice and willing to help, but the GF selections are pretty lame. All the non-celiac people in my party were happy with their food tho...I ended up going elsewhere to get a more well-rounded meal.
Gluten free options and waitress indicated that several items not marked GF could be prepared that way. A first for me - I got GF sourdough toast while the rest of the table got biscuits. So wonderful to get a bread appetizer with everyone else for one. Food was good, but not spectacular. We had a table of 7 and place was packed so the kitchen was a tad slow. Waitress was great though.
I remember there being more GF options. What they do offer had to be stripped down to be GF, so it's not that exciting. But the food was good and the waiters are as accommodating as they can be.
Yes
This is questionable as far as celiac - I always get something safe like eggs.
No
The waiter was very helpful and friendly. Salmon was wonderful and sweet potato mash was heavenly!

I think Tupelo Honey Cafe is overrated. If you are looking for a huge amount of food and don't mind waiting, this place is for you. I think they do okay re: gluten-free; there are just so many much MUCH better options in Asheville.
We had an awesome meal last night. I was the only GF diner in our party but I was not neglected in any way. While others enjoyed the delicious biscuits, I was offered GF toast so I could sample the Tupelo honey and blueberry jam! The seared scallops were so tender, cooked perfectly! And the risotto with peas! Yum! We had a party of 11 but the service was excellent.
Yes
Good food, great service hard to find accommodation for our girl that is GF and DF they finally served shrimp on the side for her.
2 gluten free dinner choices fish or pork chop. Waiter put down the corn muffins in front of us and I took a bite by mistake. Since I had asked for the gluten menu he should have known.Turns out it is right on the main menu. Would have been a nice atmosphere but the staff spoke loudly to each other to hear over the music.Would maybe go there again, maybe
I had a great GF breakfast here.
Yes
Very good! GF menu with lots to choose from.
Delicious. Loved the goat cheese grits and the grilled cheese. I travel a lot for work and I am always psyched (and relieved) to find restaurants that offer great, gluten free food. If I'm back in Asheville, I'll definitely be back at this spot.
Same experience as Barb! Ordered the Eggs Benedict and had to send it back multiple times. Served it with a biscuit, never asked the cooks, and eventually served it on REGULAR bread. Never again will I eat here!

Excellent service by someone who went to the gluten free training. Extensive gluten free menu and amazing food!

We had a great experience at this restaurant. We ate there for lunch, short order type environment, however, staff and kitchen are on top of it. Very busy restaurant. Moderate to long wait. Noisy atmosphere. Friendly wait staff. Can't say enough about how safe I felt eating there.
Yes
We came here solely for the purpose of having a gluten-free breakfast, especially their version of eggs Benedict. The good news is that the server knew to ask the kitchen before I placed my order. The bad news is that the server came back with a clear, unambiguous message from the kitchen: the restaurant is gluten FRIENDLY, but NOT gluten free. Since flour flies in the air, they cannot provide a gluten free dining experience. Then I asked for a hard boiled egg and the server initially said it was not on the menu and so would not be possible. She managed to find a way to boil eggs when the prospect of our leaving immediately became clear. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE CELIAC DISEASE, especially for breakfast.

The GF menu was extensive and thorough (included GF salad dressing and side sauces available). I had the Charleston Chicken Sandwich on GF bread with Goat Cheese Grits. It was really good. My non-GF family enjoyed everything, too. The kids really liked the home fries. The staff was great. The hostess even let me read the ingredient list on the after dinner mints (not GF, contain wheat flour).

So nice to have a GF menu! The atmosphere is cozy and fun. I cleaned my plate!!
Loved it. Living and eating in Asheville is definitely enhanced by Tupelo Honey's gluten free (and egg free! options.
OMG....amazing!! Great GF menu, knowledgeable server, super yummy food (try the goat cheese grits!). Will definitely frequent here when in Asheville.
Great service and excellent GF menu choices
Thank you!!!! Your knowledgable staff made my gluten free dinner AMAZING. Service was A+. I highly recommend Tupelo Honey Cafe GF menu.
Menu has changed! We used to come here semi-regularly but hadn't been for a while. There were only a few gf options, no gf bread option, and even things like a vegetable omelet weren't safe. The waiter even said they weren't allergy friendly anymore. Sad!

The food here was super delicious…all sauces and meals are made in-house and fresh. GF items are listed on the menu. Not a lot of GF specific items…but because everything is made fresh and in-house, they are able to re-make items to accommodate allergies. I had the Grilled chicken BLT…and they were able to make it GF…they even have GF bread for sandwhiches. They do not have a dedicated fryer…so fried foods are out. I would definately go back.

I had the shrimp and grits which was excellent. They have menu items marked gf, which are limited, and they also carry gluten free bread. But the shrimp and grits were probably the best I’ve had. Not spicy but full of flavor, made fresh to order. Yummy.

Lovely place, but they don’t have a gluten free menu. In fact, they have only a few items that are GF. We didn’t stay to eat.
