Love this place! 100% gluten free! The Food is always delicious. The cinnamon rolls are my absolute favorite. Great place to get some delicious food and not worry about the after effects of possible cross contamination.

This spot is dedicated gluten free, so you can order with ease! I have had a wide variety of their items and enjoyed them all without any sickness. Their bagels are delicious, my favorite menu item is their spicy friend chicken. You can get it with waffles or order a side of fries. The sauce is sweet and a little spicy and delicious. I haven’t had fried chicken like this since being diagnosed. Highly recommend. They only do carry-out, you cannot dine in, but it’s the perfect spot to stop in and grab some gluten free goodies.

I got the Turkey Cranberry sandwich, a popover, and some sourdough. Delicious! Everything was tasty and my non celiac friends enjoyed their meals as well. A must stop when visiting Chicago.

This place is amazing!!! It is 100% gluten free and it's delicious! I got a mini quiche, mini pumpkin pie, lentil soup and bagels also a matcha tea latte. All of it was great!

The owners are also so helpful and kind. When they found out that I never had a popover, they gave me one! It was excellent!! I was visiting from out of town and will visit the next time I'm in Chicago. If I lived here I would eat here all the time.

It came very fast, but I got sick almost immediately. I don’t know if it was cross-contact, straight gluten, or whether it was raw. I got the cauliflower wings and BLT. I didn’t even get to the BLT because I got so sick after 3 cauliflower wings.

Owner Response

We are sorry that you got sick! However, please consider carefully before attributing the illness to food from Wheat’s End. We would question the assumption that your illness was due to gluten contamination or unsafe food preparation methods at Wheat’s End for the following reasons: 1. We allow no ingredients or products with gluten into the restaurant. 2. Testing in the past showed that the amount of gluten found in our offerings was far below the 20ppm standard for gluten-free foods, and was in fact under 5ppm.  3. Customers with celiac disease who are highly sensitive to gluten came in both the day before and the day after and have not reported any reactions. 4. Sensitive individuals can have untoward reactions to many ingredients or foodstuffs that have nothing to do with gluten.  5. We follow scrupulous cleaning and sanitation practices and always meet or exceed government sanitation standards. The health and safety of our customers is our top priority.  Also, in terms of a food-borne illness such a rapid reaction (within a few minutes?) would be quite unusual, and we have no other recent reports of illness or adverse reactions from customers. Toxin-mediated illness such as staphylococcal food poisoning can have a relatively short onset of only a few hours. Symptoms typically include vomiting as a predominant feature and may or may not include diarrhea. However, most other etiologies (mainly bacterial and viral) have an incubation period of at least 24h and up to over a week, so you may want to consider everything you ate for the last 48-72h or more as a potential culprit. I would encourage you to visit the cdc website (cdc.gov) for further information. https://www.cdc.gov/food-safety/signs-symptoms/index.html

Overall it was a good but not great experience. The atmosphere was charming and the service was good. We got three cafe drinks and two baked goods (so I am not really reviewing the “restaurant food” but just the “cafe food”). The match green tea was very good, but chai latte lacked flavor. The chocolate donut was disappointing because it was really just chocolate cake in the shape of a donut. The cinnamon roll was very good. As a whole this is a great place to go for guaranteed safe food, but I have had better quality before.

Take out was ok. I got the popover with dairy free butter, cinnamon roll, and donut. Popover is good with the butter. Cinnamon roll was tough and lacked cinnamon flavor. The donut is just a light cake covered in frosting. I’d get the popover and donut again, but not the cinnamon roll.

Very good! 100% gluten free and tons of dairy free options as well. They’re very knowledgeable with other allergens, too. I got a bagel and a couple of pastries and they were good. A ton of options for breakfast and lunch. It’s definitely on the pricier side so I didn’t get much, but I enjoyed what I got! There’s no seating inside so carry out/delivery only.

Love!!!! Do yourself a favor and get the popover — it’s glorious and unbelievably airy. I have no clue how they can do that with a gluten-free pastry, but they need to share their secret with the rest of the US pastry bakers for the greater good! I also really enjoyed the gyro, great sauce and super good fries too. I’d skip the cinnamon roll, though. You can get better elsewhere, and you should save room for the popover here instead. Heard up though that there’s no seating, only takeout.

Fun fact — it’s not too far from Wrigley, and they’ll let you bring your food in there (just no drinks).

Absolutely great all around! Wonderful staff who explained everything to me and made me feel comfortable there during my first visit. Everything is gluten free, crazy! Also, they sell their gluten free bread in the freezer so you can buy it in bulk if you want to! I got a cinnamon roll and it was warm with icing. On top of it not having gluten, it also did not have dairy! Will definitely be returning. Did not have any flare up’s or anything!

Great spot for a quick, dedicated gluten-free breakfast, though note that you’ll need to carry-out / eat elsewhere. The home fries and omelet were incredible; the lox bagel, a little less so — not bad! Just not totally what a bagel is (too thin, not the fluffy yet meaty interior of a true bagel), and the lox wasn’t as flavorful as I’d hope, especially given how expensive it was. That said, I’m glad that something like Wheat’s End exists.

Dedicated kitchen!

Delicious sandwiches, sweet potato fries and buffalo cauliflower wings. Really good fried chicken!

Carry out and delivery only. Call 30 min ahead to order. Bread better than most I’ve had. My non gf family said “wow that’s good, the bread might have been the best part of my sandwich” They do have a fridge with loafs so I am excited to try the sourdough loaf! They have bagels, English muffins and lots of sweets. Would eat here again! Staff very friendly.

A cute little spot that has breakfast, lunch, fresh bakery items and frozen items for sale. I had the donuts which were hands down the best GF donuts I've ever had. Warm, moist, didn't crumble, full of flavor, and had a great cake consistency. There were some dairy free options, but I wish there were more. The important thing to remember is there are no places to eat in the restaurant - it is all takeout.

We were so excited to visit a dedicated gf cafe but ended up disappointed. I had a panini. Instead of crusty bread, it was on a gf sandwich bun. The flavors of the sandwich weren’t balanced either. My boyfriend had the spicy fried chicken sandwich which was tasty. The sweet potato fries were ok. The chocolate donut was fluffy and cakey, like it wasn’t fried. Altogether it was $65 and nothing too special. 🫤 Maybe other items on the menu are better. 🤷🏻‍♀

My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich and I got the gyro. Both absolutely delicious!! A little on the pricey side, for two lemonades, our meals, and a cookie it was about $60 for a quick brunch. My friends got a bagel and sandwich and were not as impressed but they also don’t eat gluten free regularly. Definitely worth a stop in.

The place overall inside was cute and chic and the staff was friendly. The downside for me was the food. I got the frozen Challah bread, a cinnamon roll, and biscuits with sausage gravy. The sausage gravy… out of this world it’s good but the baked goods were not so good. The cinnamon roll tasted like straight yeast and the texture was off while the bread also gave yeast. The biscuits were not baked properly either and, you guessed it, tasted like yeast. If you go here I’d suggest the coffee, tea, and food that doesn’t involve baked goods. Gluten free doesn’t mean disgusting. I’ve had MANY gluten free baked goods from stores and restaurants which were DELICIOUS and you couldn’t even tell it was gluten free— this place does not match up. Would never go again.
