They have a separate gluten free menu which is nice.

We have been going here for years and years a couple of times a month. Recently, I found out the hard way that the queso recipe had changed but no public notice has been given. The staff also had no idea. It has always been GF and was even listed on the GF menu, which is also no longer available. I was bedridden the following day with very severe symptoms. Terrible :(

NO gluten free menu. Very unfriendly and unwilling to help or even try. Sat and watched my family eat. 100% do not recommend.

The plano location has removed there GF menu and now only offers chips and salsa as GF items. Very disappointing to only get chips when out with friends

This is no longer the same El Fenix. The company changed ownership a few years ago. THe menu has changed and they offer NO gluten free options!

I'm new to this app right now, but used it in finding this place to eat. When we were seated I asked for the gf menu and the waiter said as he walked away, "we don't have one!" So now I can't trust this app. I ended up ordering my go to "safer choice" in Mexican restaurants, nachos. I'm not celiac, but if I were I probably would've left and ate elsewhere.

I asked for a gluten-free menu and was told there was none. The host said recipes change often, but that corn chips, corn tortillas, and black beans were OK. I ate only black beans and corn chips last night, and I am still having stomach cramps and upset digestion this morning. Do not recommend.

Service was lacking. My kids got the combo fajitas they were hot and they liked them I got the cheese enchilada plate they were just ok because they were Luke warm like they made my plate and let it get cold waiting on the others. Then time to leave it took more than 25 min just to check out.

The employees didn’t know much about any gluten-free options. I most likely will not be going back because the employees acted like my questions were an inconvenience for them.

Asked for a gluten free menu multiple times to no prevail. After reading other reviews decided to just stick to water.
No
Dont even bother...chips are not gluten free...neither is most of the food.
No
The chips and salsa are gluten free and delicious! It's so great to be able to eat fresh chips at a restaurant! They had a limited gluten free menu, but the food was good! They were careful about cross contamination too! I will definitely go again!
Yes
I’m not sure if I can give 0 stars but I would if I could. The waiter had no idea what gluten was or who to ask. I pulled over the manager who was able to print off a gluten free menu but it still seemed suspect as there were some things on there I would be surprised would be gluten free. I ended up just canceling my order and having a margarita.
No
Just no! I should have known, but it was on the way and got a good review here. BTW It's located inside a casino. I ordered beef enchiladas with beans, apparently the rice wasn't GF. It looked terrible the enchiladas were barely warm tortillas dipped in a bland red sauce they were filled with ground beef which I thought was strange and that was it. No cheese, no seasoning. Just two helping of bland beans. So, it's a no! I have no idea if I'll get sick tomorrow, hope not. I barely touched it.
They have a gluten free menu. I ordered the brisket nachos and didn't have any problems. The chips ARE gluten free. I will go back.
Overall a good experience. Yes they have a gf menu with a few enchiladas, puffed tacos and crispy beef tacos on it. Also some of the sauces and the chips and salsa are gf. Like the previous reviewer I got the brisket enchiladas and charro beans. Luckily I read his review because there was also RICE on my plate which is NOT gluten free. So they took my plate and made me a new meal. The manager brought my new food out and assured me that they didn't just give me the first enchiladas but made me new ones. She was very kind and knowledgeable about celiac and I recommend this restaurant for anyone who is gluten free.
Yes
The chips are made in another location and are shipped in. Totally safe. Several options including dessert. Food is good!
So excited to eat at El Fenix. About 20 GF menu options. The staff was educated and careful. Waited to review to make sure I didn't get sick! Yay for GF Tex Mex!!!
Yes
Gluten free chips and basic meat and brisket are gluten free. I had brisket enchiladas and they were great. Charro beans and guacamole as a side since the rice was not listed to be gluten free. Manager was great and helpful. Be smart and you can get a good Mexican food fix.
