Celiac and Food Allergies Beware! Heard great things so went for hubby's 50th bday tonight. Immediately notified waitress of Celiac, & birthday; etc. She said, "We feed lots of Celiacs". I explained that I have severe reaction if exposed and she assured me; "no problem". Ordered guacamole appetizer w/ soft GF Blue Corn Tortillas and would spoon some over to hubby and he could have regular tortillas. (Her suggestion) It was strange, my blue corn tortillas came out first and she sat them in front of me. Mmmm. Then a male server brings out guacamole on plate with regular tortillas all over the plate and on top of the spoon ready to serve to me. He saw the look on my face and the blue corn tortillas in front of me and he knew immediately that it was not good, I told him I had Celiac and could not eat it. He took it back...I am worried now. Finally, plain guacamole comes out but I am too scared to eat it. Told him I can't eat it. Waitress comes over and I explain that I can't eat it, too worried about cross contamination. She apologized and said; "I did not know it could not be on the same plate". I said, "at the very least your kitchen should know this." She said; "I told them to change gloves". Changing gloves is no help if they don't know that you cant put GF items on same plate w/ Gluten items! My lettuce tacos come out and I am crying, because I can't eat it. I can't take a chance and miss 7-10 days of work. Another staff member comes over and I explain. Customers around us are noticing, but I am not making a scene..being very quiet about it all. Nobody who worked there was overly concerned. No manager to table, no chef out to talk with me. I watched my husband eat, got the check and they did not even take anything off the check. All we got was a half apology from uninformed server. I had to pay for the food that I could not eat. Asked for carry out container so my hubby could take it home. No manager, no concern. This is why I own my own GF Allergy Free Restaurant!
