Gluten-Free at Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard

Rita's has >10 flavors of Italian ice on any given day. Most are gluten free and they have an allergy listing if they can't answer on the spot. It's younger workers so while most know what we're asking, there may be a person who is less knowledgeable. We did get one of those folks on our second trip to this location over our vacation. We confirmed upon ordering what we needed and then again when she handed us our ices. When she wavered at delivery, we asked for the manager. He confirmed the ices we ordered were gluten free (and the custard for our dairy-eating family members) and that each ice has its own scoop. I imagine there is some amount of opportunity for cross-contamination, but we have eaten at Rita's numerous times, in numerous locations, without incident for our super-sensitive and symptomatic Celiac family member.

Excellent service! some of the custard flavors are gluten free (i got vanilla and chocolate twist) and I specified to the woman working there that the cones may have touched the soft serve dispenser so she washed her hands and then spent a few minutes cleaning the machine for me and I felt very safe. great job and understanding of celiac needs

I asked for the allergen list and they were quickly able to provide it for me. Showed me that most of their custard flavors and Italian ice flavors are gluten free! Note that the do have cones in the building and the scoop is reused in the products that are scooped out rather than the pulled custard.

It is a bit confusing at first on what options are gluten free but the girl looked over the allergy menu and doubled checked the items that we wanted to ensure it was gluten-free.

The staff nor the manager could read the allergy chart. They were unable to tell us if anything was GF. Manager admitted to not knowing how to read chart. Sadly we left aggravated and disappointed.

If you like creamy custard with loads of sugar, then this is your place! Fun combos to choose from. But next time I’ll make sure I ask for 1/2 the amount of custard mix & topping! TOOOO SWEET! I had the apple pie custard concrete (pie pieces ARE NOT GF, filling is GF) **ask staff to wipe down the mixing machine before preparing your treat to prevent Xcontam**

gluten free italian ice’s with dedicated scoopers and vanilla and chocolate custard from machine gf as well. very yummy. some of the other custards are gf but chance of cross contamination

One of my favorite places to go on the island! Custard and ice are GF outside of cake and baked good flavors. Their website is marked too. Love this place!!

Lots of options of course, staff seemed a little bothered and impatient with our presence. She had her phone and makeup on the counter. She went back to doing makeup when we were done ordering. Price is about $5 per person.

Rita’s has gluten free custard in many flavors (5 when I was there) as well as shaved ice which combined together can make numerous combinations!!! What a great treat after a long day at the beach!!!

The custard flavors are all gluten free. There are some gluten free ice options, just be sure to ask questions about cross contamination between flavors w cookies, etc.

Staff very knowledgeable about gluten free. Many ices are gluten free (avoid the cream and cookie based ones). Custard is gluten free.

Most all the ice flavors are gluten free unless it's obvious like cookie dough . Custard too

Server didn't know what gluten was, but was able to provide an allergen sheet that showed most of the ice flavors had no wheat. She was agreeable to get a new scoop.
