I asked about a gf menu and the hostess looked at me like I was from Mars then told me everything was marked on the menu. It wasn’t. I asked the waitress about gf options. She said she didn’t know anything about it. I ordered eggs and fruit and kept my fingers crossed.
I ate here and did not get sick. They do not have a gluten free menu, and items are not marked as gf on menu. The hostess was misinformed when I called to ask about gf options. However, my server was very knowledgeable and claimed he personally watched my food being prepared. I could eat the eggs and hash browns, but not much else. I would eat here again, but use caution and make sure the server is clear about the dietary restriction.
Used to be a favorite. They no longer have a gluten free menu. The main menu has very limited items suited for a celiac diet. Basically steak or salmon. Wait staff did the best they were able to do with the corporate change in attitude.
My non-GF family decided where to go for breakfast, so I didn’t get a chance to look the menu over for GF friendly items. I appreciate how they indicate the brand of meat products they use. It gave me a chance to research GF status. According to Daily’s and Zenner’s websites, bacon and chicken apple sausage are GF. I always feel that omelettes are the best orders in a non-dedicated kitchen.
I mentioned my gluten allergy/Celiac disease to the servers and my concerns for cross contamination. They seemed knowledgeable and suggested fruit to substitute their biscuit side.
In town for the weekend, my family visited twice since our first visit was impressive. Everyone really enjoyed their meals AND I walked away safe.
First trip: Willamette Valley Omelette Second trip: Grilled Vegetable Skillet and I added the chicken sausage
Both were absolutely delicious!
Inform the staff, emphasizing your allergy and asking for clean surfaces, glove changes, new utensils, etc. They will do their best to accommodate.
Update: They no longer have a gluten free menu, but can assist in some options that are GF.
We went here for breakfast and were told the “stuff on the menu without gluten in it is gluten free.” This resulted in me ordering something with gluten in it and getting partway through before i figured it out.
I can only speak for their breakfasts because that’s all I’ve ever ordered here, but I have been going here gluten-free for years and never had a reaction. Let waitstaff know you’re gluten free. You can substitute a fruit cup for the bread. Very welcoming and attentive staff. It is regular American breakfast fare. The eggs, hashbrowns and bacon etc. are all done perfectly & the fruit cup is actually so fresh I eat it, unlike many other places. They will tell you the hashbrowns are gluten free, and I think they must separate them on the griddle because they have always been fine with me. Large servings. I prefer the lighter side dishes on the menu and it’s still a lot, plus about 20% cheaper. I love Elmer’s!
The staff was super great! The GF menu is kinda small and “outdated” to use our server’s description, so she told me that they’d be able to work out something if there was anything other that I wanted. Once I specified celiac they made sure and double checked everything g was GF, making sure my food didn’t touch anything else! The food was a little on the greasy side, but that’s to be expected with diner food. I thought it was great!
Not gluten free and staff was clueless.
Waiter looked at us like we were stupid for asking about a gluten free menu
There is no GF menu. They cook everything on one grill. They said they would wipe it off but it was awkward. It’s late and I took a chance. The food tasted good but I’m starting to feel the tell tale signs of being glutened.
There is no dedicated GF menu. When I asked what the options were, I just got a vague answer about not picking something with obvious wheat and that I'd need to remove things from some dishes. The waitress was very nice, but the food was only okay, once I found something to eat.
Knowledgeable staff. Shocked that I could eat at a diner style restaurant for breakfast! Awesome hash browns! They understood cross contamination. Yum!
We went based on other reviews in other locations. This was a horrible place for GF. Nothing was available true GF. They hardly had anything that you could even "make" other than standard eggs and such.
While I did not ask if they had a GF menu, I spoke with my waitress, who seemed knowledgeable when I said I needed GF. She made suggestions to help round out my breakfast meal so that I didn't get "shorted" by the lack of the biscuit. (Would have really LOVED the biscuit, though!) I only ate breakfast here, so I can't attest to other GF options. But I may eat here at a different time of the day to see how they do. The crab omelette was excellent and filling. I highly recommend Elmers for breakfast, which is served all day.
I was told on the phone that they had gluten free options. When i arrived the waitress was super confused and offered me eggs or potatoes. I would not recommend if you have celiac.
I was there a couple of weeks ago, quick seating due to it being empty is the best thing I can say about my visit. 1st I ordered Strawberry Lemonade, the waitress brought regular lemonade and acted like it was a bother to get the correct drink. My Mom and I ordered the same omelet, mine without onions and my Mom's with crispy hashbrowns. I'm Celiac but told her I had a flour allergy, made sure no batter in the eggs, and subbing fruit for the toast. I thought she understood. When delivered saw that the crispy hashbrowns were on my plate, asked for an extra plate to switch them, instead she huffed and took them away to have the kitchen reverse them. After she walked away we realized the omelets were backwards, we took care of it our selves but in the meantime my Mom's biscuit had been sitting on my Omelet. I was afraid of her reaction if asked again and took the risk. I didnt get my regular reaction but was sick the following week.
I will add they were the saddest looking omelets and won't go back.
Our server Lawrence made me feel confident that he would communicate our needs to the kitchen. There is a dietary needs menu with more than a few options. Elmer's can't guarantee gf but we felt like they cared. Both my celiac sons were happy.
They have a great menu and keep the bread separate. They have a good selection and a great atmosphere.
Wasn't extremely impressed... Kinda greasy and stale at the same time... But at least they had gluten free options.
dedicated gf menu. great food. knowledgeable staff!
Knowledgeable staff and friendly service made me comfortable that they were doing a good job helping me maintain gluten free diet!
Have a gluten free menu on request. Very helpful, friendly staff.
Food is very good. This is a great place to be able to enjoy a conversation over a meal. They offer a GF worksheet to know what is GF on their menu. Great breakfast.
