Spoke with the cafe this morning, they use a soy spray for all their baking pans so every item that's baked in the store is covered in soy. So many people who need gf also have other allergies there are so many options for baking spray why use a common allergen?

Comment from business owner Hello Rachel, After reading your recent review of the Wheat’s End Café on Find Me Gluten Free, we feel that is very important to clarify our use of pan spray for our baked items. You say “they use a soy spray for all their baking pans so every item that’s baked in the store is covered in soy” Firstly, the pan spray we use is not a “soy spray” – it is a non-GMO canola oil spray. It is Kirkland Signature brand from Costco - www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature-Canola-Oil-Cooking-Spray-17-oz Secondly, there is no soy protein in the spray – it contains a very minor amount of non-GMO soy lecithin. Most soy sensitive individuals can tolerate soy lecithin. This article gives a fairly clear explanation of the differences - https://farrp.unl.edu/soy-lecithin As you know, the whole premise of our café is to cater to folks with gluten intolerances. We also go out of our way to avoid other allergens as we do realize that celiac sufferers often have multiple intolerances. The café staff member you spoke to was correctly informing you of the presence of an allergen, however minimal, and we regret that there has obviously been a miscommunication. For the few with an extreme soy intolerance, our bakery will, with advance notice, custom bake using a different spray for a small upcharge. Pan sprays without soy lecithin are quite expensive, but we are actually in the process of tracking down an economical alternative. Please feel free to contact our bakery if you would like to consider placing a custom order. Sincerely, The Wheat’s End Team

This place is very close to my house, and it's a great place to pick up muffins, cookies, cupcakes/mini cakes, and other breakfast options. The menu is amazing and all gluten free and delicious, definitely stop in some time!

This is an amazing 100% dedicated gluten-free facility. I ate donuts! The staff was excellent, especially Taylor! The popover and gravy entree was perfection. Amazing, flawless hollandaise with the short ribs. Perfect way to end a trip to Chicago.

The restaurant is 100% dedicated gluten free. There are signs that say not outside food so they can ensure that it stays 100% GF. I ordered the cheddar pretzel bread and the cinnamon roll and both were SO GOOD and I didn't get sick!!! My sister (not celiac or gluten free) ordered an omelette and said it was the best she's ever had. My mom just ordered some of the potatoes and they were amazing. If you are in Chicago this place is an absolute must visit restaurant!!!

I had a wonderful experience when I went to Wheat's End a few weeks ago when I was in Chicago. Everything was gluten free. The food and drinks were great. The atmosphere and the service was outstanding.

This place was absolutely incredible! 100% GF café. Very nice atmosphere and food was the best GF I have ever had. The Nutella pancakes were out of this world, the pancake itself was the best GF pancake I have ever had. Everything was so fresh. The cheesy pretzel baguette was also delicious, and a nice option for those of us with celiac who don't usually get to enjoy things like this. 10/10 recommend. It was worth the uber there/back and the satisfaction of knowing there is no cross-contamination is wonderful.

Amazing GF pancakes! I had a fill stack of blueberry and my wife got a half stack of Nutella. And it's not on the menu, but they have some delicious crispy bacon in a cup to help prevent going overboard on carbs.

So good. We ordered pumpkin donut (yum) , cinnamon bun , fritters with hummus (amazing) and pretzel with cheese. The pretzel bread with cheese was just ok. But overall very nice place.

Such a gem in the city although not downtown. Luckily we had a car so we easily got there. Not sure how long it would take /cost from downtown with public transport. My GF daughter was so happy she could eat anything she wanted. My dairy free daughter was happy to get a safe meal as well. The whole family was satisfied with their meals. We will definitely recommend and return.

Surprised how busy it was in the morning! The seasoned potatoes w sweet potatoes were delish along w the GF apple cinnamon roll. Not a fan of the popover. It's basically a hollowed out stale roll. I guess that's what popovers are though. But the honey butter is tasty. I had a couple other allergens which they checked before placing order. Husband is not GF and liked the prosciutto Benedict. Did not get sick, looking forward to coming back.

Wow. Just wow. This place was like a dream come true for me. We had French toast, Nutella pancakes, spicy potatoes, and a popover (the popover is a MUST). I was elated!! Soo good for breakfast or brunch! If felt so good to be "normal" for a meal :)

If you are GF and traveling to Chicago, you must make this a destination! The entire restaurant is GF. My family was so excited that we ordered almost everything on the menu-- they had to bring it out in shifts! 😜It was so nice to order bagels, popovers, muffins, pancakes, waffles... all without worry. The food is delicious, too!

Excellent food. 100% gluten free. I had the French toast and nitrate-free bacon. My husband had the blueberry Belgian waffle and a scrambled egg. I preferred his waffle to my French toast but both were good. We both had a hot chocolate as well.

Best Gluten Free dessert place I have been able to find! The staff is very friendly and they have an ingredients book for you to review all of their items which is so helpful! I also cannot have dairy, honey and maple sugar so I have beyond thankful for this book. I am so happy I was able to find donuts and cinnamon rolls here that are gluten and dairy free. Plus, they are DELICIOUS!! Thank you!

This place is amazing for brunch! It was so refreshing to be able to order anything from an entire menu! Our table of four tried the yogurt, Belgian waffle, eggs Benedict, cinnamon roll, bacon and a breakfast sandwich. We were all pleased with our meals. How nice to not have to worry about cross contamination for a change. I would highly recommend Wheat's End to those avoiding gluten and their friends too. We need more all gluten free restaurants in this world! Bravo!👏🤘

I have Celiac disease and I live in AR. We don't have a lot of GF restaurant options. This is why I am in absolute heaven when we come to Chicago! We have eaten breakfast here the past 3 mornings. I can't imagine there being a better place in Chicago to eat breakfast. Plus this is a dedicated GF facility. We've had the sausage & gravy popover with scrambled eggs, cinnamon rolls, French toast, pancakes! We loved it all! So thankful for this amazing place! 💗

Very cute place! was super excited to have a completely gluten free restaurant/café. My husband and I tried their doughnuts and had a cup of coffee. The doughnuts were more like a bland, warm cupcake that was in the shape of a doughnut...definitely not the texture or taste we were hoping for.

Amazing! Can't say enough about how great this GF food was. My wife is also Dairy Free, and there were loads of options for her as well. the service is very friendly. Our son has no allergies and had the GF Pancakes and said they were some of the best he ever had. GF Bagel is unreal. This is a must go. Only wish there was one of these in Australia!!
