99 % of the menu is gluten free. Only the focaccia bread and the potatoes which have malt powder sprinkled on them contain gluten. Waiter accidentally brought out the potatoes with malt, but noticed his mistake as he was setting it down and brought me another (extra) bowl of potatoes (while the gluten eating members of my family got to eat the rest). Food was fantastic. Highly recommend.
I rarely give 5 stars, but I kid you not — this was the best meal I’ve ever had. We just happened to have one of the owners as our waitress who shared she has to be gluten free as well. Everything on their menu (yes, even the calamari!) except the focaccia is gluten free. They have safety down. The thing that really impressed me was the quality of their food. Everything is locally and sustainably caught. I’ve had GF calamari, and I don’t think anything could top this. I ordered the Sole, and it was divine. It was creamy and went perfectly with the puréed celery root, tomatoes, and mushrooms. We each ordered a drink and it was also just fantastic. Whatever you order, you can’t go wrong. If you visit, this is where you need to go!
We dined at Wild Fish for lunch. A good majority of their menu is gluten free. The two servers there were so helpful offering safe suggestions and in asking the chef what things on the menu would be safe for me, as I must eat both gluten free and dairy free. I felt well taken care of. My husband and I both loved the fish and chips, which came with a small side of pickled cabbage, and for me,a little container of their dairy free homemade Mayo. I enjoyed a side of olive oil and garlic steamed kale. My GFDF dessert was chocolate mousse!
Had a scrumptious dinner tonight at Wild Fish. I have Celiac and was thrilled to be able to enjoy the calamari appetizer. Great sauce and delicious flavors. Highly recommended. Also shared the Bouillabaisse that was gluten free with shrimp, mussels, clams, white fish in a delicious saffron base. We got to substitute the focaccia for a gluten free popover.
I was thrilled to find out that everything on the menu was gluten free, with the exception of focaccia bread. They did offer a GF popover bread that was delicious! I got the sole, my hubby got the whole fish and for dessert we shared the sticky toffee pudding!!! Everything was so fresh and I’m still dreaming about that dessert!!!
The food was delicious, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable about Celiac requirements. Many of the items were gluten-free and identified on the menu. The bread was gluten free too! Most of the dishes were fish and shellfish (no surprise) but there were vegetarian and vegan options as well. Nice atmosphere too.
Wonderful place for seafood, I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re deciding where to eat in Monterey, this should be it. Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free, and everything we had was delicious. The staff are so friendly and helped to make this one of the best dining experiences we’ve had on our holiday.
The calamari was genuinely the best I’ve ever had (and that’s pre- and post- coeliac diagnosis).
The fish is cooked to perfection. The bouillabaisse was a highlight, and came with in house baked gluten free bread so delicious that I didn’t believe it was GF.
All of the desserts are gluten free.
The owners were on serving duty which was a lovely touch - they were so friendly and it was great to chat to them about the dishes, their journey, and to meet a fellow Brit in California!
Nearly everything is gluten free! Even the desserts and the calamari (so much really fresh really good calamari). This have great food and the fact that the fryer is gluten free and they use rice flour and gluten free soy sauce is just kind of amazing…and the sticky toffee pudding!
UPDATE: Recent reviews prompted me to ask questions. There are new servers that didn't realize that the flour used is GF. Avoid obvious bread (which is made at another location) and you should be safe. As always, ask questions and be comfortable asking for a manager to self advocate and clarify.
We still enjoy the food here and can recommend this restaurant to others, whether GF by necessity or not. I have been able to eat here without issue and I am quite sensitive.
This was our second time here. We came for dinner last summer. Nearly all the desserts then were gluten free. Yesterday we went for lunch here during a visit to the Monterey Aquarium. It is only a one mile walk or drive from the aquarium. The fryer is safe because there is no gluten fried in it. We had celiac safe calamari and fish and chips. No dessert because we were stuffed. The food is very good and homemade, even the ketchup. Lemonade is made to order. There is a nice wine list too and outside seating.
We came for the gluten free fish and chips and it was amazing! So delicious. I understand that’s it’s only served at lunchtime. I didn’t see GF next to many items on the lunch menu but they can most likely make them gf. We didn’t ask about anything other than the gf fish & chips.
Left without eating. Waitress said everything is fried in the SAME fryer, So it’s not actually GF. Disappointing. Surprising in this day and age that restaurants don’t actually know what gluten free means and don’t take it seriously. The waitress’ lack of knowledge made me uncomfortable.
Fantastic experience. Wait staff was very familiar with what on menu had gluten (very little), what is gluten free (almost everything), etc. They have GF bread and their fried foods are battered with a tapioca based batter. We had the fried calamari - best fried seafood I have had in the 16 years since diagnosis. Unfortunately we were there for dinner but waitress informed me that at lunch they have GF fish and chips. Everything we ordered was fantastic.
