I have been to village deli several times since my diagnosis. I have a gluten sensitivity but the staff do not understand celiac. The first time I went after diagnosis, I was not given gluten free bread despite requesting and emphasizing why I needed gluten free bread. They did correct the mistake but the food item I had ordered was not gluten free (black bean burger) and no one on staff noticed when I asked for the food item and if it had gluten in it. I had made sure to ask several times, the chef came out and said it was gluten free. I only found this out when a family member went to get me a black bean burger and the staff on that day JUST HAPPENED to know that the black bean burger had gluten in it! The fries are all fried in gluten contaminated oil. If you have no gluten issues the food is wonderful. If you have celiac, educate the staff as they do not know if their food has gluten in it. It was an incredibly frustrating experience both times. I will not be returning.
